Hello, internet people! Today I want to talk to you about what for me has been the only show that has been worth it, and that got my full attention for 12 years (and the ones that are still missing with the spin-offs) I'm talking about The Walking Dead, of course.
Hola, gente de internet! Hoy quiero hablarles lo que para mi ha sido la única serie que ha merecido la pena, y que obtuvo mi completa atención por 12 años (y los que faltan con los Spin-off) hablo de The Walking Dead, claro está.
The adventures of the show begin with the beloved Rick Grimes, a policeman who serves as a deputy sheriff and who, after being shot, falls into a coma. When he wakes up, Rick realises that the hospital he was admitted to is in a complete state of neglect, and when he takes to the streets, he learns that he has woken up in the middle of an undead apocalypse. Morgan (a man who helped him get back on his feet and get him up to speed) tells Rick that there may be a place of refuge in Atlanta, so he heads there to find Lori (his wife) and Carl, his son.
Las aventuras de la serie empiezan con el amado Rick Grimes, un policía que desempeña el cargo de ayudante del Sheriff y que tras recibir un disparo, queda en coma. Cuando despierta, Rick se da cuenta de que el hospital en el que fue ingresado, está en completo estado de abandono, y cuando sale a las calles, se entera de que ha despertado a mitad de un apocalipsis de muertos vivientes. The Walking Dead is a TV show owned by Kirkman and AMC, based on the graphic novel by the same author (Robert Kirkman). The show follows the central line of the comic with added characters and some changes in the plot that actually work well.

