Es una película de animación stop-motion, de comedia negra y suspenso. Su trama gira en torno a tres historias cuya única relación es la casa donde habitan, en periodos de tiempo distintos. Fue producida para Netflix por Nexus Studio, se estreno en la plataforma a principios de 2022 recibiendo criticas favorables.
Contexto
Capitulo I: Mabel, una niña del periodo de los 1800 juega con su casa de muñecas cuando un llegan visitas, son familiares lejanos que tiene una pésima relación con su padre, ya que este es menos exitoso que ellos, al irse en la noche, este enojado por el desprecio de su familia se hunde en el autodesprecio y la bebida, sale a orinar a media noche, alli un hombre aparece de la nada y comienzan a hablar. Mas tarde este llega a casa con una actitud extraña y se queda dormido en la mesa de la cocina. Al día siguiente el asistente del hombre desconocido, un arquitecto y artista reconocido,quiere cambia su humilde casa por una mansión, solo a cambio de que ellos vivan alli. La señora del lugar se siente desconfiada pero sede ante la emoción de su esposo.
La mudanza es casi inmediata, pero el asistente, Sr. Thomas, se comporta raro al verlos llegar con equipaje, ya que el lugar esta todo amueblado y el artista es algo quisquilloso con sus obras. Todo en el lugar es perfecto y los adultos están tan complacidos que parecen hipnotizado por la belleza de su nueva vida. En la noche Mabel va adormir con su hermanita mientras los padres se quedan disfrutando en la sala, la mama con su nueva maquina de coser y el papa con la chimenea que no funciona como esperaba. Al día siguiente la niña se levanta asustada, al ver por la ventana de su cuarto alguien esta remodelando la casa, al bajar descubre que las escaleras no están y el Sr. Thomas, en la planta baja, tiene un pequeño colapso nervioso. Parece que el arquitecto no a terminado con la casa. Mabel encuentra a su madre que no dormido en casi toda la noche, obsesionada por coser, ella le informa los cambios, esta no esta en condiciones así que manda a la pequeña con su padre.
Al explorar la casa, la niña sigue encontrando personas cambiando la estructura de esta, todos se detiene apenas la ven pasar, cuando llega con su padre este ve desde la ventana como destruyen su antiguo hogar, parece feliz por ellos aunque la niña no tanto. En la cena, el artista tiene una solicitud para la pareja, que usen unos trajes especiales que asemejan muebles del lugar, ellos aceptan encantados, aunque la niña les dice que parecen bufones, por lo cual es castigada por su comentario. Ella y su hermana bebe, encuentran las cosas de su antiguo hogar en el sótano, así que se quedan un tiempo alli hasta que a la bebe le da hambre, al salir la casa cambiado demasiado y aparece un laberinto.
El padre obsesionado por la chimenea comienza a quemar sus viejos muebles para hacer fuego, las niñas al subir ven al Sr. Thomas que esta en pánico, resulta que él es un actor y el propietario lo obliga a estar alli, ambas siguen su camino buscando una salida. Los padres de las niñas se han convertido en muebles de la casa y el artista ríe inquietantemente, ellos le piden a sus hijas huir mientras el fuego de la chimenea se extiende por el lugar. Al final las niñas salen de la casa y ven las cenizas del hogar.
Capitulo II: Una rata que es agente inmobiliario, se encargar de remodelar una casa, ya solo le falta la cocina por eso decide hacerlo el mismo, esta en números rojos y necesita vender la casa para reponerse. Al llegar el nuevo día, esta todo casi listo para la demostración así que llama a su esposa para hablarle de sus futuros planes, durante eso escucha ruidos extraños de uno de los cajones de la cocina, al abrirlo descubre una colmena de escarabajos, este asqueado procede a fumigar y rociar veneno por todo el lugar. Pensando que acabo con la plaga comienza a prepararse para el evento, este rápidamente se vuelve un desastre y los escarabajos vuelven. Sin embargo, una pareja inquietante esta interesada en el lugar, el roedor se emociona hasta que estas ratas deciden instalarse en la casa sin aviso.
