English version

Contest LOH #313: What if our life doesn't turn out as we imagined?

Hello beautiful Ladies of Hive community, I hope this new month brings you great joys and lovely surprises, I wish you all the best.

As every Monday, I am ready to participate in the community's activity, with questions that always make us reflect on our lives.

Let's begin...

Do you think society expects women to be strong all the time, even when they need support?

What a question, I think that nowadays we have more support spaces where they tell us that resting, taking a moment for ourselves, or breaking the routine are things we should do.

Where I live, I think there is now more empathy toward women, because it has been seen that we can't be strong all the time, not so much because we can't but because sometimes we need time to vent.

But if we talk about mothers or women heads of households, I think the matter changes. I started to think, what happens if a terrible problem occurs that affects the whole family? Sometimes, the dad or the mom has to stay strong and try to face it.

This is not necessarily because she decides to, but because she feels she must support her family, children, husband, siblings, parents. I have seen many cases like this, and sometimes it can happen to us without even thinking about it.

It is interesting how the role of women has changed so much throughout history, for better and for worse. For example, women were once seen as fragile beings, who perhaps couldn't do as many things as men and were expected to dedicate themselves solely to taking care of the house and children.

But over time, and due to the situations women go through, that changed, because they can't just wait for their prince charming to come and save them; they took on that role themselves and saved themselves.

Because of all that, many women no longer take the time to be themselves, to rest, to be fragile, to feel and show vulnerability. It's sad, but I think we can learn from that; it's okay to be strong, but when we feel like we're at our limit or the cup is about to overflow, we should know when to stop and regain our strength.

All of that reminded me of a scene from the movie Shrek 4, when Fiona, realizing that no prince would come to rescue her, decided to take matters into her own hands and save herself, because she might have waited there forever.

We see that Fiona's behavior changed drastically; I feel like she went to the other extreme, becoming someone who doesn't trust anyone, is always on alert, seems a bit grumpy, and wants to do everything by herself.

I'm not saying it's wrong, but you need to know how to find a balance. As I was saying, we must recognize our strengths and weaknesses and know which things we can do on our own and which require some kind of help.

Something important, don't care about what society says, if you feel bad, cry, scream, vent, but then shine again like you always have. You are a great woman and you are achieving wonderful things. If you fall, get back up, and if you need rest, take it, but never stop.

Can a woman be happy with her life even if it doesn't look like she once imagined?

I think this often happens when we end up idealizing things too much, perhaps because of things we were told as children, in movies, books, stories, and so on. It's not wrong to have that idea that life is rosy and beautiful, but we must know how to balance it; not everything will turn out as we expect.

I have seen many women who have dreamed big and achieved all their goals, but I have also met women who dreamed that way and couldn't get everything they wanted. Despite that, they are happy with their lives.

I'm not saying we should settle, but if something doesn't go as you wish, it doesn't mean you should get sad and feel like you never get what you want. I think it's an opportunity to work harder, and if it doesn't happen, you can also change your strategy, and if that doesn't work either, you can slightly modify your goal and target.

Another thought comes to mind regarding this, sometimes they say that you will never find perfection or that perfection lies in imperfection. I believe it can be a combination of both things, what makes you happy, where you feel comfortable, where you can be yourself, that's your perfect place.

I am talking about family, partners, work, studies, and everything we can do in life. So if you think you can't reach or achieve what you once imagined, you're still in time, don't despair, you might need to change the strategy, the path, or the goal.

Just remember that whatever you imagine should make you happy.
