Well, after an intense week obsessing over the telenovela I shared in my previous posts, I've fallen back into the clutches of a series that has basically become a cult classic for me. I discovered it about four years ago, I think, and since then I've lost count of how many times I've watched it. It has both the best humor and the best plot I've ever seen in a sitcom; moreover, the presence of many great actors throughout its six seasons also contributes the quality one needs to see on TV.
Bueno, luego de una intensa semana obsesionada con la telenovela que compartí en mis anteriores posts, he vuelto a caer en las garras de una serie que se ha vuelto básicamente un culto para mí. La descubrí hace como 4 años, creo, y desde aquellas fechas hasta el día de hoy he perdido la cuenta de cuántas veces la he visto, pues esta tiene tanto el humor como la mejor trama que he visto en una sitcom; por otro lado, la presencia de muchos grandes actores a lo largo de sus 6 temporadas aporta también la calidad que uno necesita ver en TV.
2 Broke Girls is a hit Warner Bros. series that shows us the daily lives of Max Black and Caroline Channing. They meet at the coffee shop where Max works, when Caroline is looking for a job to start over. Max is one of those apathetic girls who doesn't care much about the people around her, but after each episode, from the very beginning, we see how they learn to get along and develop what I think is the most beautiful friendship in a comedy series. And we can't forget to mention the wonderful supporting cast.
2 Broke Girls es una exitosa serie de Warner que nos muestra la rutina diaria de Max Black y Caroline Channing. Estas se conocen en la cafetería en donde Max trabaja, cuando Caroline se encontraba buscando trabajo para poder comenzar de cero. Max es una de esas chicas apáticas a las que no les importan mucho las personas a su alrededor, pero tras cada episodio y desde el inicio vemos cómo estas se aprenden a sobrellevar y a tener lo que me parece la más bonita amistad en una serie de comedia. Pero no hay que dejar de mencionar el maravilloso elenco que aquí hace presencia.
This series, despite its title suggesting only two main characters, actually has several. Primarily, there's Kat Dennings as Max Black and Beth Behrs as Caroline Channing. Then there's Jonathan Kite as Oleg Golishevsky, the restaurant's cook; Matthew Moy as Han Lee, the restaurant's owner; and Garrett Morris as Earl Washington, the receptionist and cashier. And last but certainly not least, there's Jennifer Coolidge as Sophie Kachinsky, the girls' neighbor and arguably the most exotic character in the series.

The series essentially follows these girls' constant struggle against poverty. With Caroline's intelligence and Max's hidden talents, they begin their journey toward a better future and becoming their own bosses, but more importantly, making their dreams a reality while earning money. This leads me to mention that they always face an obstacle that keeps them poor until the end, but it's not all tragic. They learn from their own struggles and value and appreciate those around them, forging a friendship that, while unconventional, feels incredibly genuine.
La serie básicamente sigue la lucha constante de estas chicas contra la pobreza; con la inteligencia de Caroline y con los talentos ocultos de Max, comienzan su camino por un mejor futuro y por ser sus propias jefas, pero aún más importante, volver sus sueños realidad mientras facturan con ellos. Lo que me lleva a mencionar que estas siempre tendrán un inconveniente que las mantiene hasta el final como personas pobres, pero no todo es trágico; estas aprenden de ellas mismas y valoran y aprecian a los de sus alrededores, una amistad que, a pesar de no ser convencional, se siente altamente palpable.
And finally, what stands out about this series is its humor, as it features a very distinctive dark comedy. Its characters are satirical and ridiculed, targeting race, nationality, and highly taboo topics, which made it unique. Despite its resounding success, production ended after several seasons. Although the story focused on two girls struggling financially, the series wasn't exactly cheap; its high cost led to its cancellation because profits weren't substantial, resulting in a finale that felt somewhat improvised, but fortunately, it maintained the essence of the series overall. The series is currently available on two platforms, HBO Max and Prime Video. Y por último, lo que destaca de esta serie es su humor, pues esta tiene una comedia negra muy característica; sus personajes son críticas y ridiculizaciones tanto de razas, nacionalidades y temas que son muy altamente tabú, lo que la volvió única en su clase. Sin importar que esta tuvo un éxito rotundo, a lo largo de sus temporadas su producción finalizó, porque a pesar de que esta historia mostraba a dos chicas en quiebra, esta serie no era absolutamente barata; su gran costo la llevó a su fin porque las ganancias no eran muy notorias, quedando con un final que se sintió algo improvisado, pero que por fortuna sostuvo la esencia de la serie en general.
