Hello, my dear film buff friends and TV shows lovers! The other day I did an analysis about Carol Peletier (one of my three favourite characters in the show) but this time I want to analyse the greatest of the greats, the character I admire the most of the three I love (Rick, Michonne and Carol) I mean Michonne, if even after 12 years of broadcasting you like The Walking show, you will probably like this post.

El otro día hice un análisis sobre Carol Peletier (uno de mis tres personajes favoritos en la serie) pero en esta ocasión quiero analizar a la más grande entre las grandes, el personaje que más admiro de los tres que me encantan (Rick, Michonne y Carol) me refiero a Michonne, si aún después de 12 años de emisión te gusta la serie The Walking, probablemente te guste este post.

First of all I must warn you that if you haven't seen the show or read the comic but intend to do so, you will find spoilers in this post, so read at your own risk.
En primer lugar debo advertirlos de que si no han visto la serie o leído el comic pero pretenden hacerlo, en este post encontrarán spoilers, así que deben leer bajo su responsabilidad.
Like Carol, Michonne has her alter ego in The Walking Dead comic book, but Michonne's personality is not as different from her namesake as Carol's. She is a strong, bold and determined woman, not a damsel in distress, but a heroine who will always go to great lengths to defend her family and home.
Al igual que Carol, Michonne tiene su alterego dentro del comic de The Walking Dead, solo que la personalidad de Michonne no difiere tanto de su homónima como es el caso de Carol. Es una mujer fuerte, decidida, audaz y determinante, no es una damisela en peligro, sino una heroína que siempre hará hasta lo imposible por defender a su familia y su hogar.
One of the things that caught my attention when I first saw this character both in the third season of the show and in the comic, was the fact that she used the walkers (zombies) to her advantage, instead of constantly running away from them, she simply used a couple of "pets", that is, two undead whose arms and jaws she cut off with her katana so that they could not harm her, so that she would go unnoticed wherever there were hordes, as the stench of the corpses she carried with her disguised her smell. But the most interesting thing about this is that those two undead who accompanied her were none other than her husband and brother-in-law, who were drugged when their settlement was attacked by zombies and were therefore vulnerable, so they both ended up dead, zombified and to top it all off they devoured Michonne's son, so, in revenge for her ineptitude, she used them as "pets".
Una de las cosas que llamó mi atención cuando vi por primera vez este personaje tanto en la serie como en el comic, fue el hecho de que usara a los caminantes (zombies) a su favor, en lugar de huir constantemente de ellos, ella simplemente se sirvió de un par de "mascotas", es decir, dos muertos vivientes a los que le cortó los brazos y la mandíbula con su katana para que no pudieran lastimarla, de esta forma pasaba desapercibida en todos los lugares donde había hordas, ya que la pestilencia de los cadáveres que llevaba consigo disfrazaba su olor. Pero lo más interesante de esto, es que esos dos muertos vivientes que la acompañaban no eran más que su esposo y cuñado, los cuales estaban drogados cuando su asentamiento fue atacado por zombies y por lo tanto estaban vulnerables, de modo que ambos terminaron muertos, zombificados y para colmo devoraron al hijo de Michonne, por eso, en venganza por su ineptitud, ella los usó como "mascotas".
In the comic there is a particularly strong and difficult scene, I refer to the moment when she is brutally attacked and subsequently raped by Brian Blake, better known as "The Governor" (a tyrant who led a community called "Woodbury") Across the room was Glenn, terrified as he listened to Michonne being tortured by that beast. The Governor's intention was to break her but she didn't give up and in fact I loved her dialogue in the scene where he mocks her crying and she replies, "I'm not crying for me, I'm crying for you, I'm thinking about everything I'm going to do to you and it makes me cry, it scares me".
En el comic hay una escena particularmente fuerte y difícil, me refiero al momento en que ella es atacada brutalmente y posteriormente violada por Brian Blake, mejor conocido como "El Gobernador" (un tirano que lideraba una comunidad llamada "Woodbury") Al otro lado de la habitación estaba Glenn, aterrorizado mientras escuchaba a Michonne siendo torturada por esa bestia. La intención de "El Gobernador" era doblegarla pero ella no cedió y de hecho me encantó su dialogo en la escena donde él se burla de su llanto y ella le responde: "No lloro por mí, sino por ti, pienso en todo lo que voy a hacerte y eso me hace llorar, me asusta"
Indeed, once Michonne manages to break free and escape, she chased the Governor, captures him and subjects him to unimaginable tortures that I won't describe now but you can use your imagination, I'll just tell you that at that moment he may have wished he had never been born.
