Greetings to the whole Hive movies and tv shows fans community, I hope you are having a great time. As a Gamer and movie fan I have noticed many times that video games adaptations to the small or big screen, has not been well received by professional critics or fans. Many believe this is because those in charge of these adaptations, do not understand or do not know how to translate the source of material into a different format. However in recent years things have begun to change, as we have seen adaptations of video games that have managed to achieve a positive reception from audiences. So in today`s post i'm going to review the Castlevania animated series.
Saludos a toda la comunidad cinéfila de Hive espero que la estén pasando muy bien, como Gamer he notado que muchas veces las adaptaciones de videojuegos a la pantalla grande o chica, no han sido bien recibidas por la crítica especializada o por los fans, generalmente se dice que la mala recepción se debe a que los encargados de estas adaptaciones, no entienden o no saben cómo trasladar el material de origen al otro formato, sin embargo durante los últimos años las cosas han comenzado a cambiar, ya que se han visto adaptaciones de videojuegos que si han logrado captar positivamente la atención de muchas personas, en el caso de hoy les hablare sobre la serie animada Castlevania de Netflix, la cual está basada en una serie de videojuegos de Konami.

Castlevania is an animated series produced by Adi Shankar, Kevin Kolde and Fred Seibert. It was created and written by Warren Ellis and directed by Sam Deats. It is based on the Konami video game Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, although it also takes some plot elements from other installments of Castlevania gaming franchise. Its voice cast includes Richard Armitage, James Callis, Graham McTavish, Tony Amendola, Matt Frewer, Emily Swallow and Alejandra Reynoso, among others.

Synopsis/Sinopsis
The story revolves around the vampire hunter Trevor Belmont, who must fulfill the legacy of his family to face Dracula, the legendary and most powerful vampire whom after a terrible incident decides to declare war against the people of Wallachia, invoking his great army of creatures of the night. Fortunately Trevor will not be alone, as he will cross paths with powerful allies.
La historia gira en torno al cazador de vampiros Trevor Belmont, quien debe cumplir con el legado de su familia para enfrentarse a Dracula, el legendario y más poderosos vampiro que tras un terrible incidente decide declarar la guerra en contra del pueblo de Valaquia, invocando a su gran ejército de criaturas de la noche. My opinion/Mi opinión
From the beginning Castlevania let very clear that it is a series for adults, since it has quite bloody scenes, foul language and sexual content. One aspect to highlight is that the quality of its animation is quite good although it does not reach the level of current of anime shows such as Attack on titan, Jujutsu Kaisen or Demon Slayer. With that been said, now i'm going to discus the plot of each one of the four Castlevania seasons and at the end, I will give my overall verdict of the show, it is worth mentioning that I will not dive into deep plot details, to not spoil the series for those who have not watch it yet.
Desde un principio Castlevania deja muy en claro que es una serie para adultos ya que tiene escenas bastante sangrientas, leguaje soez y contenido sexual. Un aspecto a destacar es que la calidad de su animación es bastante buena aunque no alanza el nivel de los mejores animes actuales. A continuación daré mi opinión de las cuatro temporadas que la conforman y al final daré mi valoración general, cabe mencionar que no entrare minuciosamente en detalles de la trama, para no estropearle la serie a quienes aun no la hayan visto.

The first season of Castlevania consists of four episodes. Here we see the introduction of the its three main protagonists, Trevor Belmont (the vampire hunter), Sypha Belnades (a powerful sorcerer) and the Dhampir (half human half vampire) Alucard. Each of them has their own ideals and very well defined personalities . It should be noted that in storyline terms and in the look of the characters this first round of episodes is quite faithful to the video game. Another interesting aspect is that it wastes almost no time on irrelevant issues and precisely establishes the threat our heroes must face. It is also worth mentioning in terms of plot it takes certain creative liberties, but fortunately these are to give a deeper and more coherent development to the story, since playing a video game is not the same as watching a movie or a Tv series. Perhaps the only aspect I did not liked so much about this season, was its short length and that it ends very abruptly. This disappointed me the first time I watch it, because I had to wait more than a year, to see how it its story continues.
La primera temporada de Castlevania consta de cuatro episodios, en ella se nos presentan a sus tres protagonistas principales Trevor, Sypha y Alucard. Cada uno de ellos cuenta con ideales propios y personalidades diferentes muy bien definidas. Cabe destacar que tanto en historia como en la apariencia de los personajes esta primera ronda de episodios es bastante fiel al videojuego. Otro aspecto interesante es que casi no pierde tiempo en temas irrelevantes y establece de forma precisa el conflicto al que nuestros héroes deben enfrentarse. También vale la pena mencionar que en cuanto a la trama se toma ciertas libertades creativas, pero afortunadamente son para darle un desarrollo más profundo y coherente a la historia, ya que no es lo mismo jugar a un videojuego que ver una película o una serie. Quizá el único aspecto que no me gusto tanto de esta temporada, fue su corta duración y que termina de manera muy abrupta, esto me decepciono la primera vez que la vi porque tuve que esperar más de un año para ver como continuaba su interesante historia.

