Saber escuchar para poder llevar una buena conversación/Knowing how to listen in order to hold a good conversation [ESP/ENG]

ENGLISH

Hello dear friends at @holos.lotus, greetings and have a wonderful day; this time, taking a look at the Post Following up on @emiliorios, I’m here to share my perspective on the matter.

REVIEW (2).jpg Design in CANVA

Speaking of difficult conversations, I’ve always thought that in those moments—when a conversation becomes more complicated than usual, or at least when the topic at hand can lead to different points of view—a single poorly chosen word or phrase might cause discomfort or a problem, it’s important to know what to do or how to navigate the situation so it doesn’t become more complicated than it seems—especially since the goal is always for what you say to be positive and helpful: words that nurture rather than destroy, that contribute in one way or another. To achieve that, you need to stay calm and know how to handle these kinds of conversations.

image

At the very least, listening carefully helps a lot—especially when it comes to analyzing, step by step, the words that might be used in the process, as well as the criticism. It’s important to realize that, one way or another, criticism will arise, and while it should ideally be constructive, when it isn’t, that doesn’t mean we should get defensive. On the contrary, we should take it as an opportunity for self-reflection on what we need to improve and turn it into a positive—just as our friend @emiliorios mentions, empathy is very important because it allows us to understand the other person’s point of view a little better, to comprehend and reflect more deeply on what they’re trying to convey without offending them or thinking they’re exaggerating or anything like that; on the contrary, it brings us closer to the situation they’re experiencing.

In the past, at least, I used to avoid these kinds of conversations where the topic becomes difficult to handle because I simply didn’t know how to react or preferred not to listen, kind of like when someone is about to tell you the truth and you’d rather turn a blind eye—even though you know it’s true, you’d rather hide and shut your ears to it. That’s not how it should be, because no matter how complicated a conversation gets, the point is to listen attentively, accept what they’re trying to tell us as much as possible, maintain respect, and to realize that, in the end, it’s a way to learn from the experience and, at the same time, to convey what you know.

Communication is the most important aspect of any relationship for maintaining harmony. Even conversations that become difficult are ultimately necessary for growth, for learning, and for realizing that, in some way, they can be taken to a level of understanding that benefits both parties—that by listening, understanding, and finding the right words, they can become a conversation that is beneficial for everyone.

Saludos
