Esta película de ciencia ficción es una adaptación de la novela de Lily Brooks-Dalton, Cielo de Medianoche y plantea el fin del mundo sin toda esa acción a la que las películas de este tipo nos tiene acostumbrados. Es una visión sosegada aunque logra mantenernos en un calmado suspenso de comienzo a fin. Puedo decir, aunque suene un poco duro, qué es más de lo mismo. Se puede sentir que ya la hemos disfrutado con diferentes actores.

Cielo de Medianoche es una película sobre la esperanza de preservar de alguna manera la raza humana dentro de la tragedia de perderlo todo al mismo tiempo. Todo esto dentro de un sostenido silencio que nos mantiene expectantes durante 2 horas y 2 minutos. Augustine (George Clooney), un científico gravemente enfermo, se encuentra prácticamente agonizando al mismo tiempo que nuestro planeta. La película se desarrolla en el círculo polar ártico donde Augustine ha estado viviendo como investigador por varios años. Durante los primeros minutos, nos encontramos frente a la desesperación y angustia por evacuar la base de parte de los pocos habitantes que aún quedan en ella. Midnight Sky is a film about the hope of somehow preserving the human race within the tragedy of losing everything at the same time. All this within a sustained silence that keeps us expectant for 2 hours and 2 minutes. The film takes place in the Arctic Circle where Augustine has been living as a researcher for several years. Te gusta el drama, ansiedad, emociones que te hagan sentir vivo y al mismo tiempo morir, esta película es ideal para ti. Augustine decide quedarse, pues sabe que su delicada condición de salud ya no le permitirá vivir mucho más.
Una vez solo en la base se percata de la presencia de una niña. Una pequeña que no habla y que sólo lo observa con sus desmesurados ojos. Augustine está aterrado, enfermo y ahora debe encargarse de esta frágil criatura que sólo lo tiene a él.
Paralelamente a esta historia, se desarrollan otras dos. Una de ellas, en una nave espacial donde un grupo de astronautas que fue enviado en una misión al espacio exterior en búsqueda de un nuevo mundo que pueda ser la esperanza para la raza humana, vive el estrés de no poder contactar a la tierra. Y la otra, relacionada con el pasado de Augustine, una vida en la cual él renuncia al amor por su carrera, se pueden imaginar su vida, cuando sabemos que el amor es lo más divino del mundo.

Cielo de Medianoche nos muestra una Tierra después del apocalipsis que no se enfoca en lo absoluto en qué o cómo se ha destruido el planeta, que es lo que estamos habituados a ver en este tipo de películas, sino que se centra en esa remota esperanza de que hay un científico, Augustine, que hará todo lo humanamente posible incluso dentro de su condición agonizante para contactar a los tripulantes de la nave espacial y hacerles llegar el mensaje de que no retornen a la Tierra porque de hacerlo enfrentarán el mismo destino que el resto de la humanidad. Ellos serán la única forma de preservar la raza humana fuera de este planeta.
Finalmente, una historia acerca de la rectitud y compromiso científico que a la vez contiene una apropiada cantidad de drama que le da a la película un sentido de realismo al representar la muerte ambiental de nuestro mundo. Esta trama y la forma en que está presentada hace que Cielo de Medianoche en todo momento esté envuelta en una atmósfera de tristeza que se logra por el ritmo de ensimismamiento que Clooney, como director, le imprime a la historia. Quieres verte reflejado en el egocentrismo y saber el nivel del mismo en ti, te la recomiendo. Te gusta el drama no te la puedes perder. Seguro verás la critica y el debate de esta película en algún lugar de la web, mientras lo dejo hasta aquí.
Midnight Sky shows us an Earth after the apocalypse that does not focus at all on what or how the planet has been destroyed, which is what we are used to seeing in this kind of movies, but focuses on that remote hope that there is a scientist, Augustine, who will do everything humanly possible even in his agonizing condition to contact the crew of the spaceship and get the message to them not to return to Earth because if they do they will face the same fate as the rest of humanity. They will be the only way to preserve the human race off this planet
Finally, a story about scientific righteousness and commitment that also contains an appropriate amount of drama that gives the film a sense of realism in depicting the environmental death of our world. This plot and the way it is presented means that Midnight Sky is at all times shrouded in an atmosphere of sadness that is achieved by the self-absorbed pace that Clooney, as director, imbues the story with. If you want to see yourself reflected in the self-centeredness and know the level of it in you, I recommend it. If you like drama, you can't miss it.
