Hola comunidad, hoy les traigo una peli que va enfocada más para chicas, porque seguramente varias quisieron tener una edad adulta para hacer lo que no pudieron hacer de niñas, pero que creen a veces no todo es color de rosa, hay muchos matices jeje.
Quiero compartirles esta linda película que la debo haber visto más de 5 veces, sola, con amigas, familia y con quien sea que le haya atrapado la trama tanto como a mí.

🎬 Un poco de contexto
Todo empieza con Jenna Rink, una adolescente que parecía detestar su vida escolar porque no era popular y parecía ser invisible para todos, menos para su mejor amigo Matt Flamhaff que era el único que la comprendía al 100%.
Lo que más quería era crecer pronto y ser una adulta con un buen trabajo, dinero y ser hermosa. Pero todo cambiará para ella cuando cumpla sus 13 años y realmente desee algo que no podría ser del todo bonito.
Jenna organiza una fiesta para tratar de ser algo popular porque una de sus amigas, Lucy Wyman, había prometido llevar a muchos invitados entre ellos, al chico que le gustaba, pero a cambio ella debía hacerle sus tareas.
Durante la fiesta, deciden jugar un juego donde debían encerrarse en parejas para hacer lo que quisieran dentro del amario, pero por malentendidos y engaños todos los invitados se van de la fiesta y Jenna termina sola en el lugar.
Ella culpa de todo a su amigo Matt y con todo el enojo que tenía en ese momento, desea con todas sus fuerzas tener 30 años. Abre sus ojos y lo que ve es su deseo hecho realidad, todo parecía perfecto: trabajo, dinero, fama y hasta un amor perfecto.
Pero no todo resultará así porque todo eso se había construido sobre una maraña de mentiras y malas acciones que terminará destrozando la vida de Jenna y los de su alrededor.

