LOH Contest #308: The voices that inhabit my head
Hello beautiful ladies, I hope you have started your week in the best way. Today we are going to answer these two questions from LOH's weekly activity.
Without further ado, let's begin...
🎤 Do you have an inner critic? What is your favorite phrase? When does he/she speak the loudest? And if it were a person, what would it be like? How would you describe its personality?
I think this question has many different answers or there are many things being asked that I will try to answer based on what I understand.
Personally, I do have a little voice that might tell me things when I do something wrong or that might also prevent me from doing certain things, perhaps out of fear or embarrassment. It also tends to criticize me when I make a small mistake, like it says: "You already know that and you still make mistakes?" Or things like that, hehe.
I don't know if that voice would have a phrase, but yes, when it encourages me to step out of my comfort zone: "Do it, even if it goes wrong, but do it," or like "let's try our luck and, if not, at least we tried."
I think that when he encourages me, he speaks louder to give me the push to keep going, and when he has to criticize me, he does it at a normal or loud volume because he scolds me for what I did.
In these hypothetical cases, I think they would be two people or perhaps one with two personalities. One would resemble my mom because she was somewhat strict with me: a serious, critical, angry lady, with the typical pose of crossed arms and shaking her head as if she disagreed with everything.
And the other would be a cheerful, extroverted, daring, and playful young woman, who wants to step out of her comfort zone, meet and try new things, learn a lot, and live great experiences.
It's interesting to give a more human form to these voices or little people that we could interpret as our inner voice. It reminds me of the movie about emotions, where each one had their role within the person and each was important according to the occasion.
I hope I understood the questions correctly, hehe.
💤 What does true rest (downtime) look like for you? How can you give yourself more without feeling guilty?
For me, true rest would be, on one hand, taking a nap, getting my 8 hours of sleep, and relaxing.
But, at the same time, that rest time is also for doing what I like the most or what I feel like doing: walking, listening to music, drawing, playing, etc.
Depending on how tired I am and whether it's more physical or mental, I would vary my rest options. If it's physical fatigue, the ideal for me would be to be in my bed, take a shower, feel fresh, and relax.
In the case of more emotional or mental fatigue, I think the best thing would be to do activities I enjoy, spend time with my loved ones, eat something nice, and that kind of thing.
If we talk about giving myself more rest, I think the ideal would be to take these breaks after having completed my tasks or duties for the day. For example, having finished all my chores, cleaning, washing, helping in the kitchen, working, and so on.
After having accomplished everything I had planned and resting, I think it's one of the best feelings there can be. You feel useful, like you can handle everything, and eager for the next day to begin.
Now, in the case of having had a tough day and your body and mind are screaming for a break, it is also like a reward to get home and rest, have some time for yourself, and hope that the next day will be better.
I think in those cases is when you feel that those breaks are worth it and it's not something to feel guilty about. That shouldn't happen, because there can be days of little activity and that's okay, there's nothing wrong with it.
I think we should take advantage of those days to do something we won't be able to do when work or duties are overwhelming. You always have to pay attention to the needs of your body; it knows when it needs to rest and when it can work at full capacity.
It's just a matter of listening to it and, obviously, always trying to take these breaks when you have a demanding job. Because it will eventually affect your health.
With this, I conclude. Thank you very much for reading, and see you in the next post.
