When I first saw the title of this week's CineTV contest, I thought I wouldn't be able to write anything. Not that I don't like science-fiction. I do. But it's not on my top 10 list of genres to watch if I have a choice.

However, there are a few exceptions. Spectacular movies like Alien(s), Predator, Terminator...etc. They all fall under my 'likes'. It would be the kind of movie I'd go see in the cinema but if I had to miss it, then I'd have no issue watching them on TV later.

When I thought about the contest again, I came up with one movie that would be worth a mention because I absolutely loved it. However, @stickupboys beat me to it with their contest entry with 'Starship Troopers'. I'm a Paul Verhoeven fan, and this movie is an absolute favorite by this director. But this is not the movie I ended up choosing.

A little bit too late to the party to make thw contest entry deadline...Nevertheless I want to participate writing about my favorite here.

What it is about?

Well, for those who haven't seen it: You're missing out. The storyline was something unique for its time.

Jake, who is wheelchair bound, is sent on a mission to replace his twin brother. With the progressive invention, the Avatar, he can now live as a native on planet Pandora, and do everything his healthy self could do and more...

After encounters with the natives of the planet, he will have to make a few tough choices. What will he choose?

What did I love?

I loved the world they portrayed in this movie the most. The natives who were so close to nature, and lived with it in harmony. When I watched this movie, I wanted to live there too! Amazing animations make this wonderful dream world come to life, with beautiful plants, scary creatures, and stunning scenes. The movie is truly a feast for the eyes!

How has it influenced me?

Well, I was always quite conscious about how we should care for our planet. This movie has really rubbed our faces in that once again, I feel. It's a reminder that we need to be a bit nicer to our planet and all its inhabitants, flora and fauna...

The one scene that I remember the most...

is the scene in which Jake pulls a trick to tame a leonopteryx (similar to a dragon), and does so successfully. It was quite an impressive moment.

I also loved the scene with Sigourney Weaver and the tree...but I won't give too much away here.

How about the actors?

Of course, Sigourney Weaver played her role with brilliance, even though she didn't have the main character role. She never disappoints, whether she played her human character (Dr. Grace Augustine) or her Avatar (which is mainly animated).

I believe Sam Worthington was doing a great job. It was really the first big role I've seen him in, so it was well done but not the most impressive.

Favorite in the movie was Zoe Zaldana (Neytiri) for me. Lots of animation in her role, as she is a native, but the emotions she showed, and her fierceness as a warrior were absolutely brilliant.

Giovannie Ribisi did quite well as a baddy. He's one of my all time favorite actors but usually he has different kinds of roles. He seems to be able to make anything work. From Phoebe's little brother who's not one of the brightest, to con-man Sneaky Pete, and soldier in Saving Private Ryan, he's making it all believable with his versatility. He's an underrated actor if you ask me!

All in all, the acting was superb overall. There wasn't one actor that didn't do a great job. Of course, this was to be expected in a James Cameron movie!

Conclusion

The movie Avatar is something you just have to have seen if you like movies with great animation, some spectacle, and an amazing storyline. I know its budget was one of the highest ever and that is very visible. Amazing work! There's just no other words to describe it, and I am very much looking forward to the new Avatar movie coming out later this year. It will be one I'm going to see in the cinema theatre for sure! If I had to give it a rating, it'd be 10 out of 10. Maybe even 11 out of 10. I've only seen it about 5 times...

I guess you can safely say that I LOVE this movie!