Al inicio él es condescendiente con la excéntrica pareja, pero la situación se vuelve insostenible y para el colmo tiene problemas con su esposa y las cuentas del banco. Llama a la policía para que saque a este par criminal, cuando aparecen no es por el dúo sino por él mismo, resulta que él no esta casado o algo parecido, y todas las llamadas de amor iban para su dentista, que lo denuncio por acoso. Las ratas se adueñan del lugar e invitan al resto de su familia, esto le provoca un ataque te pánico que lo manda al hospital, al salir esta familia de ratas lo espera, esta vez no se opone sino de une a ellos para habitar la casa como un roedor, despojándose de su cordura en el proceso.
Capitulo III: Una inundación arraso con un poblado entero, solo queda un edificio fuera del agua, un complejo de apartamentos que le pertenece a Rosa, una gata que se niega a rendirse con el lugar. Con la inundación se fueron casi todos sus huéspedes, solo quedan 2, Jen una mujer muy espiritual y Elías, un chico algo ingenuo, aun así Rosa tiene planes para remodelar el edificio y así traer nuevos clientes que paguen mejor, ya que sus únicos inquilinos pagan con piedras y pescados.
No importa que haga Rosa para arreglar el lugar siempre empeora, y el agua amenaza con alcanzar el edificio. Un día parece otro gato, Cosmos, en un bote, él es un gurú espiritual y amigo de una de las huéspedes, este solo esta de paso mientras la neblina baja, él y Rosa no se llevan bien a pesar de que todos lo aman, pero este le ofrece ayuda con la casa, lo que alegra a la gata.
En la noche los cuatro hacen una fiesta para celebrar y se drogan, cuando amanece Rosa ve que Cosmos comenzó con las reparaciones, pero realmente solo levando el piso para fabricarle un bote a Elias, que quiere abandonar el lugar. La niebla toma el edificio, Rosa comienza a tener alucinaciones y recuerdos mientras escapa. Cuando sale, es la única en la casa, los otros se fueron y la esperan en el agua, esto la impulsa a usar el invento de Elias, que destruye parte de la casa pero le permite salir. Ahora ella es libre con sus amigos.
Análisis y Opinión
Recuerdo que la primera película stop-motion que vi fue Wallace & Gromo: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, era pequeña y no entendía como era posible. Sin embargo, me dejo totalmente cautivada, este estilo se volvió algo artístico y bello para mi, de una manera nostálgica, y se que otros sienten lo mismo al ver este uso de la animación. Asi que este Filme dio justo en el punto, usando este estilo tan maravilloso.
La animación sin duda es excepcional, muchos la describen como un trio de historias inquietantes, y de verdad lo es, las tramas dan esa sensación y la animación lo realza. Te deja en un estado de incomodidad e interés constante, sabes que las cosas no están bien y quieres seguir para averiguar la razón. Aunque cada historia se centra en la casa, y ese es el tema que mueve la trama, cada una de ellas esta llena de mensajes distintos.
El primer corto, podemos describirlo como un critica al capitalismo o al dinero fácil, en ocasiones no apreciamos lo que tenemos y estamos en una búsqueda frecuente de mas. Esto puede hacer que tomemos malas decisiones, que nos hagan perdernos a nosotros mismos ¿En que punto dejamos de ser personas y nos volvimos objetos de una sociedad consumista?
El segundo corto, creo que este es el mas raro en el contexto claro, pero va de lo que aparentamos y lo que somos en realidad, y como al final esa verdad aflora. Asi como el ratón que actuaba muy lejos de lo que es, hasta termina rindiéndose a su verdadero ser.
El ultimo capitulo, es sobre la zona de confort, como nos aferramos a ella y a nuestro pasado para evitar avanzar, aunque ello nos este destruyendo y dejarlo sea nuestra única opción. Es normal tener miedo y mas si es sobre lo desconocido, pero esto no nos puede retener para siempre, en ocasiones el paso mas lógico es el mas difícil, aunque gracias a el podemos, liberarnos y seguir hacia el futuro. Creo que esta fue mi historia favorita, ciertamente me sentí identificada con la protagonista y su situación.
Mi recomendación es que la vean y saquen sus propias conclusiones, es una experiencia que sin duda no la lamentaran, es muy interesante y te sumerge en la historia.