The second season consists of eight episodes and continues the story immediately where the first season left off. New characters are now integrated into the story and the development of this universe is further deepened. The most notable characters to me of this second round of episodes are Dracula, the Devil Forgemaster Isaac, the vampiress Carmilla and Alucard. It is worth mentioning that at this point the series takes a remarkable quality leap regarding characters development and plot evolution, showing many conflicts, unexpected alliances and very emotional and reflexive moments (episode 7 is simply outstanding). The final stretch has spectacular battles and clashes of ideals quite intense. Definitely the second season concludes in an remarkable way the plot started in season 1 and at the same time, it leaves some interesting details to explore in the future.
La segunda temporada consta de ocho episodios y continua la historia inmediatamente donde la dejo la primera temporada. Ahora se integran nuevos personajes al elenco y se profundiza más en el desarrollo de este universo. Los personajes más destacables para mí de esta segunda ronda de episodios son Dracula, el forjador de demonios Isaac, la vampiresa Carmilla y el dhampir (mitad humano mitad vampiro) Alucard. Cabe mencionar que en este punto la serie da un salto de calidad notable en cuanto al desarrollo de sus personajes y evolución de la trama, brindando muchos conflictos como tracciones, alianzas inesperadas, además de momentos emocionalmente profundos y reflexivos (el episodio 7 es simplemente impresionante). El tramo final tiene batallas espectaculares y choques de ideales bastante intensos. Definitivamente la segunda temporada concluye de forma sobresaliente la trama iniciada en la primera temporada y al mismo tiempo deja algunos detalles interesantes a explorar en el futuro.
The Devil Forgemaster Isaac/El forjador de demonios Isaac.
The third season consists of ten episodes and begins one month after the second season's ending. It is worth mentioning that this time the story is far away from the plot of the video games. These episodes start off interestingly, but soon after, the narrative rhythm starts to decay and stagnate. Most of the main characters decide to deviate from their main objectives, to take care of things that in the end are barely relevant (it feels like a filler season the majority of the time). On the other hand, there is a character whose naivety borderlines the absurd and becomes very questionable from a logical perspective, especially considering the terrible humiliations and mistreatment to which is submitted. Also Alucard's story this time is very uninteresting and could have been told in just a couple of episodes. It is worth mentioning also this season has a couple of shocking sexual scenes, that were completely forced and out of place. Just to be clear I have nothing against sexual content in tv shows or movies but what happened in here is too violent and extreme. Despite all this, there are things I did find quite interesting during these episodes like the fascinating journey of Isaac, the mysterious character Saint Germain, Lenore's philosophy and the possible return of an important figure.
La tercera temporada consta de diez episodios e inicia un mes después del desenlace de la segunda temporada, cabe mencionar que esta vez la historia se aleja muchísimo de la trama de los videojuegos. Estos episodios arrancan de forma interesante, sin embargo al poco tiempo él ritmo narrativo comienza a decaer hasta estancarse. Los protagonistas deciden desviarse de sus objetivos principales, para hacerse cargo de cosas que al final no son muy relevantes (es como si fuese una historia de relleno). Por otro lado hay un personaje cuya ingenuidad roza lo absurdo e incluso sus acciones llegan a ser muy cuestionables a nivel lógico, más teniendo en cuenta la terrible humillación y los maltratos a los que le someten. Por su parte al personaje de Alucard se le da una historia muy poco interesante que pudo haber sido contada en un par de episodios como mucho. Algo que me sorprendió es que tiene un par de escenas sexuales que fueron metidas de manera forzada y totalmente fuera de contexto, ósea no tengo nada en contra de las escenas sexuales pero lo que pasa en estas es algo demasiado extremo. Aun así hay coas que si si me parecieron bastante interesantes de estos episodios como el fascinante viaje de Isaac, el misterioso personaje Saint Germain, la enigmática Vampiresa Lenore y la revelación del posible regreso de una figura muy importante dentro de este universo.

Finally we have the fourth season which consists of ten episodes, here the story continues immediately after the events of the end of the third season. It is worth noting that this time the plot does focus on issues that had been left aside previously and at the same time, it establish a new and terrible threat. It can be said that most of the main events and characters, have a good development. Although at times there are certain monologues that are too long, this is a recurring problem throughout almost the whole series that I had forgotten to mention before. I personally like a lot when visual language is used to communicate something, so when there is an excessive amount of dialogue in a Tv show or a movie, I find it a bit annoying. Another detail is that in the fourth season many antagonists are only there to be cannon fodder during battles, so these characters are practically irrelevant to the overall story, I think it would have been much better to integrate them into the story, with a more meaningful purpose beyond being just mere references to the games. However all season 4 fights look cool and the story concludes in a reasonable satisfying way.

Conclusion/Conclusión
Overall, as a fan of Konami games, movies and tv shows. I find Castlevania as an acceptable adaptation but as a series itself I think it is moderately good, I do not think it is an outstanding work due to its narrative rhythm issues and somehow underdeveloped characters (Alucard, Saint Germain and Hector just to mention a few of them). However, this show has the great advantage of not needing to play any of the games to understand and enjoy it. It will most likely be enjoyed more by those who know nothing about Castlevania games. It is also worth mentioning that a sequel show is currently in the works, so I'm excited for it.
En definitiva, como fan del cine y de los videojuegos de Konami, Castlevania de Netflix me parece una adaptación aceptable pero como serie en sí pienso que es moderadamente buena, no me parece una obra sobresaliente debido a sus problemas de su ritmo narrativo y que varios de sus personajes están algo desaprovechados (Alucard, Saint Germain y Hector por mencionar algunos). Aun así tiene la gran ventaja de que no hay necesidad de haber jugado a ningún juego de la saga de Konami, para poder entenderla y disfrutarla. Es una serie que muy probablemente disfruten más quienes no conozcan nada de los juegos de Castlevania. Cabe mencionar que una serie secuela está en proceso de producción actualmente, así que por mi parte tengo la esperanza de que sea mejor que esta.
