"The Undoing" (PL title "Od Nowa") is a mini-series produced by HBO. It is an adaptation of a book by Jean Hanff Korelitzpt. "You didn't want to know." To sum up in one sentence - if you are a woman (or a man, although I think this series is aimed mainly at the more beautiful sex) and you like drama series, thriller or just works in the atmosphere of "Gone Girl", then you really want to I recommend. 6 episodes last less than 6 hours, so you can watch it on Friday night and finish it on Saturday morning or evening.
The plot is about a wealthy family from New York. Grace (Nicole Kidman) works as a relationship therapist and her loving husband (Hugh Grant) is an oncologist treating children who lost the gene lottery almost right from the start. Together, they have a young son who attends an elite school in NY, sponsored by Grace's father (Donald Sutherland). Each of them is successful and it would seem that the idyllic life will soon take off for good. Unfortunately, one day their lives turned upside down. It started when Elena - a young, very sexy woman - started to approach Grace. Seemingly for no reason, just like that, she wanted to innocently talk, meet new friends, so that she would not get bored with her son at school, but you don't have to be a careful observer to feel that something is wrong. It turned out that a little later Elena fell victim to a brutal murder - her head was crushed with a hammer (for comparison - comparable to Prince Oberyn in "Game of Thrones"), and her husband begins to act strangely suspicious. The next day, Grace is visited by two detectives and ... I won't reveal the rest. The plot is ambiguous and there are reasonable arguments that the prime suspect is not necessarily the perpetrator of a brutal murder.
As you can see, the series has a star cast. I have known each of these actors since I was a child and although they do not belong to the 1st league at present (and Donald probably never belonged to it), they are still talented people who do their job well. You can immediately see the difference in the acting craft between them and actors who are just building their brand by appearing in TV series or streaming. This is a completely different league - they show emotions less well, do not have such rich facial expressions and experience. Don't get me wrong - I don't complain about them, nobody was a master in their profession after one or two years of work. It's just that a series with actors like this is much more fun. Especially when it is a mini-series - one with a tight plot, in which there are no threads leading to anything or fillers taking up space on the plate, such as excess potatoes or rice. Here we have only meat.
The series did not make a huge impression on me, but I liked it the most. The plot keeps you in suspense for most of the screening, Donald Sutherland plays the character I love to watch on TV or the cinema - a nasty dick who, if he wants to, can do a lot of harm to the person who pissed him off. I also liked the advocate of the heroes - the Lady has big balls, a strong character, she is not stupid, she has no idiotic approach to life, but she knows that her own (and family's) happiness, life and money counts. The rest of the actors played well, but these four got my special attention. As for me, it deserves 8/10 - it's a good craft job in every way, but I missed something. Nevertheless, it is worth watching, regardless of age.

Podsumowując jednym zdaniem - jeśli jesteś kobietą (lub mężczyzną, aczkolwiek wydaje mi się, że ten serial jest raczej skierowany głównie do piękniejszej płci) i lubisz seriale z gatunku dramat, thriller lub po prostu dzieła w klimatach "Gone Girl", to bardzo Ci to polecam. 6 odcinków trwa mniej niż 6 godzin, więc spokojnie można go obejrzeć w piątek wieczorem i dokończyć w sobotę rano lub wieczorem.
Fabuła opowiada o bogatej rodzinie z Nowego Yorku. Grace (Nicole Kidman) pracuje jako terapeutka rozwiązująca problemy w związkach, a jej kochający mąż (Hugh Grant) jest onkologiem leczącym dzieci, które przegrały loterię genową niemal już na starcie. Razem mają małego synka, który uczęszcza do elitarnej szkoły w NY, sponsorowanej przez ojca Grace (Donald Sutherland). Każdy z nich odnosi sukcesy i wydawałoby się, że sielankowe życie niedługo rozkręci się na dobre. Niestety, pewnego dnia ich życie wywróciło się do góry nogami. Zaczęło się od tego, że do Grace zaczęła podchodzić Elena - młoda, bardzo seksowna kobieta. Niby bez przyczyny, ot tak chciała niewinnie pogadać, poznać nowe koleżanki, by jej się nie nudziło w szkole syna, ale nie trzeba być wnikliwym obserwatorem, by poczuć że coś jest nie tak. Okazało się, że nieco później Elena padła ofiarą brutalnego morderstwa - jej głowa została zmiażdżona młotkiem (dla porównania - porównywalnie u księcia Oberyna w "Game of Thrones"), a jej mąż zaczyna zachowywać się dziwnie podejrzanie. Następnego dnia Grace zostaje odwiedzona przez dwójkę detektywów i... Reszty nie zdradzę. Fabuła nie jest jednoznaczna i są sensowne argumenty za tym, że niekoniecznie główny podejrzany jest sprawcą brutalnego morderstwa.
Jak sami widzicie, serial ma gwiazdorską obsadę. Od dziecka znam każdego z tych aktorów i choć obecnie nie należą do 1 ligi (a Donald chyba nigdy do niej nie należał), to nadal są utalentowanymi ludźmi, którzy dobrze wykonują swoją robotę. Odrazu widać różnicę w aktorskim rzemiośle między nimi, a aktorami którzy dopiero budują swoją markę występując w serialach do telewizji lub na streaming. To zupełnie inna liga - słabiej przedstawiają emocje, nie mają takiej bogatej mimiki i doświadczenia. Nie zrozumcie mnie źle - nie narzekam na nich, nikt nie był mistrzem w swoim zawodzie po roku, czy 2 latach pracy. Po prostu serial z takimi aktorami jest o wiele większą przyjemnością. Zwłaszcza, kiedy jest to mini-serial - taki ze zwartą fabułą, w którym nie ma wątków prowadzących do niczego lub fillerów zajmujących miejsce na talerzu, jak nadmiar ziemniaków, czy ryżu. Tutaj mamy samo mięso.
Serial co prawda nie zrobił na mnie olbrzymiego wrażenia, ale jak najbardziej podobał mi się. Fabuła trzyma w napięciu przez większość seansu, Donald Sutherland gra taką postać, jakie uwielbiam oglądać w telewizji lub kinie - wrednego kutasa, który jak zechce, to może zrobić dużą krzywdę osobie, która go wkurzyła. Bardzo też polubiłem adwokata bohaterów - Pani ma duże jaja, mocny charakter, nie jest głupia, nie ma idiotycznego podejścia do życia, tylko wie że liczy się jej własne (oraz rodziny) szczęście, życie i pieniądze. Reszta aktorów zagrała dobrze, ale ta czwórka zdobyła moją szczególną uwagę. Jak dla mnie zasługuje na 8/10 - pod każdym względem jest to dobra, rzemieślnicza robota, ale zabrakło mi czegoś. Tym niemniej warto obejrzeć, niezależnie od wieku.
