El pasado domingo con el estreno del cuarto episodio de la primera temporada de esta serie el cual recibió por nombre "Please Hold to My Hand", decidí no hacer una reseña porque desde el momento de ver su final pensé que era como un tipo de prólogo para lo que se trataría este episodio; con eso no diré que ese episodio sea menos importante de los ya estrenados o los que se estrenaran en las próximas semanas; con mi definición sobre el 4.º episodio quiero decir que era mejor esperar ver de manera completa toda la historia que se desarrolla en esa zona de la ciudad de Kansas y así dar una opinión completa sobre los personajes que tiene un importante protagonismo en ese episodio y en el 5.º, así como también ver cómo afecta todo lo que deben experimentar en la relación de Joel y Ellie.
Last Sunday with the premiere of the fourth episode of the first season of this series which was called "Please Hold to My Hand", I decided not to make a review because from the moment I saw its end I thought it was like a kind of prologue to what this episode would be about; with that I will not say that this episode is less important than those already released or those that will be released in the coming weeks; with my definition of the 4th episode I mean that it was better to wait to see the full story that develops in that area of Kansas City and thus give a full opinion on the characters that has an important role in that episode and in the 5th episode. Siempre he dicho que está serie evita ser repetitiva en sus episodios a pesar de que en los últimos cuatro (contando este último), existe uno o más personajes de los cuales nos demuestra como ha afectado a la humanidad la aparición de esta infección; con esto me refiero no a las muchas perdidas humanas y materiales, sino a lo que justamente nos hace humanos y es que de una manera u otro el terror impuesto por una enfermedad y por prácticas totalitarias nos demuestra de que como raza podemos convertirnos en nuestros peores enemigos; con esto dicho y con el título de este quinto episodio el cual justamente es nombrado "Endure and Survive" nos enseña nuevamente de que está historia de sobrevivientes, varios personajes deberán hacer lo imposible para mantenerse con vida y en dónde deberán lidiar con sus decisiones las cuales puedan considerarlos como villanos, pero como cualquier historia, todo depende de los puntos de vista de quién la relate y así como hay "villanos", también estarán los que deberán hacer lo imposible para completar una misión que posiblemente de comienzo a salvar a un mundo que por diferentes y horrendas situaciones sea difícil considerar ser salvado.
I have always said that this series avoids being repetitive in its episodes even though in the last four (counting this last one), there are one or more characters that show us how the appearance of this infection has affected humanity; by this I mean not to the many human and material losses, but to what makes us human and that is that in one way or another the terror imposed by a disease and totalitarian practices shows us that as a race we can become our worst enemies; With this said and with the title of this fifth episode which is justly named "Endure and Survive" shows us again that this story of survivors, several characters must do the impossible to stay alive and where they must deal with their decisions which can be considered as villains, but like any story, everything depends on the point of view of who tells it and just as there are "villains", there will also be those who must do the impossible to complete a mission that may begin to save a world that by different and horrendous situations is difficult to consider being saved.
No quiero decir que lo hecho en esta serie con respecto al 4.º y 5.º episodio sea considerado como especial o único porque es algo muy recurrente en cualquiera producción televisiva y eso es separar una historia en dos o más partes, en dónde la continuidad es valiosa para el relato; mi opinión va de que en esta oportunidad era justo esperar a ese nuevo episodio y así tener una perspectiva completa de la historia de los personajes que hacen vida en la ciudad de Kansas y por supuesto ver cómo deben lidiar con eso los verdaderos protagonistas de la serie. Los dos últimos episodios fueron dirigidos por Jeremy Webb y escritos por Mazin y en mi opinión tienen un balance entre el drama, terror y acción que es sorprendente; por supuesto tiene el clásico fanservice para los fans del juego y eso es por las escenas que cierran está historia, en especial las que considero parte del acto final; en este punto debo decir que considero a estos dos episodios como uno y es que lo disfrute muy bien de esa manera, la continuidad es genial y nos brinda una perspectiva nada esperanzadora para la humanidad tanto por la necesidad de demostrar un poder que controle a otros, así como la ignorancia sobre que se están enfrentando con respecto a los infectados.
Lo que se relata en esta parte de la serie es claramente la otra cara de la moneda, otra situación que viven los sobrevivientes del apocalipsis creado por esta horrible infección y es que nos plantea la pregunta ¿Qué harías para sobrevivir? ¿Aprovechas tu posición de víctima para sacar provecho o buscas una manera de contrarrestar y así liberarte de la opresión? Y sé que muchos pueden tratar de hacer algo diferente, obtener una libertad, pero la verdad es que dependiendo de diferentes situaciones, cada quien deberá tomar una decisión así sea considerado un villano y justamente con eso es que existe otro tema importante en este episodio y es que en la ciudad de Kansas no hay héroes, solo villanos, personas que por ser víctimas tuvieron la obligación de perder su humanidad y convertirse en despreciables villanos.
