El cuento de la criada es de las series más infravaloradas que he podido ver teniendo en cuenta lo espectacular que es o fue. Después de 6 temporadas y 8 años la historia de June en Gilead llegó a su fin la semana pasada con un capítulo del que muchos están hablando todavía. Esta última temporada estuvo marcada por la "revolución" y "rebelión" de las criadas en contra del sistema teocrático/opresor que controla Gilead, todo esto lo vimos a través de 10 episodios los cuales no dejaron indiferente a nadie. Al público le vendieron la idea de que el final sería para y por los fanáticos, creo que no fue así. Creo que lo que vimos hace unos días fue muy anticlimático y dejó más dudas que certezas.

The Handmaid's Tale is one of the most underrated series I've been able to watch considering how spectacular it is or was. After 6 seasons and 8 years June's story in Gilead came to an end last week with an episode that many are still talking about. This last season was marked by the “revolution” and “rebellion” of the maids against the theocratic/oppressive system that controls Gilead, all this we saw through 10 episodes which left no one indifferent. The public was sold the idea that the finale would be for and by the fans, I think it was not. I think what we saw a few days ago was very anticlimactic and left more doubts than certainties.

Para los que no tienen ni idea de esta serie pues para hacer el cuento bien corto se trata de un estado de facto que tomó el poder en lo que era Estados Unidos para convertirse en una teocracia que raya en el fanatismo en donde la mujer está relegada a un segundo plano. Allí ellas no tienen voz, voto, libertad, libre albedrío, nada de nada, son meros objetos para repoblar la sociedad ante la crisis de natalidad que hay y como es de esperarse para saciar otras cosas. Un "país" regido por hombres o comandantes en donde el culto a Dios es una fachada que esconde los mayores horrores que puede vivir una persona, en este caso, una mujer.

For those who have no idea about this series, to make a long story short, it is about a de facto state that took power in what was the United States to become a theocracy bordering on fanaticism where women are relegated to the background. There they have no voice, vote, freedom, free will, nothing at all, they are mere objects to repopulate society in the face of the birth crisis and as expected to satiate other things. A “country” ruled by men or commanders where the cult of God is a facade that hides the greatest horrors that a person can live, in this case, a woman.

La serie es la lucha y resistencia de estas mujeres ante los abusos de este sistema, a lo largo de las temporadas vemos como se van fraguando grupos clandestinos, contactos y apoyos dentro del mismo sistema para eventualmente dar los golpes necesarios para así ir derrumbando esos muros poco a poco. La sexta temporada estaba llamada para ser la estocada final, los movimientos finales en este tablero de ajedrez y así dar por finalizado este reino del terror. No les voy a mentir, a lo que a mi respecta este camino final se me quedó corto, es verdad que hubo grandes momentos y sobretodo grandes episodios (el noveno fue una locura, de lo mejor de toda la serie) pero al final lo que verdaderamente cuenta es la forma en como culmina todo y acá es donde está el conflicto.

The series is the struggle and resistance of these women against the abuses of this system, throughout the seasons we see how clandestine groups, contacts and support within the same system are forged to eventually give the necessary blows to bring down those walls little by little. The sixth season was called to be the final blow, the final moves on this chessboard and thus end this reign of terror. I'm not going to lie, as far as I'm concerned, this final road fell short, it is true that there were great moments and especially great episodes (the ninth was crazy, the best of the whole series) but in the end what really counts is the way everything culminates and this is where the conflict is.

Hay que decir que todo tiene una razón de ser, esta serie está basada en una novela de Margaret Atwood, del mismo nombre, que también tiene una secuela llamada "The Testaments" que pudiera explicar el por que terminó de la forma en la que lo hizo. Esta secuela será una serie la cual ya está en producción y se espera para el año que viene. La razón de ser June y de su lucha era por dos cosas primordiales, la recuperación de su hija Hannah que está en manos de esta gente en Gilead y ver caer a todos estos hombres y su sistema. Eso termina pasando? - a medias y es allí el enfado de la gente. El capítulo, final deja muchas dudas, no pasa lo que muchos esperan, hay un cambio a nivel de guión y narrativa del personaje (June) y eso no lo entendió mucha gente, me incluyo.

It must be said that everything has a reason for being, this series is based on a novel by Margaret Atwood, of the same name, which also has a sequel called “The Testaments” that could explain why it ended the way it did. This sequel will be a series which is already in production and is expected next year. The reason for June and her fight was for two main things, the recovery of her daughter Hannah who is in the hands of these people in Gilead and to see all these men and their system fall. That ends up happening? - halfway and that's where the people's anger lies. The final chapter leaves many doubts, it does not happen what many expect, there is a change in the script and narrative level of the character (June) and that was not understood by many people, including me.

Esta temporada final siento que no fue tan difícil de ver en comparación con el resto, porque si, esta es una serie en la que hay que tragar grueso y respirar hondo para poder ver ciertas cosas, es muy dura, cruel y de una crudeza inmensa. Hay personajes que terminaron como se imaginaba, otros que no tanto y eso tiene que ver con los escritores y la forma en como creyeron más conveniente que terminara todo. Mucha gente está comparando la sensación de este final de serie con el de Game Of Thrones, esa inconformidad de que no pasó lo que muchos querían que pasaran. Puedo entender el sentimiento porque si fue un final muy corto en cuanto al cierre de la trama general, es como haber nadado tanto para morir en la orilla. Muchas aspiraban a un final más explosivo y llamativo y al final nos quedamos con un cierre muy introspectivo.

This final season I feel that it was not so difficult to watch compared to the rest, because yes, this is a series in which you have to swallow thickly and take a deep breath to see certain things, it is very hard, cruel and of an immense rawness. There are characters that ended as imagined, others not so much and that has to do with the writers and the way they thought it should end. A lot of people are comparing the feeling of this series finale to Game Of Thrones, that inconformity that what many wanted to happen didn't happen. I can understand the feeling because if it was a very short ending in terms of closing the overall plot, it's like having swum so far to die on the shore. Many aspired for a more explosive and flashy ending and in the end we were left with a very introspective closure.

En general la serie fue increíble, de las mejores que he visto desde siempre, antes la ponía en mi top 3 pero por la forma en cómo cerró quizás baje al top 5. Los finales de las temporadas 4 y 5 fueron una locura, lo menos era hacer algo remotamente parecido en cuanto al fan service. Porque al final todo se resume en eso, The Handmaid's Tale no terminó para complacer a la gente sino con la visión de sus creadores. La recomiendo abiertamente, la historia es una que vale la pena ver sobretodo porque en la actualidad hay vestigios de esos sistemas alrededor del mundo, al final no es tan ficción como se cree. A esta temporada final le doy un 7/10 y a la serie en general un 8.5/10 Les dejo el tráiler por acá.

Overall the series was amazing, one of the best I've ever seen, I used to put it in my top 3 but because of the way it closed it might drop to the top 5. The endings of seasons 4 and 5 were crazy, the least they could do was to do something remotely similar in terms of fan service. Because in the end it all boils down to that, The Handmaid's Tale didn't end to please people but with the vision of its creators. I recommend it openly, the story is one that is worth watching especially because today there are vestiges of these systems around the world, in the end it is not as fiction as you think. I give this final season a 7/10 and the series in general an 8.5/10 I leave the trailer here.
