Continuing with the classics, as I mentioned before, I love reminiscing, especially about those movies that shaped my youth—unforgettable classics that are definitely worth watching again.
One of those stories that grabs you right from the start—today I’m bringing you this short review of this exciting film, a classic from the ’90s, starring these great actors: Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, and Ed Harris.
🎬 THE ROCK 🎬

It all begins with a hostage situation in a prison—but not just any prison, the famous ALCATRAZ—where a group of renegade soldiers threaten to kill everyone with a toxic gas. To save these people, they have only two men: a chemist and an ex-convict, the only one who ever managed to escape from that prison.

It’s a truly thrilling movie, packed with non-stop action scenes, helicopters flying overhead, gunfire everywhere, and a charismatic—even humorous—touch. We’ll witness the partnership between these two men as they try to save these people by taking down the military, one by one.

These are legends of the film world who shaped our childhoods and teenage years. If you haven’t seen this movie, I invite you to watch it—you won’t regret it.

🎬 THE ROCK 🎬

This remains a legit solid action movie that I would give an 7.5 out of 10 because it actually has a soul under all the noise, and the chemistry between Cage and Connery is gold even when the script gives Bay an excuse to blow up something that did not need blowing up, just saying not everything has to be an explosion but hey those were the 90s too. The part that stuck with me going back to it now is the ending, Mason finally getting his freedom and leaving Goodspeed a note pointing to where the secret microfilm is buried, the whole thing hinting that the JFK assassination might have been an inside job and tying back to why Mason was locked away without a trial in the first place, it is a quiet and smart finish for a movie that spent two hours being a full on dopamine rush. This movie makes it very clear that Bay never found this level again once he disappeared into the world of giant robots and city block explosions that mean nothing to most people, this one had sharp lines and actual people you actually care or give a sht what was on the line, very Die Hard like, and that is the difference between a movie that holds up across thirty years and everything else he made after it. Those little green glass balls still look legitimately terrifying to anyone who has seen The Rock, the idea of something that turns your insides to liquid while you are still awake and trying to breathe is a hell of a way to make a threat feel real, and The Rock never lets you forget what is actually on the line the whole time you are watching it, which is why it earns every single minute it asks from you.