I don't want to say that what was done in this series with respect to the 4th and 5th episode is considered special or unique because it is something very recurrent in any television production and that is to separate a story in two or more parts, where continuity is valuable for the story; my opinion is that in this opportunity it was fair to wait for that new episode and thus have a complete perspective of the history of the characters that make life in Kansas City and of course see how the real protagonists of the series have to deal with that. The last two episodes were directed by Jeremy Webb and written by Mazin and in my opinion they have a balance between drama, horror and action that is amazing; of course it has the classic fanservice for fans of the game and that is because of the scenes that close this story, especially those that I consider part of the final act; at this point I must say that I consider these two episodes as one and I enjoyed it very well in that way, the continuity is great and gives us a not very hopeful perspective for humanity both for the need to demonstrate a power to control others, as well as the ignorance about what they are facing with respect to the infected.
What is told in this part of the series is clearly the other side of the coin, another situation that the survivors of the apocalypse created by this horrible infection live, and it poses the question: What would you do to survive? Do you take advantage of your position as a victim to take advantage or do you look for a way to counteract and thus free yourself from oppression? And I know that many may try to do something different, to obtain freedom, but the truth is that depending on different situations, everyone must make a decision even if they are considered a villain and that is precisely why there is another important theme in this episode and that is that in Kansas City there are no heroes, only villains, people who by being victims had the obligation to lose their humanity and become despicable villains.
No hay duda de que el personaje "Kathleen Coghlan", la líder de la resistencia en esa ciudad y que es interpretada por Melanie Lynskey es de lo mejor; me hubiera gustado ver un flashback con respecto a su pasado, pero seguramente le hubiera quitado importancia tanto a su personaje como al otro protagonista de este parte de la historia como fue "Henry Burrell" interpretado por Lamar Johnson y es que todo el peso de la historia en dónde se debe crear un debate de si hizo bien o no recae en el personaje de Henry y es por eso que quién debería demostrar rabia, venganza, odio y locura era el personaje de Kathleen; en mi opinión Lynskey lo hizo genial, es buena actriz y por su actitud, si rostro y su voz puede ser que estemos frente a alguien calmado, confiable, pacífico y justo, pero la verdad es que su personaje en esta etapa de su historia es completamente diferente. Me voy a referir brevemente del trabajo de Pascal y Ramsey los cuales cada vez más se ven mejor en cada escena y no digo que anteriormente estuvieron haciendo un mal trabajo, solo me refiero a como sus personajes estén cada vez más unidos fortaleciendo su relación; siempre he dicho que este lento crecimiento entre ambos es lo que más me gusta de la serie porque no es para nada forzado.
There is no doubt that the character "Kathleen Coghlan", the leader of the resistance in that city and played by Melanie Lynskey is one of the best; I would have liked to see a flashback regarding her past, but surely it would have taken away the importance of her character as well as the other protagonist of this part of the story as "Henry Burrell" played by Lamar Johnson and it is that all the weight of the story where you must create a debate of whether he did well or not falls on the character of Henry and that is why who should show rage, revenge, hatred and madness was the character of Kathleen; In my opinion Lynskey did it great, she is a good actress and by her attitude, her face and her voice we may be in front of someone calm, reliable, peaceful and fair, but the truth is that her character at this stage of her story is completely different. I am going to refer briefly to the work of Pascal and Ramsey who look better and better in every scene and I am not saying that they were doing a bad job before, I am just referring to how their characters are getting closer and closer strengthening their relationship; I have always said that this slow growth between them is what I like the most of the series because it is not forced at all.
Este quinto episodio nos enseña nuevamente como se puede perder todo de una manera tan rápida, lo cruel y horrible que puede ser el mundo y más cuando está destruido; yo comparo estos dos episodios al primero porque demuestran poca esperanza y poca humanidad; también demuestra lo fácil que es odiar y atacar más cuando tienes el poder, pero a la vez eres pequeño cuando lo que destruyo a todo regresa demostrando todo su potencial y es ahí donde encuentro desesperanza en esta historia; las vivencias que tuvieron Joel y Ellie, enseña más que nada a la joven chica los peligros y enemigos que podrá enfrentar en un futuro en dónde lo triste es la poca confianza que pueda tener en otras personas que pueda encontrar en el camino, eso seguramente hará que la relación entre ellos sea más fuerte porque de ahora en adelante solo dependerán de ellos mismos.
This fifth episode shows us again how everything can be lost so quickly, how cruel and horrible the world can be and more when it is destroyed; I compare these two episodes to the first one because they show little hope and little humanity; it also shows how easy it is to hate and attack more when you have the power, but at the same time you are small when what destroyed everything comes back showing all its potential and that is where I find despair in this story; the experiences that Joel and Ellie had, teaches more than anything to the young girl the dangers and enemies that she may face in the future where the sad thing is the little confidence she may have in other people she may find along the way, that will surely make the relationship between them stronger because from now on they will only depend on themselves.
