It's a pleasure to be back in the #scrobblelife community with a new review. I recently saw a review here of the series The Handmaid's Tale. It piqued my curiosity because I wanted to know what it was about. I thought it wouldn't be all that great, but let me tell you, I haven't stopped watching it since. It's one of those series that once you start watching, you can't stop until you finish it completely, and I would, but my busy schedule prevents me from doing so.
I'm on episode 8 and I'm waiting for some free time so I can enjoy the entire series and finish it.
It hooked me from the first episode. You suffer alongside June as she is imprisoned after being kidnapped by a group of religious fanatics in a society that has changed its system of government and now classifies men and women according to their social rank.
I don't fully understand the background, but it seems there's an infertility crisis and births are gradually declining. That's why women of childbearing age are kidnapped to serve as procreators for the future children of the ruling class, since these upper-class women are unable to conceive. I haven't yet reached the part where they explain why these women are infertile.
The story is narrated in a very raw way by the protagonist, June, who is kidnapped and, along with a group of women who are brutally abused, fights to change the terrible situation in which they find themselves.
Throughout the plot, you feel the anguish and terror of living in fear and without being able to take control of your own life. You suffer the anguish and horror of living through situations that no woman deserves. I hope to finish watching all the episodes soon and bring you the end of this great story.
