El desempeño de Layton detrás de cámara es bueno; me gustó su manera en cómo va manejando el relato introductorio del personaje principal en el momento de concretar un asalto; esto lo considero muy importante en un film sobre robos porque en ese momento es donde se genera un interés sobre los personajes y, aunque esas escenas puedan ser vistas como simples, creo que existe una buena dinámica, aunque se enfoca plenamente en el personaje de "Mike", sin la necesidad de demostrar tantos exteriores por la inexistencia de caos en la escena. Personalmente, esa idea de comenzar el film no me generó ninguna crítica negativa porque se enfoca en los personajes que serán víctimas, así como en el objeto a robar, y nuevamente repito que el director tiene la necesidad de demostrar cómo es el comportamiento del protagonista en su accionar porque al final será importante para su desarrollo en la historia, así como el de otros personajes.

Layton’s work behind the camera is good; I liked the way he handles the introductory narrative of the main character as he carries out a heist; I consider this very important in a heist film because that’s when interest in the characters is piqued, and although those scenes might be seen as simple, I think there’s good momentum—even though the focus is entirely on the character “Mike,” without the need for many exterior shots due to the lack of chaos in the scene. Personally, I had no negative criticism of this approach to starting the film because it focuses on the characters who will be the victims, as well as the object to be stolen, and I’ll say again that the director needs to show how the protagonist behaves during the heist because, in the end, it will be important for his development in the story, as well as that of the other characters.
La parte importante de la película es su guion, el cual no es para nada original al contar con innumerables clichés del estilo de esta producción cinematográfica; me refiero al sofisticado ladrón, el policía inteligente y a la vez subestimado por los jefes, el problemático y caótico personaje y la cómplice llena de miedo y arrepentimiento; esa es la base para una historia en donde el tema de la moralidad es sumamente importante. Esta película posiblemente hubiera funcionado mejor si se dividiera en episodios el relato de los muchos personajes que están envueltos en la historia, aunque creo que Layton pareciera conseguir que el relato o punto de vista de cada uno de los personajes no necesita de una clara división y consigue el ritmo necesario para que funcione.

Esta película cuenta con un cast más que famoso; es algo sorpresivo ver que los personajes principales, todos son interpretados por actores que son parte (de alguna manera) del famoso Universo Cinematográfico de Marvel (MCU). No puedo decir que Chris Hemsworth realiza un gran trabajo actoral; creo que su elección para interpretar a "Mike" es más que nada por su apariencia que por sus dotes actorales; posiblemente ese sea el único aspecto negativo del film y lamento que sea así porque, a pesar de interpretar a una persona metódica, fiel a sus reglas y que en un momento de su vida decide experimentar más a sabiendas de que puede estar cerca de un fin, creo que justamente esos momentos no son muy bien interpretados por el actor. Tanto Mark Ruffalo como Halle Berry hacen un excelente trabajo interpretando, primeramente, a un policía inteligente y poco respetado en el departamento policial y el cual está dispuesto a atrapar a un ladrón, así como a una corredora de seguros que ve su vida profesional perder relevancia, lo cual puede generar un descontrol y cometer errores irreparables; ambos actores son muy convincentes, aunque también debo decir que el personaje de Berry está mejor escrito. No quiero dejar fuera la breve, pero convincente actuación de Barry Keoghan, quien personifica el caos en la historia; es una versión contraria al personaje que interpreta Hemsworth, lo cual es perfecto para la historia y este tipo de personajes son divertidos de ver; ojalá hubiera tenido más escenas en el film.
This movie features a cast of A-list stars; it’s somewhat surprising to see that the main characters are all played by actors who are (in some way) part of the famous Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). I can’t say that Chris Hemsworth gives a great performance; I think he was cast as “Mike” more for his looks than for his acting skills; that’s possibly the film’s only downside, and I’m sorry to say so because, even though he plays a methodical man who sticks to his rules and who, at a certain point in his life, decides to take more risks knowing he may be nearing the end, I feel that those very moments aren’t portrayed very well by the actor. Both Mark Ruffalo and Halle Berry do an excellent job portraying, first, an intelligent police officer who is not well-respected within the police department and who is determined to catch a thief, as well as an insurance agent who sees her professional life losing relevance—a situation that can lead to a loss of control and irreparable mistakes; both actors are very convincing, though I must also say that Berry’s character is better written. I don’t want to leave out the brief but compelling performance by Barry Keoghan, who embodies the chaos in the story; he’s the polar opposite of the character played by Hemsworth, which is perfect for the story, and characters like this are fun to watch; I wish he’d had more scenes in the film.
A pesar de la poca originalidad, Crime 101 es un buen film, es bastante entretenido y me gustó ese relato en donde la bondad o, por lo menos, buenas acciones pueden vivir junto a lo incorrecto; en eso funciona muy bien esta producción, que no necesita de crear secuencias de acción fantasiosas y mucho menos del humor forzado, solamente necesita demostrar los motivos de sus personajes y cómo va funcionando o no dependiendo de quiénes son y lo que están dispuestos a hacer, y es por eso que pienso en el tema de la moralidad, la cual siempre está a prueba sin importar qué acción desempeñas en la vida; eso es lo que más aprecio de este film.
Despite its lack of originality, Crime 101 is a good movie; it’s quite entertaining, and I liked the story in which kindness—or at least good deeds—can coexist with wrongdoing; that’s where this production really shines—it doesn’t need to create fantastical action sequences, much less rely on forced humor. It simply needs to show its characters’ motivations and how things work out—or don’t—depending on who they are and what they’re willing to do. And that’s why I’m thinking about the theme of morality, which is always put to the test no matter what actions you take in life; that’s what I appreciate most about this film.
