Debo iniciar el post diciendo que esta película (si bien no es tan explícita como Saw) de igual forma no es para todo el mundo, ya que es bastante gráfica e implica torturas.
I should start the post by saying that this film (while not as explicit as Saw) is still not for everyone, as it's quite graphic and involves torture.
La historia nos sitúa en una escuela secundaria donde hay dos grupos: los marginados y los típicos chicos populares infames (que nadie entiende porqué son populares si son tan malas personas). El motor de la historia es el Bullying, ya que los populares suelen acosar y maltratar a estos chicos "renegados" y el cúmulo de odio en su interior hace que los adolescentes renegados tomen venganza de la forma más maquiavélica posible.
The story is set in a high school where there are two groups: the outcasts and the typical infamous popular kids (who nobody understands why they are popular if they are such bad people). The driving force of the story is bullying as the popular kids bully and mistreat these renegade kids and the accumulation of hatred within them, makes the renegade teenagers take revenge in the most Machiavellian way possible.
Los protagonistas hacen un fiesta de disfraces para los populares, en el ponche colocan un somnífero y luego de que los chicos populares se duermen, ellos los encadenan y proclaman (en pocas palabras) que todos serán torturados como castigo por sus malas acciones en contra de ellos (los renegados). Es cuando se desarrolla el horror.
The protagonists throw a costume party for the populars, put a sleeping pill in the punch, and after they fall asleep, they chain them up and proclaim (in a nutshell) that they will all be tortured as punishment for their evil deeds against them (the renegades). This is when the horror unfolds.
La fotografía de la película la encontré simplona, no quiero decir que sea mala, sino que no es mala ni buena, es estándar. Lo que sí me gustó fue la iluminación que estuvo bien trabajada, los planos o escenas no se veían quemados ni oscuros, sino que tenían un buen equilibrio.
I found the photography of the film simplistic, I don't mean that it's bad, but it's neither bad nor good, it's standard. What I did like was the lighting which was well worked, the shots or scenes didn't look burnt or dark but had a good balance.
Debo decir que las escenas de tortura están muy bien recreadas y las actuaciones fueron bastante buenas, pero lo que me molesta de la historia es que en un primer lugar nos quieren contar sobre la venganza de unos chicos que han sido víctimas de bullying cuyos maltratos despertaron sus instintos homicidas y se convirtieron en victimarios (por decirlo de alguna manera) sin embargo, en la última escena, una reportera relata los hechos restándole importancia al detonante de todo el crimen, el bullying. La cito: "La policía identificó a los asesinos como estudiantes disgustados que secuestraron, drogaron y descuartizaron a sus compañeros sin causa alguna". Si bien lo que hicieron "los renegados" obviamente no estuvo bien y es reprochable desde todo punto de vista, sus víctimas no eran precisamente buenas personas y sus acciones malintencionadas fueron precisamente las que causaron todo el crimen en sí, incluso para la trama, es un despropósito dejar de lado el hecho más importante. Lo que sí me gustó, es que suma de cierta manera un sentimiento de impotencia el hecho de que la gente los tome por simples chicos malvados en vez de chicos enfermos debido a constante acoso, aunque como dije, la acción es reprochable, no es lo mismo tener esas actitudes de la nada, a tenerla debido al acoso y maltrato, al menos, sabemos que el maltrato constante a una persona puede generar un daño mental y eso sería justo para esos chicos ante la sociedad, aún cuando fuesen a prisión.
I must say that the torture scenes are very well recreated and the performances were quite good, but what bothers me about the story is that in the first place they want to tell us about the revenge of some teenagers who have been victims of bullying whose mistreatment awakened their homicidal instincts and they became victimizers (so to speak) however, in the last scene, a reporter narrates the facts downplaying the trigger of the whole crime, the bullying. I quote her: "Police identified the killers as disgruntled students who kidnapped, drugged and dismembered their classmates without cause". While what "the renegades" did was obviously wrong and reprehensible from every point of view, their victims were not exactly good people and their malicious actions were precisely what caused the whole crime itself, even for the plot, it's nonsense to leave out the most important fact. But I must admit that it adds in a way a feeling of helplessness the fact that people take them for simple evil kids instead of sick kids due to constant harassment, although as I said, the action is reprehensible, it's not the same to have those attitudes out of the blue, to have it due to harassment and abuse, at least, we know that constant abuse to a person can generate mental damage and that would be fair for those kids before society, even if they go to prison.
Como una persona que detesta el bullying, debo admitir que ver las escenas de acoso (aunque no eran tan graves como incluso algunos casos reales) me molestaba bastante (punto para los actores) y en cuanto al momento previo a las torturas, incluso puede que el miedo que reflejan los populares pueda resultar satisfactorio para el espectador hasta que claro está, empieza la tortura y ya es ir demasiado lejos.
As a person who hates bullying, I must admit that watching the bullying scenes (although they were not as serious as even some real cases) bothered me a lot (point for the actors) and as for the moment before the tortures, maybe the fear reflected by the popular ones, can be even satisfying for the viewer until of course, the torture starts and it's already going too far.
En resumen... ¿es la mejor película que he visto? En lo absoluto, aunque el concepto es bueno, creo que no termina de desarrollarse la historia, en cuanto a ejecución se siente un poco plana y el clímax de la película (o lo que debería ser el clímax) no se siente como tal. Aunque he sido bastante exigente y crítica con esta película, puedo al menos decir que es entretenida y que al menos te mantiene mirándola.
In short... Is't the best film I've seen? Not at all, although the concept is good, I think the story doesn't quite develop, in terms of execution it feels a bit flat and the climax of the film (or what should be the climax) doesn't feel like that. Although I have been quite picky and critical of this film, I can at least say that it's an entertaining film and at least keeps you watching it.