The truth is that The Walking Dead has a characteristic essence that no other film or show in the genre has, the depth of its characters, the plots, the villains, the make-up and characterisation work, the photography... everything in this show is great, but of course, as always, I'll break it all down.
La verdad es que The Walking Dead tiene una esencia característica que ninguna otra película o serie del género tiene, la profundidad de sus personajes, las tramas, los villanos, el trabajo de maquillaje y caracterización, la fotografía... todo en esta serie es genial, pero claro, como siempre, desglosaré todo.
Let's start with my favourite aspect on this specific occasion and that is the story, you see my favourite aspect in audiovisual material is always the photography, but in this case I fell in love with the story. The central idea is great (a father and husband who got comatose in a zombie apocalypse and does the impossible to be with them again), the secondary one (which later becomes the main one) a group of survivors with different personalities and ways of thinking, working together to survive and the development of each of the little stories of each of the characters no matter if they are the main or secondary, in this show each and every one of the character has importance and development, and that's what made it so good.
Empezaremos por mi aspecto preferido en esta ocasión en especifico, y esa es la historia, verán, mi aspecto preferido en material audiovisual siempre es la fotografía, pero en este caso me enamoré de la historia. La idea central es genial (un padre y esposo que quedó en coma en un apocalipsis zombie y hace hasta lo imposible por volver a estar con ellos), la secundaria (que posteriormente se hace la principal) un grupo de supervivientes con diferentes personalidades y formas de pensar, trabajando juntos para poder sobrevivir, y el desarrollo de cada una de las pequeñas historias de cada uno de los personajes sin importar si son los principales o secundarios, en esta serie todos y cada uno tienen importancia y desarrollo, y es eso lo que la hizo tan buena.
The Walking Dead in its entirety made quite strong and direct social criticisms, as well as giving valuable morals such as for example that ambition and having money were useless in that kind of world, or that the real threats were not the dead but the living themselves. Rick and his group were always committed to living according to communism (equal conditions for all according to their needs) and willing to collaborate in order to grow as a community, but without allowing themselves to be dominated and defending themselves. As born leaders, they always ended up taking charge of the situations or places they came to, as in the case of Alexandria.
The Walking Dead en toda su extensión hizo criticas sociales bastante fuertes y directas, además también daba moralejas de valor como por ejemplo que la ambición y el tener dinero no servían en ese mundo, o que las verdaderas amenazas no eran los muertos sino los mismos vivos. Rick y su grupo siempre apostaron por vivir según el comunismo (igualdad de condiciones para todos según sus necesidades) y dispuestos a colaborar para poder crecer como comunidad, pero sin dejarse dominar y defendiéndose a capa y espada. Como líderes natos, siempre terminaban haciéndose cargo de las situaciones o de los lugares a los que llegaban, como en el caso de Alexandría.
My favourite criticism happened when the group arrived in the commonwealth (both in the comic and in the tv show) and they realised that life there is like before, rich and poor in the place "that corresponds to them" but for various reasons, many people from the proletariat realise that Pamela Milton (the governor) is a hypocrite and they want to overthrow her, starting with protests (in the comic book it is because there is a rumour that in Alexandria, Rick (the leader) lives on equal terms with everyone, and that there are no preferences there, in the tv show it is because a journalist and the assistant are exposing the leader's dirty laundry).
Mi crítica preferida sucedió cuando el grupo llegó a la mancomunidad (tanto en el comic como en la serie) y se dieron cuenta de que allí la vida es como antes, ricos y pobres en el lugar "que les corresponde" pero por diversos motivos, mucha gente del proletario se da cuenta de que Pamela Milton (la gobernadora) es una hipócrita y quieren derrocarla, empezando por manifestaciones (en el comic es porque se corre el rumor de que en Alexandria, Rick (el líder) vive en igualdad de condiciones que todo el mundo, y que allí no hay preferencias, en la serie es porque una periodista y la asistente van exponiendo los trapos sucios de la líder)
And while we're talking about the story, we can't leave out the villains of the show. All of them so varied and some (my favourites) with a tremendous development and evolution. In my top 3... Let's start by talking about Philip Blake, better known as "The Governor". I would classify this character as a sociopath (because that the only being he had any affection for was his dead daughter), it was intelligent, calculating, manipulative and strategist, he was one of the biggest threats to Rick's group and although he missed his first attack, he got the second one right (I won't give details to avoid spoilers).
Y ya que hablamos de la historia, no podemos dejar de lado a los villanos de la serie. Todos tan variopintos y algunos (mis preferidos) con un desarrollo y evolución tremenda. en mi top tengo 3... abrimos camino hablando de Philip Blake, mejor conocido como "El Gobernador". Clasificaría a este personaje como un sociópata (dado a que el único ser por quien tenía cariño era por su hija muerta), inteligente, calculador, manipulador y estratega, fue una de las mayores amenazas del grupo de Rick, y aunque falló su primer ataque, acertó el segundo (no daré detalles para evitar el spoiler)
In the comic book he is more lethal, but in the show his personality is better worked and perfectly represented by the actor, he is one of the few that makes you feel chills when he appears on screen.
En el comic es más letal pero en la serie su personalidad está mejor trabajada y representada a la perfección por el actor, es de los pocos que te hace sentir escalofríos cuando aparece en pantalla.
Now let's stand up and applaud to welcome the almighty Negan. In his performance, you could see how much Jeffrey Dean Morgan loves his character because he put all his effort and skills into it. Sarcastic, charismatic, intelligent, strategic, calculating and quite organised, Negan has all the makings of a modern day Hitler or at least Heinrich Himmler, his organisation in making missions and plans as well as defending himself made him a potential threat, he also used fear against people and knowing how to torture and manipulate was easier for him.
Ahora pongámonos de pie y aplaudamos para recibir al todopoderoso Negan. En su interpretación, se notó todo lo que ama Jeffrey Dean Morgan a su personaje porque puso todo su empeño y habilidades en él. Sarcástico, carismático, inteligente, estratega, calculador y bastante organizado, Negan tiene todos los requisitos para ser el Hitler moderno, o como mínimo el Heinrich Himmler, su organización al hacer misiones y planes además de defenderse lo hacían una amenaza potencial, además utilizaba el miedo en contra de la gente, y sabiendo como torturar y manipular era más sencillo para él.
He was the only one capable of making Rick Grimes cry and beg, but also the only villain who could evolve and subsequently become part of Rick's group until he practically became family (even if there are some who still don't forgive him for his past sins), yet they are able to cooperate and work side by side with him.
Fue el único capaz de hacer llorar y suplicar a Rick Grimes, pero también el único villano que pudo evolucionar y posteriormente formar parte del grupo de Rick hasta hacerse prácticamente familia (aunque haya algunos que aún no lo perdonen por sus pecados pasados) aún así, son capaces de cooperar y trabajar codo a codo con él.
And finally we come to Alpha, another dangerous psychopath, intelligent, cunning, relentless, she's strange with a special way of attacking her enemies (I won't tell you what that way of attacking is because it would be a tremendous spoiler and would take away the impact if you haven't seen the series or haven't gotten there). She is the penultimate threat to the group of protagonists, and they can only defeat her with Negan's help.
Y finalmente llegamos a Alfa, otra psicópata de cuidado, inteligente, astuta, implacable, extraña y con una forma especial de atacar a sus enemigos (no les diré cual es esa forma de atacar porque sería un spoiler tremendo y quitaría el impacto si no han visto la serie o no han llegado ahí) Es la penúltima amenaza que tiene el grupo de protagonistas, y solo pueden derrotarla con ayuda de Negan.
A well-developed villain, a strange way of proceeding that often confuses us about who she is and what she wants, a damaged mind that only a psychiatrist would understand... she's fantastic.

Talking about the fantastic... performances, I don't even think the extras were bad actors 🤣 in 12 years of show of course there are too many memorable scenes where the performances were the epicentre of them, I'll leave you two of my favourite examples.

You can judge for yourselves, I am always at a loss for words when I try to talk about the performances of this magnificent cast.

