I hadn't seen this film in years and have been disappointed by nine out of ten modern films so I thought I'd watch it again.
I was surprised when it started and noticed it was directed by Michael Bay. It was his second time in the director's chair and probably his best.
We get to see Nicolas Cage in his early thirties playing a beta male FBI chemical expert.
A 65-year-old Sean Connery steals the show playing basically an old version of James Bond who stole some of America's biggest secrets and is put in prisons including Alcatraz for over thirty years for it.
It's not exactly a handing of the tourch, but the two share some funny dialogue together and made a great pair of unlikely heroes.
Nicolas Cage in a Ferrari chasing down Sean Connery in a Hummer down the streets of San Francisco is where most of the $75 million dollar budget probably went. It felt like watching Transformers before CGI was invented. Every explosion has hundreds of gallons of gasoline behind it in true Michael Bay fashion.
Ed Harris is the only believable actor on the bad guy team. After serving in the military you can spot tiny details that make the actors look like fools. The Marines in this movie are the worst.
After they steal missiles full of extremely powerful chemical weapons the disgruntled Marines turned terrorists set up shop on the famous island.
This movie is so flashy and was the hardest film I've reviewed so far when taking the screenshots.
A nerdy FBI agent and an old man battling Marines who just took out the best SEAL team is something that only would happen in Hollywood.
Despite its flaws, this still is a great flick and gave me a few laughs. It tripled its money in the box office and probably even more than double that at home. What was your favorite scene?
