If there is one thing that has characterized the movies I have seen in the last few weeks is that many of them are not mainstream and can get a little weird but always for the better. When I refer to weird I mean that it is not the typical thing that someone might see when sitting down and enjoying the movie. A good example of this is today's film, which in Spanish translates to: Aura: “The Last Stand of the White Fang”. I can assure you that it is nothing like you imagine, at first it seems like something magical, a typical isekai with majestic characters and worlds full of mysteries but the reality is very different, it is something much more real and with problems that are lived in the day to day within the walls of a school or institute.

Si algo ha caracterizado las películas que he visto en la últimas semanas es que muchas de ellos no son mainstream y que pueden llegar un tanto raras pero siempre para bien. Cuando me refiero a raras hablo de que no es lo típico que alguien pudiera ver al momento de sentarse y disfrutar la película. Un buen ejemplo de esto es este film del día de hoy, que en español se traduce en: Aura: "La última batalla del Colmillo Blanco". Les puedo asegurar que no es nada de lo que se imaginan, de buenas a primeras parece algo mágico, un típico isekai con personajes majestuosos y mundos llenos de misterios pero la realidad es muy distinta, es algo mucho más real y con problemas que se viven en el día a día dentro de las paredes de un colegio o instituto.

This is about bullying and harassment, my friends, it's as simple as that. Satou Ichirou is a young man who apparently lives or lived in a parallel reality, this has to do with cosplay; he imagined himself as an anti hero and based his life under that character. This is Japan has a specific name, the chuunibyou syndrome, which speaks of delusions of grandeur and always wanting to excel on the part of some young people. The thing is that because of this behavior he began to suffer from bullying in his school so he had to leave and start from scratch somewhere else and if that were not enough he had to repress his tastes in order to fit into the society of this new school as a “normal” young man.

Esto va de acoso y bullying amigos, así de simple. Satou Ichirou es un joven quien aparentemente vive o vivía en una realidad paralela, esto tiene que ver con los cosplay; él se imaginaba a sí mismo como un antihéroe y basaba su vida bajo ese personaje. Esto es Japón tiene un nombre en específico, el síndrome de chuunibyou, que habla de los delirios de grandeza y de querer siempre sobresalir por parte de algunos jóvenes. La cosa es que debido a este comportamiento él comenzó a sufrir de acoso en su colegio por lo que tuvo que irse de ahí y empezar de cero en otro lado y por si esto no fuera poco tuvo que reprimir sus gustos para así encajar en la sociedad de este nuevo colegio como un joven "normal".

Everything changes when a new girl, Ryoko, who suffers the same as him, arrives at the new school where Ichirou is. She calls herself an “investigator” and is on a research mission, and is dressed in a cape and a staff made from things you can find in any house. The interesting thing is that at first he doesn't want anything to do with her because she reminds him of his past that he wants to hide so much, he projects himself on her and that's why he rejects her. But as bullying is free and is everywhere Ryoko had to live it and that's where our protagonist realizes many things and decides to intercede for her. This movie surprised me because it was clearly not what I expected but it ended up being a good story about a problem that is far from over.

Todo cambia cuando al nuevo colegio en donde está Ichirou llega una nueva chica, Ryoko, quien sufre lo mismo que él. Ella se hace llamar "investigador" y está en una misión de busqueda, además va vestida con una capa y un báculo hecho con cosas que consigues en cualquier casa. Lo interesante es que al principio él no quiere nada con ella porque le recuerda a su pasado que tanto quiere esconder, se proyecta en ella y por eso la rechaza. Pero como el bullying es gratis y está en todos lados a Ryoko le tocó vivirlo y es ahí en donde nuestro protagonista se da cuenta de muchas cosas y decide interceder por ella. Esta película me sorprendió porque claramente no era lo que esperaba pero terminó siendo una buena historia sobre una problemática que está lejos de acabar.

