En la vida acaso llegamos a ponernos realmente en los zapatos del otro al 100%?
Este fue el primer pensamiento que me vino cuando Touka, una de las protagonistas de Tokio Ghoul tiene su primer encuentro con Kaneki Ken, luego de su involuntaria conversión a Ghoul.
Para empezar, necesitamos un poco de contexto. Kaneki es un chico universitario que gusta de Rize, a quien invita a salir, en medio de una ciudad ¿azotada? por la presencia de unos seres con aspecto humano, pero que se alimentan de personas y tienen poderes especiales.
El resultado fue que Rize era uno de esos seres, y al querer comerse a Kaneki, la caída de unas vigas hacen que Rize muera y él quede herido, por lo que deciden intervenirlo y hacer un transplante de algunos órganos de ella, lo cual genera que al despertar de la operación, él presente ciertos cambios que al final demuestran que ha pasado hacer mitad humano, mitad ghoul.
De ahí en más, la historia se desarrolla de una manera fascinante, mostrándonos la realidad desde el otro lado de la historia, puesto que de principio tomamos partida por los humanos, desconociendo las razones de los ghouls para comportarse de tal manera.
Me resultó realmente inspirador ver cómo muestran su punto de vista y las razones de su comportamiento, además de hacerme pensar en que en la vida real, es mucho lo que desconocemos de otras culturas, tomando nuestro pequeño micromundo como si fuera la realidad de todos los seres humanos.
Inclusive, en algún punto de la trama, asoman una posible solución pacífica, que no es tomada en cuenta por quienes son los responsables de mantener el orden dentro del caos que se genera, creando más bien, un conflicto mayor.
La evolución del personaje de Kaneki es casi llevada de la mano de un psicólogo y no de un guionista. Ver en lo que se convierte debido a sus temores, la ira, y el verse inmerso entre dos mundos: humano y ghoul, nos demuestra que ante ciertos estímulos somos capaces de reaccionar de maneras inexplicables.
Toda la serie se basa en la lucha de los dos bandos por la sobrevivencia: es una guerra declarada en la que muchos personajes toman ventaja para sus intereses particulares, tal y como pasa en la vida real.
El valor de la amistad y la familia, están presentes todo el tiempo. También las luchas entre ellos por el sistema de valores y principios.
Al final, aunque nacieran ghoul, se comportan como cualquier sociedad humana. Inclusive, esos lazos que se forman por afinidad los presentan de tal forma, que si no los ves en acción, dudarías que son diferentes.
Un personaje que me llamó mucho la atención fue Shū Tsukiyama, apodado el "Gourmet", pues el cambio radical de sus intenciones de comerse a Kaneki, (Si! entre Ghouls existe el canibalismo) al principio me resultó poco racional y creíble. Pero luego de una segunda lectura, entendí que cuando quieres estar con alguien, buscas la manera, así sea pasando de la obsesión a la alianza, todo por estar cerca.
El final? Pues no les diré, tienen que verla! Lo que si adelanto es que a pesar de las diferencias, y de los referentes que puedan tener los demás con respecto a una minoría, el sentido de supervivencia siempre está presente en cada organismo, y la actuación de ellos es la prueba de que los estereotipos no siempre nos dan una visión objetiva de las cosas.
Más allá de la sangre y las escenas de acción, este anime originado del manga de Sui Ishida, es una obra para ver más de una vez, pues tiene tantas lecturas más allá de ser una serie para sentarse y consumir sin mucho análisis.
Do we ever really get to walk in someone else's shoes 100% in life?
This was the first thought that came to me when Touka, one of the protagonists of Tokyo Ghoul, has her first encounter with Kaneki Ken, after his involuntary conversion to Ghoul.
To start, we need a little context. Kaneki is a college student who likes Rize, whom he invites out, in the middle of a city plagued by the presence of human-like beings who feed on people and have special powers.
The result was that Rize was one of those beings, and when she tried to eat Kaneki, the fall of some beams caused Rize to die and he was injured, so they decided to intervene and transplant some of her organs, which caused him to present certain changes when he woke up from the operation, which in the end showed that he had become half human, half ghoul.
From then on, the story develops in a fascinating way, showing us reality from the other side of the story, since at the beginning we take sides with humans, unaware of the reasons for ghouls to behave in such a way.
I found it really inspiring to see how they show their point of view and the reasons for their behavior, as well as making me think that in real life, there is a lot that we do not know about other cultures, taking our small microcosm as if it were the reality of all human beings.
Even at some point in the plot, a possible peaceful solution appears, which is not taken into account by those who are responsible for maintaining order within the chaos that is generated, creating rather a greater conflict.
Kaneki's character evolution is almost taken by the hand of a psychologist and not by a screenwriter. Seeing what he becomes due to his fears, anger, and being immersed in two worlds: human and ghoul, shows us that we are capable of reacting in inexplicable ways to certain stimuli.
The whole series is based on the struggle of the two sides for survival: it is a declared war in which many characters take advantage for their own personal interests, just as it happens in real life.
The value of friendship and family is present all the time. Also the struggles between them for the system of values and principles. In the end, although they were born ghouls, they behave like any human society. Even, those bonds that are formed by affinity are presented in such a way, that if you do not see them in action, you would doubt that they are different.
A character who caught my attention a lot was Shū Tsukiyama, nicknamed the "Gourmet", because the radical change in his intentions to eat Kaneki, (Yes! Cannibalism exists among Ghouls) at first seemed irrational and unbelievable to me. But after a second reading, I understood that when you want to be with someone, you look for a way, even if it means going from obsession to alliance, all to be close.
The end? I won't tell you, you have to see it! What I do advance is that despite the differences, and the references that others may have with respect to a minority, the sense of survival is always present in each organism, and the performance of them is the proof that stereotypes do not always give us an objective vision of things.
Beyond blood and action scenes, this anime originating from the manga by Sui Ishida, is a work to see more than once, because it has so many readings beyond being a series to sit down and consume without much analysis.