Efectivamente una vez que Michonne logra liberarse y escapar, persigue al Gobernador, lo captura y lo somete a torturas inimaginables que no voy a describir ahora pero pueden usar su imaginación, solo les diré que en ese momento él tal vez deseó no haber nacido jamás.
Everything happened very differently in the TV show, Michonne was never raped (fortunately) but there was a big confrontation between her and the Governor where he (as in the comic) lost an eye, and with this I'm already giving you an idea of one of the things Michonne did to him. Well, in the show, he hated her because she had sacrificed his niece, whom he kept locked up and treated normally even though the girl was dead and zombified. Michonne only dignified the little girl's memory, but the Governor took it as an affront.
Todo ocurrió de forma muy diferente en la serie de televisión, Michonne jamás fue violada (afortunadamente) pero sí hubo un gran enfrentamiento entre ella y el gobernador donde él (al igual que en el comic) perdió un ojo, y con esto ya les voy dando una idea de una de las cosas que Michonne le hizo. Bueno, en la serie, él la odiaba porque ella había sacrificado a la sobrina de él, a la cuál él mantenía encerrada y trataba con normalidad a pesar de que la niña estaba muerta y zombificada. Michonne solo dignificó la memoria de la pequeña, pero el Gobernador lo tomó como una afrenta.
Here you have the scene, strangely I couldn't find it in English (in good quality) but basically he asks Michonne not to hurt his little girl, that there is no need to hurt her, and she replies that the girl doesn't need anything anymore.
Aquí tienen la escena, extrañamente no la encontré en inglés (en buena calidad) pero básicamente él le pide a Michonne que no lastime a su niña, que no hay necesidad de hacerle daño, y ella le responde que la niña ya no necesita nada.
One of the things I loved most about this character is her great nobility, because despite being strong and having had to make very drastic decisions in life, she has a big heart, and it shows in the fact that, despite having rejected even contact with Judith (Rick's daughter) at first because she reminded him of his little son who died, he later ended up adopting her when she became Rick's partner (imagine my joy to know that two of my favourite characters would be united).
Una de las cosas que más amé de este personaje es su gran nobleza, porque a pesar de ser fuerte y haber tenido que tomar decisiones muy drásticas en la vida, tiene un gran corazón, y lo demuestra el hecho de que, a pesar de haber rechazado hasta el contacto con Judith (la hija de Rick) en un principio porque le recordaba a su pequeño hijo que murió, posteriormente terminó adoptándola cuando ella se volvió la pareja de Rick (imagínense mi alegría al saber que dos de mis personajes favoritos estarían unidos)
When Rick sadly disappears without a trace and everyone thinks he died, Michonne had to be much stronger still, she was pregnant, that is, more vulnerable and very sad for having lost her husband, but even so she didn't let herself be overcome by grief and rather took her place as leader of Alexandria (her community) and to top it all off she had to fight while pregnant (even being stabbed) when Judith was kidnapped. She did't care that the girl was not biologically hers, she was her daughter because she had assumed so, and she loved her deeply, so she didn't hesitate to go to rescue her, fortunately Daryl went with her to support her, and although they were both tortured, they achieved their goal.
Cuando Rick lamentablmente desaparece sin dejar rastro y todos piensan que murió, a Michonne le tocó ser mucho más fuerte todavía, estaba embarazada, es decir, más vulnerable y muy triste por haber perdido a su marido, pero aún así no se dejó vencer por el dolor y más bien tomó su lugar como líder de Alejandría (su comunidad) y para colmo le tocó luchar estando embarazada (siendo apuñalada incluso) cuando secuestraron a Judith. A ella no le importó que la niña no fuese biologicamente suya, era su hija porque lo había asumido así, y la amaba profundamente, así que no dudó en ir a rescatarla, afortunadamente Daryl fue con ella para apoyarla, y aunque ambos fueron torturados, lograron su objetivo.
The hardest part of that moment, however, was not that she had to face armed men, hordes of walkers or any other threat, but that she had to make the terrible and difficult decision to murder children, she simply had no choice, they tried to harm her and she didn't even think of herself, but of the baby in her womb. It was a hard moment for her and surely for anyone who would have been in her place.
Sin embargo lo más difícil de ese momento, no fue haber tenido que enfrentarse a hombres armados, hordas de caminantes o cualquier otra amenaza, sino que tuvo que tomar la terrible y difícil decisión de asesinar niños, simplemente no tuvo otra alternativa, ellos intentaron hacerle daño y ella ni siquiera pensó en sí misma, sino en el bebé que estaba en su vientre. Fue un momento duro para ella y seguramente para cualquier persona que hubiera estado en su lugar.
She begged them to stop but the children had their minds too manipulated in the name of evil. The scene, while shocking, was very well done because, even though we knew exactly what was happening, the moment of the children's death was replaced by a clip of Michonne killing walkers.
