Cada vez nos queda menos en esta carrera que decidí comenzar hace unas semanas atrás y esto porque los premios Oscars son este domingo próximo, pero aquí estamos completando esas películas que por una u otra razón no las había visto. En esta oportunidad le tocó el turno a la muy aclamada DUNE, película que ya tiene tiempo de estrenada, como 6 meses aproximadamente, y que yo dejándome llevar un poco por los amigos y conocidos no había decidido verla.
We have less and less left in this race that I decided to start a few weeks ago and this because the Oscars are this coming Sunday, but here we are completing those films that for one reason or another I had not seen. This time it was the turn of the highly acclaimed DUNE, a film that has been released for about 6 months now, and that I had not decided to see it because of my friends and acquaintances.
Tengo que decir que muchas de las razones por la que había postergado disfrutar esta película era porque según era una trama muy lenta, al cierto tiempo te quedabas dormido, a Zendaya la desperdiciaron, Timothée Chalamet no es un buen actor, etc. Pero como siempre he dicho que las opiniones se las tiene que crear uno mismo una vez vista puedo decir que, para mi, fue una gran película, en lo personal la disfruté mucho con sus grandes efectos visuales. Así que hablemos entonces acerca de esta film.
I have to say that many of the reasons why I had postponed enjoying this movie was because according to them it was a very slow plot, you fell asleep after a while, Zendaya was wasted, Timothée Chalamet is not a good actor, etc. But as I have always said that you have to create your own opinions once you have seen it, I can say that, for me, it was a great movie, I personally enjoyed it a lot with its great visual effects. So let's talk about this film.
Ok, la trama es bastante sencilla. Acá nos encontramos en un futuro distópico donde los que dominan el universo son familias que pertenecen a una especia de nobleza, nobleza que está en la disputa por hacerse cargo de un planeta, Arrakis, por su posición geográfica y porque en él existe una "especia" que es vital para la existencia y el desarrollo de la misma civilización. La cosa es que por lo extraña que es y lo complicado que es obtenerla, todo aquel que tenga en poder sobre ella, tendrá el poder sobre el imperio reinante y eventualmente sobre la misma humanidad.
Ok, the plot is quite simple. Here we find ourselves in a dystopian future where those who dominate the universe are families that belong to a kind of nobility, a nobility that is in dispute to take over a planet, Arrakis, because of its geographical position and because it contains a "spice" that is vital for the existence and development of the civilization itself. The thing is that because of how rare it is and how complicated it is to obtain it, whoever has power over it, will have power over the reigning empire and eventually over humanity itself.
Para hacer esa tarea se escogió a la cara Atreides, liderada por el Duque Leto (Oscar Isaac), por su pareja Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) y el hijo Paul (Timothée Chalamet). Todo se complica cuando al llegar al planeta en cuestión se dan cuenta que las condiciones no son las que esperaban y de la nada se van a encontrar en un espiral de traiciones en donde sus vidas corren un serio riego en manos de un poderoso enemigo, el Barón Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård).
The Atreides team, led by Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac), his partner Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) and son Paul (Timothée Chalamet), was chosen to carry out this task. Everything gets complicated when upon arriving on the planet in question they realize that the conditions are not what they expected and out of nowhere they will find themselves in a spiral of betrayal where their lives are at serious risk in the hands of a powerful enemy, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård).
Después de vista me cuesta entender un poco porque a tantas personas no les gustó si estamos ante una película de una calidad innegable. Lo único de lo que me arrepiento es de no haberla visto en los cines por lo increíble de sus efectos especiales y visuales y por el magnifico sonido y banda sonora que tiene; creo que estos aspectos son los fuertes de esta película en esta temporada de premios, de hecho ya ganó 4 premios BAFTA y todo en estas dos categorías y 2 Critics Choice. Hay que decir que la banda sonora estuvo a manos del gran Hans Zimmer por lo que esperaría un Oscar más para él además de uno más en lo que elementos visuales se refiere.
After watching it, it's hard for me to understand why so many people didn't like it if it's a film of undeniable quality. The only thing I regret is not having seen it in theaters because of its incredible special effects and visuals and the magnificent sound and soundtrack it has; I think these aspects are the strengths of this film in this awards season, in fact it already won 4 BAFTA awards and all in these two categories and 2 Critics Choice. It must be said that the soundtrack was in the hands of the great Hans Zimmer so I would expect one more Oscar for him in addition to one more in what visual elements are concerned.
Esto al ser una adaptación de un libro, que por cierto es muy complicado de leer por lo densa y profunda de su trama, tiene más merito porque casi nunca estos experimentos quedan bien, afortunadamente Denis Villeneuve lo supo hacer de maravilla. En ningún momento la historia se hace pesada, siempre hay un aura de misterio pero no del que da miedo sino del que te anticipa de que algo grande está a punto de suceder y ese factor es el que impulsa la trama a que sea enérgica pero con sus toques de drama y nostalgia. Definitivamente no es una historia que aburre, por lo menos a mi me pareció en lo absoluto.
This being an adaptation of a book, which by the way is very complicated to read because of the dense and deep plot, has more merit because almost never these experiments are well, fortunately Denis Villeneuve knew how to do it wonderfully. At no time does the story becomes heavy, there is always an aura of mystery but not the scary kind but the one that anticipates that something big is about to happen and that factor is what drives the plot to be energetic but with touches of drama and nostalgia. It's definitely not a boring story, at least I didn't find it boring at all.
