Hola mis queridos amigos en esta hermosa tarde de viernes. ¡Espero que estén muy bien! Hoy les traigo una película que me parece que todo hiver debería ver, y se trata del film ¿Dónde estás Bernadette?, estrenado en 2019.

Pues si estamos aquí compartiendo diferente contenido, hay algo que es seguro: ¡nos gusta crear! Y esta película se trata justamente de eso.

Llegué a esta historia porque en realidad no sabía qué ver y se me pasó Cate Blanchett por la cabeza. Así que dije “mmm…a ver qué hay de ella”. Y así, vi una portada que me hizo pensar en una película relajada, pero cuando leí que se trataba de una comedia dramática decidí verla sin darle más vueltas al asunto.

Mejor imposible. Era la película perfecta para mí ese día.

Hello my dear friends on this beautiful Friday afternoon, I hope you are very well! Today I bring you a movie that I think every hiver should see, and it's about the film Where’d you go, Bernadette?, released in 2019.

For if we are here sharing different content, there is one thing that is for sure: we like to create! And this film is about just that.

I came to this story because I didn't really know what to watch and Cate Blanchett popped into my head. So I said "mmm...let's see what about her". And so, I saw a cover that made me think of a laid-back movie, but when I read that it was a dramatic comedy I decided to watch it without giving it a second thought.

It couldn't have been better. It was the perfect movie for me that day.

¿De qué va la peli?

Pues la historia está enfocada en el único personaje principal de la película, Bernadette, como podrán suponer.

Ella es una mujer que tiene rasgos de antisocial, pasa demasiado tiempo encerrada en su casa y constantemente está enviando audios a su teléfono, para que escriba lo que va diciendo. Podrán pensar que vive sola, pero no, tiene un marido y una hija, a la que decidió cuidar ella al ciento por ciento desde que era pequeña, por lo que renunció a su trabajo de arquitecta, el que además la había terminado decepcionando. Un día, la hija les pide por favor viajar a la Antártida porque en la escuela estaban estudiando eso, y los padres aceptan. Su mamá, poco convencida internamente de viajar (pero haciéndoles creer a los demás que tenía muchas ganas de ir), empieza a buscar excusas para evitar el viaje y paralelamente encarga los medicamentos para evitar los mareos en el barco. Sí, así era esta mujer, con actitudes contradictorias y errantes. Cuando el marido se da cuenta de los medicamentos que su esposa estaba tomando, busca un poco más entre sus cosas y descubre muchísimos psicofármacos, por lo que consulta con una terapeuta, que le sugiere que lleve a Bernadette a una clínica a modo de internación mientras él y su hija viajan a la Antártida. De manera simultánea, Bernadette en su despiste había enviado información confidencial a la mafia rusa, creyendo que estaba comunicándose con una persona de confianza, por lo que su nombre termina en manos del FBI (esta parte desde mi punto de vista, está un poco “de más”, debido a que no tiene nada que ver con el resto de la trama).

En un momento, la protagonista llega a su casa y se encuentra a un agente de esta institución, a su marido y a la terapeuta, y todos le señalan su estado de desequilibrio y le informan que será internada. Así que la mujer, pide un momento para ir al baño y…

What's the movie about?

Well, the story is focused on the only main character in the movie, Bernadette, as you might guess.

She is a woman who has antisocial traits, she spends too much time locked in her house and is constantly sending audios to her phone, so that she writes down what she is saying. You might think that she lives alone, but no, she has a husband and a daughter, whom she decided to take care of herself one hundred percent since she was a little girl, so she quit her job as an architect, which had also ended up disappointing her. One day, the daughter asks them to please travel to Antarctica because they were studying that at school, and the parents accept. Her mother, internally unconvinced to travel (but making the others believe that she really wanted to go), starts to look for excuses to avoid the trip and at the same time she orders the medicines to avoid seasickness on the ship. Yes, that's how this woman was, with contradictory and errant attitudes. When the husband realizes the medications his wife was taking, he searches through her things and discovers a lot of psychopharmaceuticals, so he consults a therapist, who suggests that he take Bernadette to a clinic as an internment while he and his daughter travel to Antarctica. Simultaneously, Bernadette in her absent-mindedness had sent confidential information to the Russian mafia, believing that she was communicating with a trusted person, so her name ends up in the hands of the FBI (this part from my point of view, is a little "too much" because it has nothing to do with the rest of the plot).

At one point, the protagonist arrives home and finds an agent of this institution, her husband, and a therapist, and they all point out her unbalanced state and inform her that she will be hospitalized. So the woman asks for a moment to go to the bathroom and...

