Today I finished one of those series that literally kept me glued to the screen! And I will eagerly await the second season. The series is Gannibal, based on a manga, it is a Japanese horror series on Disney Plus. From the first episode it already captured me and jumped on the sofa, the scene opens with a policeman screaming in front of a house like a man possessed, accusing the inhabitants of being cannibals. The series is set in the town of Kuge, a small town in the hinterland of a peninsula, a place still very backward and linked to ancient traditions and above all with a disturbing family that leads and dominates all the inhabitants, the Gotos. One day a new policeman moves into the town, sent there after being the protagonist of a bad story, with his wife and daughter suffering from a strange form of mutism. As soon as Inspector Agawa arrived in the town, he immediately felt a strange atmosphere. The Gotos who appeared as rough and rude countrymen welcomed him indelicately, immediately marking the territory. Agawa began to become suspicious of the old policeman of the town who had disappeared in strange circumstances, in the meantime. her daughter Maschiro, who has escaped for a moment from her mother's eyes, encounters a strange, monstrous creature in the woods and brings home a special souvenir, a human finger. Little by little the traditions of the Gotos disturb the new agent more and more, during the funeral of their elderly head of the family he sees a disturbing man and furthermore the family is very hostile towards him and does not tolerate the increasingly insistent questions about the missing agent. Agawa is contacted by his daughter who confirms that the Goto are addicted to cannibalism and more and more things suggest that this is not just a rumour, including the town priest who tells legends of children sacrificed and eaten and invites him to escape from the town A country that is increasingly hostile to him, with the inhabitants who were initially welcoming becoming increasingly strange and dangerous, as do the Gotos who lead to threats and violence. Agawa himself does not have a submissive and peaceful character, violence is also his language and therefore he does not allow himself to be discouraged even though his family is increasingly afraid.

The drama takes on increasingly dark and obscure content, the agent's investigation will lead him to uncover a terrible truth, do cannibals really exist? What strange rites are still practiced in Kuge? And what would the Gotos do to defend tradition? Obviously I won't tell you everything, otherwise I risk giving spoilers and making you lose interest, I'll just add a few things. During the series we will also discover Agawa's dark past, his internal monsters as well as the dangers of the village. A village that will drag you into its disturbing atmosphere and that will sometimes make you scared and angry. The characters are all well characterized and even if there are some differences compared to the manga they are not very different, apart from the physicality of the characters which is very different from that of the manga, the Gotos are truly incredible as are the actors who interpret them but also the main character is very multifaceted and well acted, furthermore in my opinion he is also a nice guy 🤣 For me this series is really worth a lot especially for lovers of horror and darker genres.
