Yes, I am aware of being late to the topic of the week, but I decided to share it anyway, because I didn't want this to remain in the inkwell of oblivion.
What happened? Well, I was looking for a movie in my memories that was not one of those that everyone remembers, and time passed, until I came across one of the movies that I not only loved, but that marked for me a difference with respect to the filmography of Keannu Reeves.
In this piece we don't see him running, shooting, attacking or defending himself.... here we see the other side, that of a normal man who stumbles upon life head on and teaches him how it should be lived and not survived.
The film is the second adaptation of the screenplay written by Herman Raucher: His first film appearance was in 1968, directed by Robert Ellis Miller and starring Sandy Dennis and Anthony Newley, who plays the same character as Reeves did for the version released in 2004, in which he shares roles with Charlize Theron. ***
The plot begins as just another story of a successful young man amid the chaos of the big city. Here, Reeves is a publicist who needs to renew his driver's license and takes the routine test, meeting Theron during the process, when he decides to copy her and they are surprised by whoever is monitoring the test.
This "chance" of destiny, leads him to live a great adventure that will change his vision of life completely. He will go from being dominated by schedules and technology, to fully dedicate himself to live as if every day was his last, next to Sara, the character played by Theron.
What I love about the whole story is to see how Reeves even strips himself of all the stereotypes that his other characters have created for him. He is presented as a real man, one of those that you could find in any cafe or on public transportation, with his fears and personal dramas, which in the other films are blurred by the actions of the script.
It is a subtle way to put us in their shoes and evaluate what we are really doing with our lives and how far we let ourselves be carried away by routines or social impositions. In my opinion, it is a thoughtful film, beyond the romance that is present in much of the film.
Reeves repeats this romantic pattern in another film called "La Casa del Lago" a couple of years later, and although I also liked it a lot, I'll stay with Sweet November, for its background and the teaching in different senses that it had for me when I saw it, and that I bring to my mind whenever I feel overwhelmed by the things of everyday life.
Only a month was enough for Reeves to reinvent himself, but this film gives you a couple of hours to leave you thinking for a long time about what you are doing with your life.

Que fue lo que pasó? pues que buscando en los recuerdos alguna película que no me resultara de las que comunmente todos recuerdan, se me pasó el tiempo, hasta que llegó a mi una de las películas que no solo me encantó, sino que marcó para mi una diferencia con respecto a la filmografía de Keannu Reeves.
En esta pieza no lo vemos correr, disparar, atacar o defenderse... aquí vemos el otro lado, el de un hombre normal que se tropieza con la vida de frente y lo enseña a cómo debe ser vivida y no sobrevivida.
La cinta es la segunda adaptación del guión escrito por Herman Raucher: Su primera aparición en el cine fue en 1968, dirigida por Robert Ellis Miller y protagonizada por Sandy Dennis y Anthony Newley, quien interpreta el mismo personaje que hizo Reeves para la versión estrenada en 2004, en la que comparte roles con Charlize Theron.

Lo que me encanta de toda la historia, es ver como Reeves se va despojando inclusive de todos los estereotipos que le han creado sus otros personajes. Se presenta como un hombre real, de esos que pudieras encontrarte en cualquier café o en el transporte público, con sus temores y dramas personales, que en los demás filmes se desdibujan por las acciones propias del guión.
Es una manera sutil de colocarnos en sus zapatos y evaluar lo que realmente estamos haciendo con nuestras vidas y hasta donde nos dejamos llevar por las rutinas o las imposiciones sociales. A mi parecer, es un film reflexivo, más allá del romance que está presente en gran parte de la película.
Reeves repite este patrón romántico en otra cinta llamada "La Casa del Lago" un par de años después, y aunque también me gustó mucho, me quedo con Sweet November, por su trasfondo y la enseñanza en diferentes sentidos que tuvo para mi cuando la ví, y que traigo a mi mente siempre que me siento abrumada por las cosas del día a día.
Solo un mes le bastó a Reeves para reinventarse, pero este film te da un par de horas para dejarte pensando un buen tiempo sobre lo que estás haciendo con tu vida.