¡SE ESCAPA!

Termina en la casa de la vecina, con la que se llevaba extremadamente mal, pero le explica toda la situación y le pide por favor que la esconda un momento. Luego de eso, Bernadette (no sabemos cómo), aparece a bordo de un barco con destino a la Antártida.

En eso, personas de su entorno (amistodo y no tanto), entre ellas su hija, buscan en internet a “Bernadette Fox”, y descubren que es una de las arquitectas más importantes de la actualidad, que hacía años había dejado la profesión porque terminaron comprando la enorme tierra en la que ella estaba llevando a cabo una obra basada en la arquitectura medioambiental.

Cuestión que el padre y la hija siguen con sus planes de ir a la Antártida y cuando están en el sur, la hija siente que la madre está en una estación polar, así que van hacia allí y efectivamente, la encuentran.

La mujer había conocido a una investigadora y la misma le había dicho que una base estaba por demolerse y que aún no existía una idea para construir la nueva. Entonces a Bernadette se le despierta la arquitecta que lleva dentro y hace lo imposible por involucrarse en la construcción.

She ends up at the neighbor's house, with whom she got along extremely badly, but explains the whole situation to her and asks her to please hide her for a moment. After that, Bernadette (we don't know how), appears aboard a ship bound for Antarctica.

At that moment, people around him (friendly and not so friendly), including his daughter, search the internet for "Bernadette Fox", and discover that she is one of the most important architects of today, who had left the profession years ago because they ended up buying the huge land on which she was carrying out a work based on environmental architecture.

The father and daughter continue with their plans to go to Antarctica and when they are in the south, the daughter senses that the mother is in a polar station, so they go there and indeed, they find her.

The woman had met a researcher and she had told her that a base was about to be demolished and that there was no idea yet to build a new one. So Bernadette's inner architect is awakened and she does her best to get involved in the construction.

Mi opinión

Lo que no me gustó

En general la peli me gustó, pero tiene muchos vacíos en la historia, en donde no se entiende cómo el personaje termina en uno u otro lugar. Sé que ese tipo de extremos en la vida pueden ocurrir, sé muy bien que lo imposible se puede volver realidad, por eso no quiero llegar a decir “es demasiada” casualidad, pero una persona más pragmática y realista, no sé si estaría muy feliz con esta historia.

¡Lo que me encantó!

El mensaje final de esta serie es lo que más me gusta, ya que nos habla de una persona que lleva en todo su ser la pasión por crear y eso pasa a ser una necesidad. Al tapar ese talento y deseo, el mismo, empieza a carcomerla desde dentro hacia afuera, y esa idea, me fascina. Recientemente leí algo muy similar en el libro “Libera tu Magia” de Elizabeth Gilbert, y esta película decía justamente eso:

CREA, CREA, CREA.

Así que realmente, aunque no haya sido la más seria y coherente de las películas, como dije al principio, me transmitió el mensaje que necesitaba recibir en ese momento.

La recomiendo para momentos tranquilos, en los que no se busque ver una historia compleja, sino más bien relajarse.

Lo que sí, la actriz quedaba MUY grande para este papel. He visto a Cate en “peliculones”, y fue extraño verla actuar en una historia que, por momentos, como tal, parecía no tener “ni pies ni cabeza”. Pero bueno, en conclusión, sí disfruté la peli.

My opinion

What I didn't like

Overall I liked the movie, but it has a lot of gaps in the story, where you don't understand how the character ends up in one place or another. I know that those kinds of extremes in life can happen, I know very well that the impossible can become reality, that's why I don't want to go so far as to say "it's too much" chance, but a more pragmatic and realistic person, I don't know if I would be very happy with this story.

What I loved!

The final message of this series is what I like the most, as it tells us about a person who carries in her entire being the passion to create, and that becomes a necessity. By covering up that talent and desire, it begins to eat away at her from the inside out, and that idea fascinates me. I recently read something very similar in the book "Unleash Your Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert, and this movie said just that:

CREATE, CREATE, CREATE.

So really, although it may not have been the most serious and coherent of films, as I said at the beginning, it conveyed the message I needed to receive at that moment.

I recommend it for quiet moments, where you are not looking to see a complex story, but rather to relax.

The actress was WAY too big for this role. I've seen Cate in "big movies", and it was strange to see her acting in a story that, at times, as such, seemed to have "no head or tail". But well, in conclusion, I did enjoy the movie.
