I've been a fan of lioness, and I've followed the previous seasons over the years. Season 3 just ended and I loved every bit of it.
This season is characterized with a lot of suspense and nervy moments. It gave a lot to look forward to, and I'm happy to delve into it.
Season 3 started with the best opening I've ever watched. It was filled with action. If you're a fan of military drills, gun fights and top notch action, you're going to love the way this season of lioness started.
The season started with an extraction. The lioness team, in collaboration with the US military force in Ukraine tried to extract a top russian criminal boss. They succeeded, but my delight is in the way they did it.
They were ruthless, there were dogs, drones. It's the typical representation of modern warfare. I kept wondering how many times they had to redo the scenes and drills to get it right.
This season of lioness just tells the amount of work put into it by the actors and those behind the scenes. The hard work is visible to see.
In this season of lioness, the unexpected happens. Joe, who is a senior case officer and the head of the lioness team is kidnapped in front of her own home. This spirals into a lot of chaos.
I mean, who would be stupid enough to kidnap someone of Joe's rank on US soil? The search for Joe becomes intense. It like a race.
The kidnappers keep moving Joe from place to place and the ultimate plan is to get her out of the country. On the other hand, the authorities are doing everything they can get her back before she's smuggled out of the country.
Initially, it was believed that this act was a retaliatory action by the Russians for the extraction of their own person prior. But then it turns out this was far from that. A lot of tables were turned, a lot of secrets were uncovered. Espionage was exposed. It was revealed how powerful individuals in the US were being blackmailed and were under the control of foreign spies.
After all the chaos, it was becoming clear that this wasn't just an ordinary act. It was vindictive. Like a personal grievance.
I'll be honest, I was beginning to lose hope that Joe would ever be found. One several occasions, their team was close to finding her but they kept missing her.
One thing I love about this season of the show is how the various agencies collaborated to ensure that Joe was found. Every cop in was alerted at some point on what to watch out for.
I was even more impressed by Kyle's performance. He was ready to turn the world upside down for Joe. He went to extreme lengths, he didn't rest. I guess it was because he knew what Joe would face if somehow she is moved out of the country. It would be catastrophic for both Joe and the US government.
Joe suffered in the hands of her captors but thankfully, she was rescued, and in a dramatic fashion. Her team swooped in and wiped out the men who took her.
This whole saga does not come without consequences. One thing that was hugely affected was Joe's family. Her husband Neal (who has been very understanding by the way) went through a lot.
He found out his wife was kidnapped and he couldn't say anything about it. He wasn't allowed to. All he knew was that the authorities were working to get her back.
He couldn't even tell his daughters that their mother was kidnapped. He has to pretend and lie to them. To the kids, their mom was at work doing some secret mission as usual. Joe makes the mistake of not running back to her family immediately she is rescued, and when she eventually goes home, she finds out her family has moved away. It was really heartbreaking watching Joe realize that she has lost her family.
This season kept going back and forth between the past and the present. It was confusing at fist but with time I started getting the hang of it.
This season ended in a cliffhanger. The ending is one that shocked me and got me excited. I spent all season wondering who the mole is only to be shocked in the end. I'm looking forward to what the next season holds.
Zoe Saldana and Nicole Kidman were excited this season, as usual.
