Consequently, unless a monster looks particularly hideous or menacing, they simply aren't scared—especially the older kids—making the job much more difficult for the monsters.
That is why most strive to learn from the best—such as Sulley, a top performer aided by his assistant Mike Wazowski; together, they are renowned for generating the highest volume of screams. However, as in any workplace, envy is rife and brings complications, leading to the discovery of a plot to capture children and cruelly extract their screams—a method that stands in stark contrast to the duo's own approach of gathering screams without harming the kids. This situation brings them into contact with a little girl named Boo—the first child to ever enter the city—sparking chaos among the monsters. Although Mike and Sulley initially consider abandoning her, they ultimately seek to protect her and get her back home through her door; the task is far from simple, however, as others want to keep her hidden to prevent the exposure of the horrific scheme they are planning.
All of this helps us understand that a monster is not someone with a terrifying appearance, but rather someone capable of causing harm simply to get the job done—at any cost and without regard for others' opinions. Likewise, while it is natural to fear the unknown, we must give ourselves the chance to get to know and appreciate things, because the person you least expect might just become a good friend and protector.

Una breve reseña de la historia, se basa en una ciudad de monstruos, que tienen que salir a trabajar como cualquier persona para sustentar a sus familias, y para mantener la energía en la ciudad lo tienen que hacer causando sustos a los humanos, sobre todo a niños, para lograr que con sus gritos obtener energía para su ciudad, parece a simple vista un trabajo sencillo para un monstruo, pero realmente no es así, se preparan con muchas cosas para poder causar realmente miedo, sobre todo porque en la actualidad los niños piensan que los monstruos no existen o son imaginaciones de ellos mismos, por lo que ya al ver uno al menos que sea muy feo o con cara de muy malo, no les causa para nada de miedo, al menos no para los grandes, por lo que para ellos su trabajo se ha vuelto más complicado.
Es por ello que la mayoría busca aprender de los mejores, como Sulley uno de los mejores trabajadores con ayuda de su asistente Mike Wazowski, juntos son reconocidos por lograr mayor cantidad de gritos, aunque como en todo trabajo la envidia esta por doquier y trae complicaciones con ellos, hasta el punto de descubrir que quieren tomar a niños y extraer los gritos de una forma cruel, lo cual aunque ellos busquen sus gritos no de la manera en que les haga daño, esto le permite conocer a una niña que la llaman Boo, quien es la primera niña en entrar a la ciudad lo que comienza a traer un caos para todos los monstruos, aunque para Mike y Sulley lo mejor sería abandonarla, buscan la forma de protegerla y tratar de regresar a su hogar a través de su puerta, aunque no es tan simple porque la quieren para que nadie descubra el horror que pretenden hacer.
Todo esto, nos ayuda a entender que monstruos no es aquel que tiene un físico aterrador, es quien es capaz de hacer daño por el simple hecho de cumplir con su trabajo cueste lo que cueste sin considerar la opinión de los demás, así mismo la idea de tener miedo a algo que desconoces es normal, pero hay que darse la oportunidad de conocer y apreciar, porque el que menos crees puede volverse tu buen amigo y protector.
