Argumento
Nuestra protagonista es Cate McCall, una abogada que está en proceso de recuperación tras convertirse en alcohólica, adicción que desprestigió su carrera y arruinó su matrimonio. En este momento de su vida, decide llevar la apelación de una asesina para reincorporarse a una firma exitosa y así demostrar que es capaz de tener la custodia de su hija Augie. Cate hace todo lo que está en sus manos para demostrar la inocencia de Lacey, en este trance debe enfrentarse a fiscales corruptos, un sistema legal corrompido y a sus demonios internos.

Thus, the concept of justice can succumb in the eyes of corruption. A secret, at first glance, is that there are many innocent people in jail and many criminals on the loose.

Our protagonist is Cate McCall, a lawyer who is in the process of recovering after becoming an alcoholic, an addiction that brought her career into disrepute and ruined her marriage. At this point in her life, she decides to take a murderer's appeal to rejoin a successful firm and prove that she is capable of having custody of her daughter Augie. Cate does everything in her power to prove Lacey's innocence, in this trance she must face corrupt prosecutors, a corrupt legal system and her inner demons.

Karen Moncrieff acierta en los temas reflexivos que muestra en pantalla mas comete un grave error, al tratar de abarcar mucho, no logra cohesionar el argumento principal con todos los elementos, de allí que algunos aspectos queden sueltos y el público deba suponer cuáles son las motivaciones que mueven a los personajes. Asimismo, las declaraciones y las conclusiones que se generan a partir de allí -en el juicio- se notan forzadas y, por ello, carentes de sentido lógico.
Por otro lado, me gustó el trabajo fotográfico a cargo de Antonio Calvache, pues notamos los paisajes de las ciudades de Seattle y parte del Estado de California (USA) capturadas con gran elegancia. Otro elemento acertado es la banda sonora, sus compases son agradables al oído y le dan suspenso a las situaciones más intensas del film. Peter Nashel hizo un gran trabajo.

Karen Moncrieff is correct in the reflective themes that she shows on the screen, but she makes a serious mistake, trying to cover a lot, she does not manage to unite the main argument with all the elements, hence some aspects are left loose and the public must assume what the motivations are. that move the characters. Likewise, the statements and conclusions that are generated from there -in the trial- seem forced and, therefore, lacking in logical sense.
On the other hand, I liked the photographic work by Antonio Calvache, because we noticed the landscapes of the cities of Seattle and part of the State of California (USA) captured with great elegance. Another successful element is the soundtrack, its rhythms are pleasant to the ear and give suspense to the most intense situations of the film. Peter Nashel did a great job.

La raza humana está colmada de imperfecciones, bien reza un dicho popular: “Errar es de humanos”. En esta cinta percibimos que tenemos una oportunidad para reivindicarnos, sanar y resarcir a quiénes agraviamos. Tomar conciencia, después de caer en excesos, es un reto cuesta arriba, al cual hay que dedicarle mucho tiempo de rehabilitación. En este proceso debe reinar la sinceridad, pues engañar a los demás puede ser relativamente fácil, pero, al final de cuentas, no podemos mentirnos a nosotros mismos por más que lo intentemos.
La corrupción se maneja como un tema bien definido, un sistema legal deshonesto carecerá de toda credibilidad, afectando a todos los involucrados (abogados, fiscales, policías, víctimas, acusados), de allí que el destino de estas personas se verá empañado por esta artimaña de malas intenciones y de abuso de poder, violentando los derechos humanos.
Asimismo, la abogacía debería ser incorruptible, lamentablemente los hechos ocurridos en la historia nos demuestran que este es un gremio viciado, los intereses corporativos y la ambición personal han llevado a muchos por situaciones perjudiciales e irreversibles, lo cual ha contribuido a una terrible reputación. Sin embargo, no podemos etiquetar bajo este silogismo a todos los que ejercen esta labor.

Corruption is handled as a well-defined issue, a dishonest legal system will lack all credibility, affecting all those involved (lawyers, prosecutors, police, victims, defendants), hence the fate of these people will be clouded by this trick of bad intentions and abuse of power, violating human rights.
Likewise, the legal profession should be incorruptible, unfortunately the events that have occurred in history show us that this is a flawed guild, corporate interests and personal ambition have led many to harmful and irreversible situations, which has contributed to a terrible reputation. However, we cannot label all those who carry out this work under this syllogism.

We live in a concrete jungle surrounded by multiple personalities and circumstances, there will always be disappointments, obstacles or difficulties, without a doubt, experiences will make us wiser to the point of strengthening us. Es evidente que la película se enfoca en las tribulaciones de la vida personal de Cate McCall, poniendo en un segundo plano la disputa legal. Ella debe luchar consigo misma para encontrarle un sentido a su existencia. Después de vivenciar situaciones desagradables por intentar hacer bien su trabajo, percibe que debe valorar más a su familia y ofrecerles tiempo de calidad. Coincido plenamente con este planteamiento.
Los juicios de Cate McCall es una narración de superación y de lucha. De allí que haya algunos mensajes para los espectadores. Considero que su argumento principal se diluye al poner el foco en otras subtramas, lo cual le resta impacto a la cinta ya que no aporta la información necesaria para lograr entender la estructura completa. La ausencia de giros en los acontecimientos la coloca en un lugar común, repite esquemas ya vistos en pantalla, no hay novedades impresionantes en el guion de Karen Moncrieff.