When the film starts, you honestly think that something very exciting and action-packed is coming, but nothing could be further from the truth. It is a story full of complexes, insecurities, of always wanting to look like something you are not; that is, at times it can be very sad because it is easy to empathize with these people but at the same time it is revealing because despite the looks and comments many of them continue to do what they like so much. In the world there are many prejudices, especially within schools, children/young people can become very cruel and this film is a reflection of that.

Cuando empieza la película honestamente piensas que se viene algo muy movido y lleno de mucha acción pero, nada más alejado de la realidad. Es una historia llena de complejos, inseguridades, del querer siempre aparentar algo que no se es; es decir, por momentos puede ser muy triste porque es fácil empatizar con esta gente pero al mismo tiempo es reveladora porque a pesar de las miradas y comentarios muchos de ellos siguen haciendo lo que tanto les gusta. En el mundo hay muchos prejuicios, sobre todo dentro de los colegios, los niños/jóvenes pueden llegar a ser muy crueles y este film es un reflejo de eso.

The plot is simple, it always takes place either at school or at Ichirou's home. Because of course, this issue also affects family life, it will depend on how it is handled and how much understanding the parents in question may have. But as I said, the story is linear, there are no radical changes; what is developed little by little is the relationship between Ichirou and Ryoko, a love/hate relationship because deep down he feels affection for her but what people will say affects him a lot. In addition, two things happen: the main teacher is the one who asks Ichirou to watch over Ryoko against his will and some classmates exercise a kind of blackmail against him for things from his past. As you can see, it is the classic life of a teenager.

La trama es simple, siempre se desarrolla o en el colegio o en casa de Ichirou. Porque claro, este tema también afecta la vida familiar, dependerá de cómo sea manejado y de que tanta compresión puedan llegar a tener los padres en cuestión. Pero como les decía, la historia es lineal, no hay cambios radicales; lo que se va elaborando poco a poco es la relación entre Ichirou y Ryoko, una relación de amor/odio porque en el fondo él siente cariño por ella pero el qué dirán le afecta mucho. Además que pasan dos cosas: el profesor principal es el que le pide a Ichirou velar por Ryoko en contra de su voluntad y que algunos compañeros de clases ejercen una especie de chantaje en contra de él por cosas de su pasado. Como ven es la clásica vida de un adolescente.

The animation is cool, it has good details and good finishes, but you don't notice much or need something super well done because the story doesn't give so much. But yes, in spite of that it is very enjoyable, it has its own things that make the result very enjoyable. The development of the characters is good, especially that of Ichirou, denotes that over time he is maturing and that it is not worth staying with what others think; when he finally makes that change in his mind this is released is when he really free and full. Suffering from bullying is not easy, it is something that makes you weak, paralyzes you and makes you unable to face the bully; this film shows you that you can get out of that hole.

La animación está cool, tiene buenos detalles y buenos acabados, tampoco se nota mucho o hace tanta falta algo super bien hecho porque la historia no da para tanto. Pero si, a pesar de eso se disfruta mucho, tiene sus cosas que hace que el resultado sea muy disfrutable. El desarrollo de los personajes es bueno, especialmente el de Ichirou, denota que con el tiempo va madurando y que no vale la pena quedarse con lo que piensan los demás; cuando finalmente hace ese cambio en su mente esta se libera es ahí cuando él realmente libre y pleno. Sufrir de bullying no es fácil, es algo que te hace débil, te paraliza y te hace incapaz de encarar al abusador; este film te muestra que si se puede salir de ese hueco.

A very cool movie with an important message. It is a complex subject but here it is approached in a very fresh way. Good animation and the way they put together the plot talking about different worlds referring to the reality they live in school and the need to escape at all costs is something deep and worth paying attention to. Una película muy cool y con un mensaje importante. Es un tema complejo pero que acá lo abordan de una manera muy fresca. Buena animación y la forma en cómo armaron la trama hablando de mundos diferentes refiriéndose a la realidad que viven en el colegio y de la necesidad de querer escapar a toda costa es algo profundo y que vale la pena prestarle atención.
