ENGLISH VERSION

My review of The Princess and the Frog (2009)

Hello Scrobble Life community, today I bring you this animated movie of a classic tale where a princess must kiss a frog for it to turn into a handsome prince. But this particular story has a completely different twist.

So, without further ado, let the movie roll.

🎬 A little context

Tiana was a girl who came from a very humble family; her dad worked in a factory and her mom was a seamstress. She always used to accompany her to her clients' houses, and it was there that she became very good friends with Charlotte, a girl who lived with her father in a large mansion.

Tiana's father dreamed of opening his own restaurant, and that dream was also passed on to Tiana as she grew older. As she grew up and became an adult, she continued with that dream and therefore worked very hard to save up for the first payment to buy the place where the restaurant would be.

Both her mother and her friends were worried because she was so obsessed with getting money for that place, to the point that she had forgotten to go out with her friends, socialize, find a boyfriend, and enjoy life.

There were also other people who discouraged her or didn't believe she could achieve that goal. Until one day her friend Charlotte was organizing a ball in honor of the visit of Prince Naveen of Maldonia.

Tiana told her that if she wanted to win over a man, it had to be through food. That gave Charlotte a great idea, so she paid her friend a large sum of money to cook her most famous pastry and win over this prince.

Tiana finally managed to reach her goal and was very happy, so she immediately went to close the deal with the people from the place she wanted to buy.

On the day of the ball, although very late, Prince Naveen showed up, and he danced all nite with Charlotte. While the guests enjoyed the party, Tiana ran into the owners of the venue she wanted to buy, and they coldly and mockingly told her that a better offer had come in for the sale of the venue and that they would no longer sell it to Tiana.

She, very upset and sad, didn't know what to do, and in a tug-of-war with these owners, she ended up falling and getting her entire dress dirty. In that moment, Charlotte helped her and lent her a beautiful dress, while telling her that she was going all out to marry the prince.

She left her alone, and then Tiana remembered that, when she was little, her dad used to tell her that if she wanted something, she should ask the evening star with all her might. She, desperate about what was happening, did it and asked this star.

But then a frog appeared and asked for a kiss, offering a reward in return. She got so scared that she started throwing everything she found in her path. This frog introduced himself as Prince Naveen and told her that he had been cursed by Doctor Facilier.

So he told her that if she kissed him and he returned to his normal form, he would grant her any wish. Tiana thought about it for a moment and decided to kiss him to get the money for her restaurant. But, instead of turning him into a human, it was she who ended up turning into a frog, as it turned out she wasn't a true princess.

Do you think she was able to solve the frog problem and thus get her restaurant, or do you think everything went wrong?

If you want to know how this movie continues, I invite you to watch it, and if you've already seen it, keep reading.

TRAILER:

⚠ ALERT: From now on, there will be many spoilers, so you have been warned.

♥ What I liked the most

This is a beautiful story about a young woman who worked so hard that she forgot to live. Tiana was so engrossed in getting that spot for her restaurant that it seemed like she only lived to work, eat, and sleep, and then repeat.

Something I like about her is that she is very dreamy, but not only does she think about it, she does everything possible to make those dreams come true. But she took it to the extreme.

Among the scenes I liked the most, there's the part when they are girls listening to the story about the princess and the frog, and when they hear that the princess kisses the frog, Tiana feels a lot of disgust and says she would never do it. But then we see that, when she grew up and perhaps with no other option, she had to do it, haha.

Something very beautiful about this movie is the friendship she managed to form with Charlotte. Although they came from different social strata, that didn't seem important to either of them. They helped each other.

When she realized that Tiana was in love with Naveen, she decided to kiss him and not force him to marry her. She knew it was her greatest wish, but she preferred to see her friend happy.

If we continue with the story, another scene that I liked a lot is when Tiana and Naveen, turned into frogs, meet the crocodile Louis. He is kind and even a lover of jazz music; he also offers to help them, although deep down he does it because he wanted to become human, hehe.

Then they meet the firefly Ray, who was very kind and also helped them reach the swamp witch, Mama Odie.

Something beautiful is that Ray was in love with a star that he believed was a firefly, but no one wanted to tell him the truth to avoid hurting his feelings.

I really liked the scenes where both Tiana and Naveen fell in love. Everything seemed to indicate that they didn't like each other; they were so different that it seemed they wouldn't find any common ground.

But when they both opened up to each other, they got to know and understand each other better. By the time they were with Mama Odie, Naveen realized what he felt for Tiana, but she didn't yet.

In the end, both tried to do what they thought was right to help the other: Naveen, marrying Charlotte to help Tiana with her restaurant, and Tiana, helping Naveen become a prince again and marry her friend.

In the end, they both realized that they felt love for each other, and they ended up accepting their reality as frogs: they decided to get married despite everything, as the only thing that mattered to them was that they had each other.

☁ Some parts that made me think

Sometimes we can forget to look at our horizon while pursuing goals or objectives. We become blind to something we want, but forget everything else.

It's fine to work for our dreams, but if that means killing yourself working or doing things you don't like, you should reconsider if it's the right path. To achieve our dreams, we must also take care of ourselves both physically and mentally; let's not forget that if we don't have that, it will be difficult to work toward fulfilling them.

Our loved ones, friends, partners, children, and others are also there. I believe we need to find a balance that allows us to fulfilll our dreams without forgetting that we are also flesh-and-blood people with certain needs.

If we analyze what the movie tells us, wanting and needing are not the same: sometimes we want things just for pleasure or tantrums, but we really don't need them. We must take this into account, as it can apply to both small things and our life goals.

I hope you liked this movie and I hope you leave in the comments which scene you liked the most.

See you in the next post!