Ella les rogaba que se detuvieran pero los niños tenían sus mentes demasiado manipuladas en funsión del mal. La escena, aunque fue chocante, estuvo muy bien lograda ya que, aunque sabíamos perfectamente lo que estaba sucediendo, el momento de la muerte de los niños fue sustituido por un clip de Michonne matando caminantes.
But not only do we see Michonne in her role as leader and protector of the community, we also see her as a mother, and I particularly loved that she instructed her daughter Judith in the handling of weapons, especially the katana (her speciality) as this made her less vulnerable, and her training has served her well on more than one occasion.
Pero no solo vemos a Michonne en su rol de líder y protectora de la comunidad, también la vemos como madre, y pues yo particularmente amé que ella instruyera a su hija Judith en el manejo de las armas, sobre todo la katana (su especialidad) ya que de esta forma la niña se hacía menos vulnerable, y su entrenamiento le ha servido en más de una ocasión.
Both of Michonne's children, RJ (her biological son) and Judith (her adopted daughter) have grown up without distinction of any kind, loved equally and educated in every way, both academically (reading, writing, drawing) and in the handling of weapons.
Ambos hijos de Michonne, RJ (su hijo biológico) y Judith (su hija adoptada) han crecido sin distinción de ningún tipo, amados por igual y educados en todos los sentidos, tanto en materia académica (leer, escribir, dibujar) como en el manejo de armas.
It's important to clarify that I like Michonne's character much more in the series, since in the comic, when she arrives in the Commonwealth, she seems to be dazzled by the idea of finding a place that seems to have survived the onslaught of the pandemic, maintaining the same system as before the fall, In this way she manages to practice again as a lawyer, and even as a judge, and seems to have adapted to the community in such a way that she seems very comfortable and has no intention of opposing the system, which in itself is quite elitist, classist and therefore unfair, with a large gap between rich and poor.
Es importante aclarar que el personaje de Michonne me gusta mucho más en la serie, ya que en el comic, cuando ella llega a la Commonwealth, parece deslumbrarse con la idea de encontrar un lugar que parece haber sobrevivido los embates de la pandemia, manteniendo el mismo sistema de antes de la caída, de esta forma ella logra ejercer nuevamente como abogada, e incluso como juez, y parece haberse adaptado de tal forma a la comunidad que se le ve muy cómoda y sin intenciones de revelarse al sistema que de por sí es bastante elitista, clasista y por lo tanto injusto, con una gran brecha entre ricos y pobres.
In the TV show it was Yumiko who took her place in the commonwealt, as Michonne had left in search of Rick because she never resigned herself to thinking that he was dead, since she never saw his corpse. Oh, and in the comic who took Michonne's place was Andrea, a character who in the show died in Woodbury practically at the hands of The Governor.
En la serie de televisión fue Yumiko quien tomó su lugar en la commonwealt, ya que Michonne se había marchado en busca de Rick porque nunca se resignó a pensar que el había muerto, debido a que jamás vio su cadáver. Ah! y en el comic quien tomó el lugar que tiene Michonne en la serie fue Andrea, personaje que a su vez en la serie murió en Woodbury practicamente a manos de El Gobernador.
That's right, the Michonne I know in the show and admire so much, would never adapt to the comforts of a place, let alone a class system, but would fight to change it.
Así es, la Michonne que conozco en la serie y que tanto admiro, jamás se adaptaría a las comodidades de un lugar y mucho menos a un sistema clasista, sino que lucharía por cambiarlo.
Robert Kirkman (creator of the comic and scriptwriter of the series) definitely did a great job in the construction of this character, as she is very human and realistic, she is not the typical perfect heroine, but a woman of flesh and blood who has had to face the life she was given, making difficult decisions, and of course Danai Gurira, the actress who plays this wonderful character, also did a great job, demonstrating all her histrionic skills.
Definitivamente Robert Kirkman (creador del comic y guionista de la serie) hizo un gran trabajo en la construcción de este personaje, ya que es muy humano y realista, no es la típica heroína perfecta, sino una mujer de carne y hueso que ha tenido que enfrentarse a la vida que le tocó, tomando decisiones difíciles, y desde luego Danai Gurira, la actriz que interpreta a este maravilloso personaje, también hizo un estupendo trabajo, demostrando todas sus habilidades histriónicas.
I'm looking forward to the Rick movie, where we'll possibly see Michonne again, and understand what happened to her character, if she managed to reunite with her husband.
Estoy esperando con ansias que salga la película de Rick, donde posiblemente podremos volver a ver a Michonne, y así entender qué sucedió con su personaje, si logró reencontrarse con su esposo.
