I was so longing for this season. After I watched The Witcher season 1, I ended up adoring Yennefer, the part-elf wizard who developed a romantic bond with "the guy with a sword" or Geralt the Rivia. She was who I was rooting for during season one. I enjoyed how she transformed from a deformed, part-piggy girl to a powerful, beautiful magician capable to make portals like she was just breathing. With all my excitement I waited season 2, and to see what the story line will have in store for her. Honestly, I ended kind of disappointed; let me tell you why as I review this season of the Witcher.

Season 2 starts with a reunited Geralt with his Child of promise, Ciri. I understand this has to be the main focus of the season, I accepted it, but what about the place Yennefer would play? In season one, she disappeared after the battle of Sodden. When she finally appears on screen this season, she is a prisoner of Nilfgaard, and she has lost her powers, yes, lost them. That already promised little to her participation. Nonetheless, I kept watching.
La temporada 2 comienza con un Geralt reunido con su Hijo de la promesa, Ciri. Entiendo que este debe ser el enfoque principal de la temporada, lo acepté, pero ¿qué pasa con el lugar donde jugaría Yennefer? En la primera temporada, desapareció después de la batalla de Sodden. As the season develops, some mysteries are unfold regarding Ciri, her true nature, and her purpose in the world of Midgard. Geralt develops a fatherly role for Ciri, and he is usually trying to decide what is best while protecting her at all cost. Honestly, this part is completely satisfying as we understand more of the main plot, and why Ciri is so important for everybody. Even though she was a bit of a headache during the season, I liked her development and intentions. She possesses chaos beyond any wizard, but its control is another story. Only Yennefer managed to teach her, and make her use her powers effectively; sometimes too effectively.
A medida que avanza la temporada, se revelan algunos misterios sobre Ciri, su verdadera naturaleza y su propósito en el mundo de Midgard. Geralt desarrolla un papel paternal para Ciri, y por lo general está tratando de decidir qué es lo mejor mientras la protege a toda costa. Another important part of the story is the introduction of Vesemir, his Witcher master who saved his kind from extinction. It made complete sense to watch the animated movie The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. With that knowledge, the whole context for season two is in place. Geralt and Ciri will spend a lot of time with Vesemir and the rest of the Witchers at their den which is the place the animated movie shows. I recommend watch it prior to this season.
Otra parte importante de la historia es la presentación de Vesemir, su maestro brujo que salvó a los de su especie de la extinción. Tenía mucho sentido ver la película animada The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Con ese conocimiento, todo el contexto para la segunda temporada está listo. Back to Yennefer, what can I say? I was grieving her lack of power to do amazing things. She spent all her chaos during the battle at Sodden burning all Nilfgaard soldiers alive which depleted her completely. So, my favorite wizard path in this season is about her trying to recover her powers. She finds herself with a Nilfgaard wizard, Fringilla. Both are taken captive later on by elves of the forest who are searching for ways to restore their past glory. This is a game of power, and the sacrifices each character must make to obtain it.
Volviendo a Yennefer, ¿qué puedo decir? Estaba de duelo por su falta de poder para hacer cosas asombrosas. Pasó todo su caos durante la batalla en Sodden quemando vivos a todos los soldados de Nilfgaard, lo que la agotó por completo. Entonces, mi camino de mago favorito en esta temporada es sobre ella tratando de recuperar sus poderes. Se encuentra con un mago de Nilfgaard, Fringilla. Sadly, while Yennefer refuses to succumb to dark sources for recovering her magic, she ends up understanding Ciri is her only chance to do it. She is seduced and manipulated to do so, and she takes the child of promise at the gates of Cintra for that purpose. Even dough she doesn't possesses magic anymore, we receive a good dose of the old good Yennefer. Her attitude, sarcasm, hidden goodness, past traumas, and more are quite present along the chapters. This season exposed her most vulnerable side. It was not enough, but it is all we got.
Lamentablemente, mientras Yennefer se niega a sucumbir a las fuentes oscuras para recuperar su magia, termina entendiendo que Ciri es su única oportunidad de hacerlo. Ella es seducida y manipulada para hacerlo, y para ese propósito lleva al niño prometido a las puertas de Cintra. Incluso la masa que ya no posee magia, recibimos una buena dosis de la vieja y buena Yennefer. Su actitud, sarcasmo, bondad oculta, traumas pasados y más están bastante presentes a lo largo de los capítulos. Esta temporada expuso su lado más vulnerable. No fue suficiente, pero es todo lo que obtuvimos.
Oh, the guy with the word you ask? he keeps doing what he does best, slay monsters, protect everyone, solve mysteries, and have a tough relationship with my favorite wizard.
while the critics spoke good of the season, fans were a bit disappointed. I was due to Yennefer, but people felt this season gave less than the previous one. Less battle was for sure, and less magic truly. Yet, the season gave more framework, more plot, more unveiled mysteries, more understanding, and it brought father-daughter love to the table.
I still recommend it though. I am those kind of people who needs to understand, infers what will happen, anticipates according to developing events, and expects certain outcomes. I enjoyed the season, and I hope the future brings more Yennefer with the guy of the sword and his brat.
Oh, ¿el tipo con la palabra que preguntas? sigue haciendo lo que mejor sabe hacer, matar monstruos, proteger a todos, resolver misterios y tener una relación difícil con mi mago favorito.
Mientras que los críticos hablaron bien de la temporada, los fanáticos estaban un poco decepcionados. Le debía a Yennefer, pero la gente sintió que esta temporada dio menos que la anterior.
