Okay, I actually had a really good time with this one, and I feel like it's gotten a bit of a bad rap given how quietly it slipped out into theaters this year.
So here's the deal... Rachel Wild is this lawyer who's basically a professional debt collector for people who really, really don't want to pay up. She's the kind of character who can walk into a room full of dangerous people and somehow come out with a check in hand. She gets hired by a banking exec, played by Rosamund Pike... who's perfectly strung-out and desperate in the role... to recover a billion dollars from a crime boss who's already killed the last lawyer who tried to collect. Rachel brings in her own team of operatives, people just as comfortable in a boardroom as they are holding a rifle, and what starts as "let's go collect some money" turns into this much bigger, much messier situation involving betrayal, shifting alliances, and a whole lot of gunfire.
Look, the backstory on this movie is kind of wild on its own. It got shot back in 2023, sat around in post-production for years, got bounced between distributors, lost its original release date entirely, and eventually just came out, almost quietly, with barely any marketing behind it at all. Honestly, given all that baggage, I went in expecting a disaster.... the kind of movie that got shelved for a reason but What I got instead was a genuinely fun, stylish popcorn movie that I don't think deserved to get dumped the way it did. It's not a masterpiece, but it's also clearly not the mess its release history might suggest.
Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza González are just a blast to watch together. There's an easy chemistry between the three of them... they clearly get along, they're having fun with the material, and they all look incredible doing it. Ritchie knows exactly how to use that kind of star power, and he leans into it hard, letting the camera just sit with these three being charming and lethal in equal measure. González especially is the standout for me, and I don't think that's a controversial take because She's commanding in a way that makes you completely buy her as someone who can out-negotiate a room full of criminals one minute and then turn around and handle herself in an actual firefight the next. It's a role that could've easily felt like "tough lawyer, but make it action movie," and instead she gives it real texture. Carlos Bardem as the villain is genuinely unsettling too, which helps a lot — you need a real, credible threat for a movie like this to work, someone who feels like he could actually win, and Bardem delivers exactly that kind of menace without tipping into cartoonish territory.
Yeah, it's very much "a Guy Ritchie movie" through and through, you already know the vibe if you've seen any of his recent stuff.
Snappy, overlapping dialogue, guys in beautifully tailored suits, a heist plan that gets explained in a lot of loving detail before it actually happens but That's not new ground for him by any stretch, and if you're hoping he's going to reinvent himself here, you'll probably walk away a little let down.
There's a chunk in the middle of the movie that's basically people sitting around talking through the plan rather than actually executing it, and I get why that pacing might test some people's patience, especially if you're coming in expecting nonstop action from start to finish, but honestly? I didn't mind it at all because I was just enjoying being in the room with these characters, soaking up the chemistry and the style even during the slower stretches, believe me, It was slick, fun, and the action when it finally hits is genuinely satisfying, and it never overstays its welcome, clocking in at under 100 minutes so it never drags long enough to wear out its welcome. It's exactly the kind of movie I'd happily throw on again on a lazy afternoon without a second thought, and honestly, I think a lot of people are going to be pleasantly surprised by it if they give it the chance its rocky release never really gave it.
Truthfully speaking i think the movie is genuinely fun, stylish throwback that deserved a lot better than the quiet release it got.
