I have been a fan of romantic comedies all my life, and it has been a long time since I enjoyed one as much as I did with Long Shot. This is a 2019 film (available on Netflix right now), and it is about two people who share a short embarrassing memory meeting in the present, and developing a connection. The plot is set on a political environment which stablishes a distance in social and work classes. I guess this is why the movie is called Long shot. It is a big gamble, or a matter of fate that these two different people could end up together, and the enjoyment of the movie comes precisely from that: how the impossible might become possible due to love.
He sido fanático de las comedias románticas toda mi vida, y hacía mucho tiempo que no disfrutaba tanto con una como con Long Shot. Esta es una película de 2019 (disponible en Netflix en este momento), y se trata de dos personas que comparten un recuerdo breve y vergonzoso que se encuentran en el presente y desarrollan una conexión. La trama está ambientada en un ambiente político que establece una distancia en las clases sociales y laborales. Supongo que por eso la película se llama Long shot. Es una gran apuesta, o una cuestión del destino, que estas dos personas diferentes puedan terminar juntas, y el disfrute de la película viene precisamente de eso: cómo lo imposible puede volverse posible debido al amor.
When I saw the poster, I didn't know if this pair would work. Seth Rogen is great with comedy, and Charlize Theron is good at serious roles. But making those things come together kind of describes the film itself. Their chemistry was really good. I enjoyed the softer and more serious parts of Seth' role, and seeing Charlize more relaxed for a change.
Cuando vi el cartel, no sabía si este par funcionaría. Seth Rogen es genial con la comedia y Charlize Theron es buena en papeles serios. Pero hacer que esas cosas se unan describe la película en sí. Su química era realmente buena. Disfruté las partes más suaves y serias del papel de Seth y ver a Charlize más relajada para variar.
In its beginning, it doesn't feel like like a typical romantic movie, and it uses embarrassment to stablish a linking bond between the characters. It is not until later on that you start noticing the chemistry, and the possibility of those two being together. Thus, naturally you start to ship the couple together, and root for them as things start to become difficult. We have all seen political set in the United States, so the concepts of scandal, manipulation, corruption, and such appear quickly in our minds. Nonetheless, I appreciate the softer tone of political-portrayed life in this movie. I think that made it more enjoyable.
En un principio, no parece la típica película romántica y utiliza la vergüenza para establecer un vínculo de unión entre los personajes. No es hasta más tarde que empiezas a notar la química y la posibilidad de que esos dos estén juntos. Por lo tanto, naturalmente, comienzas a enviar a la pareja junta y los apoyas cuando las cosas comienzan a ponerse difíciles. Todos hemos visto escenarios políticos en los Estados Unidos, por lo que los conceptos de escándalo, manipulación, corrupción y demás aparecen rápidamente en nuestras mentes. No obstante, aprecio el tono más suave de la vida política retratada en esta película. Creo que eso lo hizo más agradable.
Not only the cast worked well together, but they provided a lot of serious adult fun. The protagonist's best friend, and the Secretary of State's assistants help elevate the jokes, and complicate the situations. I personally liked the political-religious related joke regarding the best friend (go watch it if you wanna know lol).
No solo el elenco trabajó bien en conjunto, sino que brindaron mucha diversión para adultos. El mejor amigo del protagonista y los asistentes del Secretario de Estado ayudan a elevar las bromas y complicar las situaciones. Personalmente, me gustó el chiste político-religioso relacionado con el mejor amigo (ve a verlo si quieres saber jajaja).
There is not only embarrassment and jokes in this movie, there is serious complications that represent a menace to the relationship. I say serious, but as serious as they can be inside of a comedy, I mean, even complications are funny. Definitely, they are not for sensitive souls, but they are all funny. The structure of the development between the protagonists is predictable if you are used to romantic comedies, yet I liked it to be predictable because my anticipations and inferences felt rewarded as they happened in the movie.
No solo hay vergüenza y bromas en esta película, hay serias complicaciones que representan una amenaza para la relación. Digo serio, pero tan serio como puede ser dentro de una comedia, quiero decir, incluso las complicaciones son divertidas. Definitivamente, no son para almas sensibles, pero todos son divertidos. La estructura del desarrollo entre los protagonistas es predecible si estás acostumbrado a las comedias románticas, pero me gustó que fuera predecible porque mis anticipaciones e inferencias se sintieron recompensadas como sucedieron en la película.
This movie is really worth watching. It has a little bit of everything including classical and modern approaches to humor, couple's drama, mischievous sidekicks, embarrassment, and slow motion moments. I really love the reverse Cinderella approach because is the male protagonist treated as the one who is reaching to meet someone outside his world in a way-above position than him. One plus is also looking to a more relaxed Charlize Theron on a happy funny role. I think she needed that after such serious, dramatic, and strong roles of past films. Lastly, the lessons about love are true: we are all worthy of love. Overall, I shipped the couple, I dug their chemistry, and I loved them trying to make that looong shot happen. Fully recommended.
Realmente vale la pena ver esta película. Tiene un poco de todo, incluidos enfoques clásicos y modernos del humor, drama de pareja, compinches traviesos, vergüenza y momentos en cámara lenta. Realmente me encanta el enfoque inverso de Cenicienta porque el protagonista masculino es tratado como el que está llegando a encontrarse con alguien fuera de su mundo en una posición muy por encima de él. Una ventaja también es buscar a una Charlize Theron más relajada en un papel alegre y divertido. Creo que ella necesitaba eso después de papeles tan serios, dramáticos y fuertes en películas pasadas. Por último, las lecciones sobre el amor son verdaderas: todos somos dignos de amor. En general, envié a la pareja, descubrí su química y me encantó que trataran de hacer que esa posibilidad remota sucediera. Totalmente recomendada.
