Clevatess is one of the new anime series of the season, and one that I consider a real surprise. Dark fantasy anime like Berserk have always appealed to me, and if they appeal to you as well, then I think you should give this one a chance. This 12-episode story features heroes and heroines, magical beasts, well-developed kingdoms, magic at its most powerful, and a philosophical, even existential, struggle to decide whether humanity is truly worth saving or should be wiped from the face of the earth. This medieval fantasy has a lot of potential; what we saw in this first season suggests that the story to come could be very interesting.

Clevatess es de las cosas nuevas de la temporada y uno que considero una verdadera sorpresa. Los anime de fantasía oscura tipo Berserk siempre me han llamado mucho la atención y si a ti también pues creo que deberías de darle una oportunidad a esto. Una historia de 12 episodios en donde veremos heroes y heroinas, bestias mágicas, reinos muy bien construidos, la hechicería en su máxima expresión y una lucha filosófica y hasta existencial para decidir si la raza humana vale realmente la pena o habría que eliminarla de la faz del mundo. Esta fantasía medieval tiene mucho potencial, lo que vimos en esta primera temporada da pie para pensar que la historia que está por venir puede ser muy interesante.

This story begins with Clevatess, a demon king, who, while in his own domain, is attacked by a group of thirteen heroes with the intention of destroying him. This attack was ordered by the King of Haiden, one of the kingdoms in this miniature world. Obviously, the mission was a failure, and all the heroes died except for Alicia, one of the heroines. Clevatess decides to revive her so that she can teach him about the human world and the weapons they use. As revenge, this demon king decides to destroy the entire kingdom of Haiden, until he encounters Luna, a baby girl whose presence completely changes his perspective and his original plan.

Esta historia comienza con Clevatess, un rey demonio quien estando en sus dominios es atacado por un grupo de trece héroes con la finalidad de aniquilarlo, todo esto por órdenes del Rey de Haiden, uno de los reinos que conforman este mini mundo. Obviamente esto fue una misión fallida y terminaron muriendo todos menos Alicia, una de las heroínas a las que Clevatess decide revivir para que esta le enseñe el mundo de los humanos y las armas que estos usan. Como retaliación esta bestia decide destruir todo el reino de Haiden, hasta que se topa a Luna, un bebé que hace que le cambie toda la perspectiva de su plan inicial.

The beast king's new plan is to try to understand humanity, and to do so he will infiltrate human society to study them. He will accomplish this with the help of Alicia, who now serves him as his minion because she possesses demonic blood and because the baby she carries represents the purest essence of humanity. Of course, as the episodes unfold, we realize that this plan is almost absurd, as humans can be quite despicable—something that Clevatess will gradually come to understand. Furthermore, Alicia also has her own motivations; along the way, she encounters the man responsible for her father's death, which reignites long-suppressed emotions and fuels her insatiable thirst for revenge.

El nuevo plan de este rey bestia es tratar de comprender y entender a la humanidad y para eso se infiltrará entre los humanos para estudiarlos, todo esto con la ayuda de Alicia, que ahora es su lacaya porque por su cuerpo corre sangre demoníaca y del bebé ya que es la esencia más pura del humano. Claro está que con el pasar de los episodios nos vamos dando cuenta de que esto es casi un sinsentido porque los humanos pueden llegar a ser despreciables cosa que Clevatess se irá dando cuenta. La cosa es que Alicia también tiene una motivación y es que en el camino que comienzan a transitar juntos se topa con el culpable de la muerte de su padre lo que hace que ella reviva sentimientos que tenía ocultos y su sed de venganza crezca desmesuradamente.

The story itself is really cool and interesting, as I already mentioned. The way they crafted the different worlds, along with their respective characters and backstories, allows for a very expansive and engaging plot. We're talking about armies and magical beasts, and legends that the protagonists are destined to fulfill—it's a combination of elements that you don't see much of these days. I think this type of anime is becoming increasingly rare. These days, the trend is more towards Isekai or solo-adventure stories like Solo Leveling, but these group-based narratives that focus on violence and existential themes are gradually disappearing.

A nivel de historia está muy cool e interesante, como ya dije, la forma en cómo armaron los mundos con sus respectivos personajes y trasfondos dan juego para que la trama sea muy extensa y entretenida. Estamos hablando de ejércitos y bestias mágicas, de leyendas que buscan a los protagonistas para ser cumplidas, es una combinación de cosas que hoy en día no se ven tantos. Este tipo de anime creo que cada vez es más complicado de encontrar, hoy en día reina más el Isekai o las aventuras en solitario tipo Solo Leveling, pero estas tramas grupales en donde lo que prima es la violencia y la existencialidad, se están perdiendo poco a poco.

The animation style is very retro; it reminds me a lot of what we saw in the 90s or early 2000s. The thing is, despite that, everything looks spectacular—the battles are great, the animation is incredibly smooth, and the characters' movements are very well done, making the whole viewing experience really cool. Because of these things, I say that this anime is very different from what's typically seen these days. The characters also have excellent character development; without exception, each one has a motivation for fighting or for carrying out whatever their plan is. There are no plot holes in that regard; everyone fights for something they believe is right, based on their own perspective. This is where the depth and existential themes I mentioned come in. There's a lot of internal debate within each character when they take an action, deliver a blow, or wield a sword; for me, that's what makes it so great, because we know we're not watching a shallow, empty story.

La animación es muy vintage, se me parece mucho a lo que se veía en los 90 o 2000, el tema es que a pesar de eso todo se ve espectacular, buenas batallas, una fluidez top y los personajes tienen movimientos muy bien logrados lo que hace que toda la experiencia sea muy cool de ver. Por estas cosas es que digo que estamos ante un anime muy diferente a lo que generalmente se consume hoy en día. Los personajes también tiene un excelente desarrollo, todos y sin excepción tienen una motivación para luchar o para llevar a cabo cualquiera que sea su plan. No hay huecos en la trama en ese sentido, todos pelean por algo que según su realidad es lo correcto. Es aquí donde entra todo lo profundo y el carácter existencial del que les hablaba, hay mucho debate interno en cada uno de ellos al momento de ejecutar una acción, de dar un golpe, al blandir una espada; eso para mi es oro porque sabemos que no estamos ante una historia vacía.

In short, I think Clevatess is a real gem of this season. I wasn't very optimistic about it, based on what I'd seen in some trailers, but it turned out to be really good. The second season has already been confirmed, which is definitely great news. I highly recommend it; fantasy, drama, violence, and action are just some of the things you'll find in this very entertaining story. I've included the trailer below.

En fin, creo que Clevatess es una muy buena joya de esta temporada. No le tenía mucha fe más allá de lo que escuchaba en algunos videos pero resultó ser muy bueno. Ya está confirmada la segunda temporada, sin dudas una buena noticia. Se los recomiendo mucho, fantasía, drama, violencia, acción son algunas de las cosas que verán en esta muy entretenida historia.