💭 Lo que me hizo pensar
Esta es sin duda una película que toda una generación, o quizá más, de chicas ha tenido que ver, hasta como tarea o deber esencial de toda chica jeje.
Esta es una de mis películas favoritas, si bien parece una historia algo simple creo que te ayuda a reflexionar bastante, en especial a los adolescentes, sobre la importancia de no saltarse las diferentes etapas de la vida.
Jenna quería a toda costa ser una mujer, no estaba contenta ni con su cuerpo ni con su forma de ser. Por eso en su cumpleaños trataba de aparentar ser una adulta, maquillándose la cara y poniéndose relleno en el busto.
Si nos ponemos a pensar, según Jenna esto era ser adulta, tener dinero, tener novio, maquillarse, vestirse bien, todas cosas que creo que eran bastante banales y que eran más la fachada que lo que llevaba por adentro. Pero tuvo que experimentar por ella misma lo bueno y malo de ser adulto para darse cuenta de que la solución no estaba en un número.
Después de todo lo que había pasado con la revista de moda, Jenna se enteró de que era ella quien mandaba los artículos a la otra revista porque su plan era cambiarse a esa empresa, pero con un cargo aún mayor.
Muy decepcionada de ella misma, se da cuenta de que sí había obtenido el trabajo de sus sueños, pero para conseguirlo hizo cosas muy feas para lograrlo, despedir personas, culpar a otros por sus acciones, meterse con hombres casados, hablar mal de sus amigas y hasta alejarse de su familia.
Esta parte me pareció muy triste porque seguramente ella pensó que no sería capaz de hacer todo eso, pero quizá la ambición le hizo cambiar de opinión.
Ahora, si pasamos a la relación que tenía con Matt, podemos ver que Jenna había dejado de hablarle sólo por lo que le hizo en su fiesta. Terminó alejándose desde ese entonces y además se había convertido en la chica más popular de la escuela, la que tenía al chico más guapo y que ganaba la corona como reina del baile de graduación.
Es interesante que en EE. UU (y quizá varios países más) las chicas piensen que ser y tener todo eso es sinónimo de clase, estatus, poder y más. Jenna básicamente era como una don nadie y diría hasta nerd porque era muy inteligente y aplicada en la escuela, creo que eso era mucho más importante que todo lo anterior.
Pero con la nueva propuesta que tenía para la revista, había contactado de nuevo a Matt y al trabajar juntos creo que volvieron a sentirse unidos, comprendidos y queridos. Jenna se dio cuenta que estaba enamorada de él, porque la trataba bien, era amable, la entendía y además habían pasado gran parte de su vida siendo amigos.
Si bien fue tarde cuando se dio cuenta de todo eso, logró comprender muchas cosas, no sirve de nada fingir ser alguien popular y dejar atrás todos sus valores, gustos y forma de ser para encajar en la sociedad, porque si no iba a perder lo que más amaba.
También se dio cuenta que las amistades que vienen por esa falsa identidad pueden no ser realmente tus amigos, sino que quieren algo a cambio y, para conseguirlo, pueden hasta destrozarte porque solo les importan ellos mismos y no tú.
En este tipo de viaje o sueño que vivió Jenna, se dio cuenta de varias mentiras que posiblemente vimos y se nos ha dicho durante nuestra vida, pero para su suerte ella pudo volver a su presente con ese conocimiento y tomar un camino distinto.
Esta es una película tan divertida y reflexiva que creo que por eso les gusta a varias jóvenes y adolescentes, a pesar de ya ser antigua, el mensaje aún sigue siendo válido para estos tiempos.
❤️ Lo que más me gustó
Una de las escenas más geniales fue cuando armaron la fiesta de trabajo y Jenna, muy emocionada, se alista para ir porque iba a ser su primera fiesta hasta tarde con bebidas y baile.
Pero resulta que, al llegar, la gente estaba muy aburrida, así que ella tomó el control de la música y puso “Thriller” y empezó a hacer la coreografía con Matt. Los invitados los ven y se animan a bailar y así logra salvar la fiesta. Hermosa escena jeje.
También cuando Jenna, aún con el pensamiento de una niña, se interesa por un niño en un restaurante y al ir a hablarle le confiesa que le llamó la atención, pero ahí su amiga Lucy la detiene porque a su edad eso sería interpretado como acoso o algo peor.
Otra parte hermosa es cuando trabaja con Matt y empiezan a recrear momentos bonitos a través de fotos para que la revista tuviera un nuevo estilo y tomara en cuenta a mujeres normales, no a modelos o famosas que podrían hacer sentir inalcanzables a las lectoras. Ahí también Jenna se va enamorando cada vez más de Matt.
Por otra parte, la escena donde se reúne de nuevo con sus padres es una de las más bonitas. Básicamente, Jenna había cortado cualquier comunicación con ellos, pero al sentirse triste, asustada y sin saber qué hacer decide visitarlos. Ahí ella pregunta a su mamá si cambiaría algo de su pasado y ella le dice que nada, porque sin esos errores o problemas que pasó no habría podido aprender y ser la persona que ahora es.
Esta es una gran lección que siempre la he tenido en cuenta para mi actuar, a veces tenemos mucho miedo de intentar las cosas, de elegir tal o cual opción, pero la idea es no quedarnos parados sin hacer nada, sino elegirlo y aprender de eso, solo así creceremos como personas.
Ahora la última escena que, si bien me parece muy triste, cuando Matt se estaba por casar y le dice a Jenna que aún la amaba, casi me hace llorar, porque él siempre había tenido ese sentimiento hacia ella, pero ella sólo lo veía como un amigo. Además, al volver a conocer a la Jenna de 30 años resurgió ese sentimiento y fue triste que con sus acciones él haya vuelto a ser lastimado.
Pero luego se torna feliz cuando Jenna desea regresar a su edad actual y lo logra, sale del armario y besa a Matt, además encara a Lucy y le dice todas sus verdades. Para que luego, cuando ella tiene 30 años, terminen casados, viviendo felices por siempre.
No me canso de decir que es una bonita película, espero les haya gustado y si no la vieron vayan rápido a hacerlo.

I want to share this lovely movie with you. I must have watched it more than five times—alone, with friends, with family, and with anyone else who got as hooked on the story as I did.

Everything begins with Jenna Rink, a teenager who seemed to hate her school life because she wasn’t popular and felt invisible to everyone except her best friend, Matt Flamhaff, who was the only person who understood her completely.
More than anything, she wanted to grow up quickly and become an adult with a good job, money, and beauty. But everything would change for her when she turned 13 and made a wish that wouldn’t turn out to be quite as wonderful as she imagined.
Jenna throws a party in an attempt to become somewhat popular because one of her friends, Lucy Wyman, had promised to bring a lot of guests—including the boy Jenna liked—but in exchange, Jenna had to do her homework.
During the party, they decide to play a game where they have to lock themselves in pairs inside the closet and do whatever they want. But because of misunderstandings and deception, all the guests leave the party, and Jenna ends up alone.