Context

At dinner, the artist has a request for the couple, that they wear special costumes that resemble furniture from the place, they gladly accept, although the girl tells them that they look like buffoons, for which she is punished for her comment. She and her baby sister find things from their old home in the basement, so they stay there for a while until the baby gets hungry, when they leave the house changed too much and a labyrinth appears.
The father obsessed with the fireplace starts burning his old furniture to make a fire, the girls go upstairs and see Mr. Thomas who is in a panic, it turns out he is an actor and the owner forces him to be there, they both continue on their way looking for a way out. The girls' parents have become furniture in the house and the artist laughs ominously, they ask their daughters to flee as the fire in the fireplace spreads through the place. At the end the girls leave the house and see the ashes of the hearth.
Chapter II: A rat who is a real estate agent, is in charge of remodeling a house, he only needs the kitchen so he decides to do it himself, he is in the red and needs to sell the house to get back on his feet. When the new day arrives, everything is almost ready for the show so he calls his wife to tell her about his future plans, during that he hears strange noises from one of the kitchen drawers, when he opens it he discovers a hive of beetles, this disgusted he proceeds to fumigate and spray poison all over the place. Thinking he's done with the plague, he begins to prepare for the event, which quickly turns into a disaster and the beetles return. However, a disturbing couple is interested in the place, the rodent is thrilled until these rats decide to move into the house without warning.
At first he is condescending to the eccentric couple, but the situation becomes untenable and to make matters worse he has problems with his wife and bank accounts. He calls the police to remove this criminal pair, when they show up it is not for the duo but for himself, it turns out that he is not married or anything like that, and all the love calls were going to his dentist, who denounced him for harassment. The rats take over the place and invite the rest of his family, this causes a panic attack that sends him to the hospital, when he leaves this family of rats is waiting for him, this time he does not oppose but joins them to inhabit the house as a rodent, stripping himself of his sanity in the process.
Chapter III: A flood swept away an entire village, only one building is left out of the water, an apartment complex that belongs to Rosa, a cat who refuses to give up on the place. With the flood almost all her guests are gone, only 2 are left, Jen, a very spiritual woman and Elias, a somewhat naive boy, even so Rosa has plans to remodel the building to bring in new clients who pay better, since her only tenants pay with stones and fish.

This angers Rosa who argues with Elias, he tells her his reasons for leaving and recommends her to do the same, both are on bad terms, when Elias leaves without saying goodbye it affects Rosa a little, and she discovers that there are things about the cat that she never knew, like that he was a good artist.
Before leaving, the boy leaves her an escape system, in case at some point she is brave enough to leave the place, Rosa refuses to talk about the flood, even though she is already entering the house, she is afraid of what is outside. Analysis and Opinion
I remember the first stop-motion movie I saw was Wallace & Gromo: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, I was little and didn't understand how it was possible. However, I was totally captivated, this style became something artistic and beautiful for me, in a nostalgic way, and I know that others feel the same when they see this use of animation. So this film hit the spot, using this wonderful style.
The animation is without a doubt exceptional, many describe it as a trio of haunting stories, and it really is, the plots give that feeling and the animation enhances it. It leaves you in a state of discomfort and constant interest, you know things are not right and you want to keep going to find out the reason. Although each story focuses on the house, and that is the theme that drives the plot, each of them is full of different messages.
The first short, we can describe it as a criticism of capitalism or easy money, sometimes we do not appreciate what we have and we are in a frequent search for more. This can make us make bad decisions that make us lose ourselves. At what point did we stop being people and became objects of a consumerist society?
The second short, I think this is the strangest in the context of course, but it is about what we look like and what we really are, and how in the end that truth emerges. Just like the mouse that acted very far from what it is, until it ends up surrendering to its true self.
The last chapter is about the comfort zone, how we cling to it and to our past to avoid moving forward, even though it is destroying us and leaving it is our only option. It is normal to be afraid and more if it is about the unknown, but this can not hold us forever, sometimes the most logical step is the most difficult, but thanks to it we can free ourselves and move into the future. I think this was my favorite story, I certainly felt identified with the protagonist and her situation.
My recommendation is that you watch it and draw your own conclusions, it is an experience that you will not regret, it is very interesting and immerses you in history.