Como dije el fuerte de este film son sus efectos visuales, es increíble lo que lograron al punto de que el parecido con Star Wars en ciertos momentos y pasajes se hace muy evidente y no lo digo como una critica sino como todo lo contrario. Es por eso que pienso que aquellos que vieron esta película en los cines estoy seguro que la disfrutaron 10 veces más a los que la vimos en casa. Una de las criticas que tiene esta película es su carente acción a pesar de ser ciencia ficción pero aquellos que hacen esos comentarios no saben que el libro es así, es más político que otra cosa en donde hasta la religión forma una parte muy importante en la vida de estos personajes. Y si antes la comparé con Star Wars, con este último aspecto la comparo con Game Of Thrones es una versión futurista en el espacio.
As I said the strong point of this film is its visual effects, it is incredible what they achieved to the point that the resemblance to Star Wars in certain moments and passages becomes very evident and I do not say this as a criticism but as the opposite. That's why I think that those who saw this movie in theaters I'm sure they enjoyed it 10 times more than those who saw it at home. One of the criticisms that this movie has is its lack of action despite being science fiction but those who make those comments do not know that the book is like that, it is more political than anything else where even religion is a very important part in the lives of these characters. And if before I compared it to Star Wars, with this last aspect I compare it to Game Of Thrones is a futuristic version in space.
En cuanto a los personajes Timothée Chalamet me soprendió bastante, no es de mi actores preferidos pero al igual que con Pattinson en Batman llegué con bajas expectativas. Es el personajes que más me gustó por su evolución en toda la historia, al principio lo vemos como el temeroso y dubitativo con respecto a sus poderes y su sitio dentro de la familia pero a medida que la historia avanza y por las experiencias que va viviendo vemos como ese carácter y espíritu se va fortaleciendo hasta llegar a ser el hombre que su padre aspiraba que fuera. Es un buen viaje el que nos muestra Timothée sin nunguna duda.
As for the characters Timothée Chalamet surprised me a lot, he is not one of my favorite actors but as with Pattinson in Batman I arrived with low expectations. He is the character that I liked the most for his evolution throughout the story, at first we see him as the fearful and hesitant about his powers and his place within the family but as the story progresses and the experiences he is living we see how that character and spirit is getting stronger to become the man his father aspired him to be. It is a good journey that Timothée shows us without a doubt.
Es un film con un elenco descomunal, tener en una misma película a Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, entre otros nos habla de lo que se quiso buscar al hacer esta adaptación. Todos y cada uno de ellos hicieron un papel adecuado, Momoa como el protector de la familia haciendo lo que mejor sabe, pelear; Bautista como el villano despiadado, la fuerza bruta; pero si tengo que hacer una mención especial es para Skarsgard con el Barón, la verdad es que me llamó mucho la atención ese personaje por lo cruel que es, me hubiese gustado verlo más pero de igual forma, muy épico.
It is a film with a huge cast, having Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, among others in the same film tells us what they wanted to look for when making this adaptation. Each and every one of them played an adequate role, Momoa as the protector of the family doing what he knows best, fighting; Bautista as the ruthless villain, the brute force; but if I have to make a special mention is for Skarsgard with the Baron, the truth is that this character caught my attention because of how cruel he is, I would have liked to see him more but in the same way, very epic.
Concluyendo. Una película muy pero que muy buena y que vale mucho la pena de ver si eres fanático de la ciencia ficción, de las tramas futuristas, del tema político/religioso y lleno de traiciones que por lo general siempre van de la mano y por supuesto de los grandes efectos que deslumbran la pantalla; si les gusta todo lo que acabo de nombrar pues esta película la disfrutarán tanto como lo hice yo. No veo pie para la critica de un film tan bien logrado.
In conclusion. A very, very good movie and worth seeing if you are a fan of science fiction, futuristic plots, political/religious themes and full of betrayals that usually go hand in hand and of course the great effects that dazzle the screen; if you like everything I just mentioned, you will enjoy this movie as much as I did. I don't see a reason to criticize a film so well done.
8.5/10 porque me sorprendió muy gratamente para bien, no me esperaba que me fuera a gustar tanto para serles honestos. Tiene una duración de dos horas y media pero que en lo personal se me hizo super rápido, te sumerges mucho en la trama cosa que contribuye a que el tiempo no sea un factor de aburrimiento. Finalmente les dejo el tráiler para que le echen un ojo y se animen a verla, está disponible en HBO Max.
8.5/10 because I was very pleasantly surprised for the good, I did not expect to like it so much to be honest. It has a length of two and a half hours but personally I found it super fast, you get very immersed in the plot which contributes to the time is not a factor of boredom. Me gusto mucho este film excepto el final abrupto que tiene. Sentí como si la historia quedara bastante mocha pero bueh, al menos se sabe que este universo lo van a seguir expandiendo con producciones de alta calidad. Con respecto a los Oscars, ojalá pueda ganar alguno.
A mí me gustó mucho y no me extrañaría que ganara el premio a la mejor película. El aspecto visual es sobresaliente pero también tiene unos buenos contenidos como para estimular la reflexión, es un gran film. Excelente reseña estimado @javyeslava.photo. Gracias por compartir. Que estés bien.
