La dirección es muy buena por recrear completamente el ambiente de ese tipo de programas lo que considero más que incómodo porque estaba convencido que Kelly posiblemente creó a un personaje y un mundo que pudiera funcionar y atraer a gran público infantil; justamente esa manera de recrear canciones, bailes y lo colorido de la escenografías, es lo que contrarresta al momento de ocurrir situaciones muy malas, lo cual también es divertido aunque me gustaría que fuese más carituresco o gore de lo que son esas escenas. Cabe destacar que la película no se desarrolla del todo en el mundo de Buddy, pero de igual manera la influencia o la sensación de estar atrapado en un show televisivo nunca se pierde.
The direction is excellent at fully recreating the atmosphere of that kind of show, which I find more than a little uncomfortable because I was convinced that Kelly might have created a character and a world that could work and appeal to a large children’s audience; it’s precisely that way of recreating songs, dances, and the colorful sets that provides a counterbalance when really bad situations arise—which is also fun, though I’d like those scenes to be more cartoonish or gory than they actually are. It’s worth noting that the movie doesn’t take place entirely in Buddy’s world, but even so, the influence—or the feeling of being trapped in a TV show—is never lost.
Las actuaciones son más que correctas, los actores infantiles hacen una buena interpretación de niños que primeramente están en un mundo de fantasía y que apesar de parecer que todo es normal, de igual manera tanto su comportamiento, curiosidad e inquietudes salen a flote siendo esas características los motivos del peligro que deberán enfrentar; ese descubrimiento los convierte en las víctimas perfectas, ya que su inexperiencia y el estar en un lugar donde pareciera no haber escapatoria, es lo que genera buenos momento de terror. Me pareció genial la interpretación de buscar normalidad siendo completamente vulnerables a cualquier peligro y más cuando son simplemente niños que están solos enfrentando un mundo enfermo; creo que la manera en como están escritos estos perdones y su interpretación es los puntos altos del film.
The performances are more than adequate; the child actors do a good job portraying children who are initially in a fantasy world and who, even though everything seems normal, still let their behavior, curiosity, and anxieties show—and it is precisely these traits that lead to the danger they must face; that discovery makes them the perfect victims, since their inexperience and the fact that they’re in a place where there seems to be no escape are what create some truly terrifying moments. I thought it was brilliant how they portrayed the search for normalcy while being completely vulnerable to any danger—especially since they’re just children, alone and facing a twisted world; I think the way these characters are written and portrayed are the film’s highlights.
No tenía grandes expectativas con Buddy y posiblemente nadie esperaba que fuese un film bastante entretenido, divertido y a la vez tan bizarro. Creo que el público estaba dispuesto a disfrutar de la sátira sobre ese tipo de shows, pero creo que al final descubrieron una historia bastante incómoda en donde un ente mágico, pero maligno, influye en un grupo de niños que son las víctimas perfectas. Esta película demuestra que todo lo que puede ser considerado como positivo puede que no lo sea tanto y creo que Casper Kelly hizo un gran trabajo recreando un mundo cruel, pero colorido, con un personaje tan llamativo y letal, pero también colocando la base con muchas preguntas que se generan en la historia para lo que puede ser una futura secuela, la cual creo que se hará, ya que al ser un film muy independiente, pudo generar mucho más de su presupuesto; personalmente, me gustaría que la secuela tuviese una versión animada, lo cual pudiera ser mucho más terrorífico que la versión de acción real. I didn't have high expectations for Buddy, and probably no one expected it to be such an entertaining, funny, and at the same time bizarre film. I think the audience was ready to enjoy the satire on that kind of show, but I think they ultimately discovered a rather unsettling story in which a magical—yet malevolent—entity influences a group of children who are the perfect victims. This movie shows that not everything that seems positive is actually so, and I think Casper Kelly did a great job recreating a cruel yet colorful world with such a striking and deadly character, but also by laying the groundwork with many questions raised in the story for what could be a future sequel—which I think will happen, since, as a very independent film, it managed to generate much more than its budget; personally, I’d like the sequel to be an animated version, which could be much more terrifying than the live-action version. A word of advice: despite the main character and protagonist, this movie should not be watched with any children.
