Last night I was in the cinema, a night dedicated to Japanese animation, for anime lovers, like me, i call it anime evening. Whenever an anime comes out of the movie I want to watch it, no matter if it's shounen (action, battles ...) Shoujio (sentimental) or even Ecchi (an almost erotic movie), I love the world of Japanese animation and I try to do not miss the rare times it appears on a big screen. I often do not even read the plots or watch the trailer, like yesterday, anime evening, me and my trusted otaku friend (term used to identify lovers of anime and manga ) without knowing anything about the movie in question we sat and waited, surprise! Directed by Sunao Kotobuchi, derived from the homonymous manga.

The film begins, the tract is kind, I like it, a delicate, very childish design, reminds me of a pinpoint Doraemon but with more softness, almost caricature characters and landscapes, real artwork, precise, minute, very detailed.
Set in Hiroshima, starting from the thirties, up to the explosion of the bomb. As you can imagine, the movie is not one of the happiest.
Suzu, the protagonist is a little shy and cute girl , a little dreamer with passion for design and a great imagination.
Her childhood is designed in a sweet and dreamy way, from your seat in the room you seem to be there, in a hot summer, with the heat you cling to, sunk in a daydreaming atmosphere, like when you were a little girl and the summers had a particular aspect, like living in a not entirely real world.
Then the reality comes, Suzu gets married to a good boy and moves to Kure, with all the difficulties of starting a new lifetime, as a wife, inside an unknown family.
Suzu always awkward and distracted initially has some problems to settle down, but looks for a balance that he finds slowly.

But the war leaves no space for balance and how a virus enters the life of Suzu, first like a puff, rationing, ships at the harbor, the planes exercising, the husband always out to work in the military field. Until it comes to continuous alarms, bombings, anti-aircraft shelters, death, pain. All designed with immense mastery, bombs that become brushstrokes in the sky, explosions that become white flowers, a delicate world, a pencil that clashes with the noise of air strikes.
And then Hiroshima. Bomb.