💭 What It Made Me Think About
This is definitely a movie that an entire generation, or perhaps more than one, of girls has had to watch—almost like an essential assignment or rite of passage for every girl, hehe.
This is one of my favorite movies. Although it may seem like a somewhat simple story, I think it gives you a lot to reflect on, especially teenagers, about the importance of not skipping the different stages of life.
Jenna desperately wanted to be a woman. She wasn’t happy with either her body or her personality. That’s why, on her birthday, she tried to look like an adult by putting on makeup and using padding to make her chest look bigger.
If we think about it, according to Jenna, being an adult meant having money, having a boyfriend, wearing makeup, and dressing well—all things that I think were rather superficial and more about appearances than what was inside. But she had to experience the good and bad sides of adulthood herself to realize that the answer wasn’t in a number.
After everything that had happened with the fashion magazine, Jenna discovered that she had been the one sending the articles to the other magazine because her plan was to move to that company, but in an even higher position.
Very disappointed in herself, she realizes that she did get her dream job, but she did some terrible things to achieve it: firing people, blaming others for her actions, getting involved with married men, speaking badly about her friends, and even distancing herself from her family.
I found this part very sad because she surely thought she wouldn't be capable of doing all that, but perhaps ambition made her change her mind.
Now, if we look at her relationship with Matt, we can see that Jenna stopped talking to him simply because of what happened at her party. She had kept her distance ever since, and she had also become the most popular girl at school—the one who had the most handsome boy and won the crown as prom queen.
It’s interesting that in the U.S. (and perhaps in several other countries), girls may think that being and having all those things is synonymous with class, status, power, and more. Jenna was basically a nobody, and I’d even say a nerd, because she was very intelligent and hardworking at school. I think that was much more important than everything mentioned above.
But with the new proposal she had for the magazine, she contacted Matt again, and by working together I think they began to feel close, understood, and loved once again. Jenna realized that she was in love with him because he treated her well, was kind, understood her, and they had spent much of their lives as friends.
Although she realized all of this late, she managed to understand a great deal: there is no point in pretending to be popular and leaving behind one's values, tastes, and true self just to fit into society—because doing so would mean losing what she loved most.
She also realized that friendships formed around that false identity may not be genuine friendships at all. Those people may want something in return, and to get it, they may even destroy you because they only care about themselves, not you.
Through this kind of journey or dream that Jenna experienced, she realized several lies that we may have seen or been told throughout our lives. Luckily for her, she was able to return to her present with that knowledge and choose a different path.
This is such a fun and thought-provoking movie, and I think that’s why so many young women and teenagers like it. Even though it’s already an old movie, its message is still relevant today.
❤️ What I Liked Most
One of the coolest scenes was when they organized the work party and Jenna, very excited, got ready to go because it was going to be her first late-night party with drinks and dancing.
But when she arrives, everyone is incredibly bored, so she takes control of the music, plays “Thriller,” and starts doing the choreography with Matt. The guests watch them, get excited, and start dancing, and that’s how she saves the party. Such a great scene, hehe.
Another moment is when Jenna, still thinking like a child, becomes interested in a boy at a restaurant. When she goes over to talk to him, she admits that she finds him attractive, but her friend Lucy stops her because, at Jenna’s age, that could be interpreted as harassment or something even worse.
Another beautiful part is when she works with Matt and they begin recreating beautiful moments through photographs so that the magazine can have a new style and feature ordinary women rather than models or celebrities who might make readers feel that they are unattainable. This is also when Jenna falls more and more in love with Matt.
On the other hand, the scene where she reunites with her parents is one of the most beautiful. Basically, Jenna had cut off all communication with them, but when she feels sad, scared, and unsure of what to do, she decides to visit them. There, she asks her mother if she would change anything about her past, and her mother says no, because without those mistakes and problems, she wouldn’t have been able to learn and become the person she is today.
This is a great lesson that I have always kept in mind in my own life. Sometimes we are very afraid to try things or choose one option over another, but the idea is not to stand still and do nothing. Instead, we should make a choice and learn from it. That is the only way we can grow as people.
Now, the final scene, which I find very sad, is when Matt is about to get married and tells Jenna that he still loves her. It almost made me cry because he had always had those feelings for her, but she only saw him as a friend. Also, when he met the 30-year-old Jenna again, those feelings resurfaced, and it was sad that her actions ended up hurting him once again.
But then it becomes happy when Jenna wishes to return to her current age and succeeds. She comes out of the closet and kisses Matt, and she also confronts Lucy and tells her exactly what she thinks. Then, when Jenna is 30, they end up married and living happily ever after.