The photography is superb, the shots are a delight, the colour palette is rather more ordinary but it's fine. There are some quite artistic sequences of scenes or shots, here is one of my favourites:

The soundtrack is spectacular, very much in keeping with the show and its setting, and the songs are quite enjoyable (I actually have several on my playlist).

But not everything is rosy, we all know that between seasons 6 and 8, the quality of the show went down, but not for the reasons that everyone says "it lost its essence" "Rick is gone" "the show is flat" "it's not like before" but no, The Walking Dead only suffered two mistakes: the first one (something really not so serious but that did have an influence) a disgusting CGI:

And the other mistake was the structure of the dynamism of the episodes, I will explain it in a simple way so that you understand me. Generally, episodes of series have two or more plots, so the viewer takes a break from one plot when the other begins to develop, and takes a break from the other when returning to the first, in this way, the episode feels dynamic and does not bore the audience, even if the things that happen in it are not transcendental. In this "dark" time of The Walking Dead, they structured the episodes with only one plot per episode, and in this way, even if the content was of the utmost importance and vitality for the development of the following episodes, seeing a single plot, developed with the same characters and in the same place, psychologically exhausts and gives the illusion of being a boring episode.
Y el otro error fue la estructura del dinamismo de los episodios, lo explicaré de forma simple para que me entiendan. Generalmente los episodios de las series cuentan con dos o más tramas, así el espectador descansa de una trama cuando se empieza a desarrollar la otra, y descansa de la otra cuando se vuelve a la primera, de esta manera, el episodio se siente dinámico y no aburre a la audiencia, aunque las cosas que suceden en él no sean trascendentales. En este tiempo "oscuro" de The Walking Dead, estructuraron los episodios con una sola trama por episodio, y de esta forma, aunque el contenido fuese de suma importancia y vitalidad para el desarrollo de los siguientes episodios, ver una sola trama, desarrollada con los mismos personajes y en el mismo lugar, quiera que no, psicológicamente agota y da la ilusión de ser un episodio aburrido.
Once the producers understood this basic rule, they went back to the original structure, they also changed the showrunner, and the show became fun and interesting again. On the other hand, while I won't deny that there were unnecessary deaths that occurred because of problems between the actors and the TV company, it wasn't something they didn't know how to fix within the show (except for Beth's death, which literally made no sense and didn't fit). Rick's departure didn't feel like a bad decision either, as they are very good at developing all the characters, for this reason, Daryl, who had already earned the love of the fans, was able along with Michonne and Carol (other beloved characters) to fill that space, plus by not killing off the character Rick, they were able to play with his epic return in the last episode.
Una vez que los productores entendieron esta regla básica, volvieron a la estructura original, además cambiaron al showrunner y la serie volvió a hacerse divertida e interesante. Por otro lado, aunque no negaré que hubo muertes innecesarias que ocurrieron por problemas entre los actores y la compañía televisiva, tampoco fue algo que no supieran arreglar dentro de la serie (exceptuando la muerte de Beth, esa literalmente no tuvo nada de sentido y no encajó). La salida de Rick tampoco la sentí como una mala decisión, ya que son muy buenos desarrollando a todos los personajes, por esta razón, Daryl, que ya se había ganado el amor de los fans, pudo junto con Michonne y Carol (otros personaje amados) cubrir ese espacio, además al no matar al personaje Rick, pudieron jugar con su regreso épico en el ultimo episodio.
The last episode was majestic, although there were some plot holes or convenient situations (nothing serious) the execution was tremendous, the performances were up to par as always and almost all the loose ends were tied up very well, those that were "loose" will have their development in the (for now) only 2 spin-offs of the show. I don't feel that the show was "dragged out" or "lasted too long" the viewer who is a fan will never get tired of seeing more of his favourite show (just ask us, Harry Potter fans) of course as long as they do it well and The Walking Dead is an example of this, in fact just look at this year's Comic Con and the red carpet of the last episode, in addition to the different shows and the aforementioned spin-offs that we all hope for.
El último episodio fue majestuoso, si bien hubo algunos agujeros de guion o situaciones convenientes (nada grave) la ejecución fue tremenda, las actuaciones a la altura como siempre y casi todos los cabos quedaron muy bien atados, los que quedaron "sueltos" es porque tendrán su desarrollo en los (por ahora) únicos 2 spin-off de la serie. No siento que la serie "fuese alargada" o "durara demasiado" al espectador que es fan nunca le cansará ver más de su serie preferida (pregúntennos a los fans de Harry Potter) claro que siempre que lo hagan bien, y The Walking Dead es ejemplo de ello, de hecho nada más hay que ver el Comic Con de este año y la alfombra roja del último episodio, además de las diferentes series y los ya mencionados Spin-off que todos esperamos.
In short, The Walking Dead is for me the best show ever, and as long as thhis universe expands, I will continue to watch the content.
En resumen, The Walking Dead es para mi la mejor serie que ha habido, y mientras se expanda el universo, seguiré viendo el contenido.
