SPOILER ALERT!!! What did Daemon Targaryen do to his niece? [Esp/Eng]

Review by @rosmiapure 🏆#85 🔥6 🎵171 📺9 · 22h · of House of the Dragon · 8 views

This is a series you shouldn't watch around minors because it contains very explicit content at certain moments that are unpredictable, so you wouldn't be able to anticipate them in time to cover the children's eyes.

Resource

Our main protagonist is Rhaenyra, who as a child comes across as determined and capable of achieving certain things, but at the same time is a girl fleeing a world where she had to watch her mother die while giving birth to a son who could inherit the fabled Iron Throne. Unfortunately, she also had to order her dragon to burn her mother’s remains.

At the beginning of the series, I find this character to be very beautiful, intriguing, imposing, and curious, with an outfit that really complements her skin tone, eyes, and hair; she really comes into her own when she puts on her riding clothes.

Rhaenyra had to endure being questioned by the men of the kingdom and find herself performing the task she hates most: finding a husband to fulfill the requirements and obligations she faces as the king’s daughter. It’s quite interesting, since in the first few episodes we see how she rejects the idea for the simple reason that she didn’t want to be the kind of woman who devoted herself solely to producing heirs for the kingdom.

Resourse

Another thing we can observe in the series is that you can’t trust people too much because you never know when they might betray you; from a self-serving perspective, it could be said that every family was only looking out for its own interests, setting “loyalty” aside.

This is exactly what happens to Rhaenyra with her best friend Alicent, who—pushed by her father—takes on the task of seducing Rhaenyra’s father in order to secure the crown and ensure a strong alliance between House Green and the dragons.

However, Alicent finds herself caught between a rock and a hard place because I get the sense that she truly doesn’t want to lose Rhaenyra’s friendship, even though we later see how, out of jealousy, she tries to betray her.

Something I really love is the love Viserys feels for his daughter Rhaenyra—it’s such a deep love that he’s willing to turn a blind eye to the truth and ignore what his daughter is doing, because deep down, his greatest wish was for her to be happy and to protect her from everyone and everything, something that’s made abundantly clear in one episode of the series.

The most desirable man in the entire series—or at least the one the girls brag about so much on social media. Daemon Targaryen is an ambitious, cunning, despotic, and ruthless man, but he’s also a great military strategist, and he was the commander of the Kingsguard until he was banished by his brother.

Something both terrifying and erotic was the idea that he might have some kind of relationship with his niece, Rhaenyra—and in the series, they portray them in a way that shows chemistry and a connection that doesn’t befit an uncle and a niece. However, there’s one episode where I think what he did to Rhaenyra was downright despicable, making it clear that his true intentions weren’t love, but rather to secure the crown.

It wasn’t until later, after certain events, that we see his deep love and loyalty toward Rhaenyra. And while that was the perfect opportunity to develop a compelling storyline for this pair, I feel they completely wasted it by putting Rhaenyra in a position that… (I’ll save this part in case you haven’t seen it yet)

Throughout the entire series, for me, there was nothing more exciting than seeing the dragons in action—intimidating, displaying their power, and asserting their dominance—and the bond between the dragons and their riders made it all even more thrilling.

Although I think I would have liked to see a series based on that story Viserys tells about ancient Valyria, just to appreciate how majestic the city was—and, in certain stories, we can see that Viserys never underestimated the power of dragons.

This series could have been a 10/10, and yes, it’s a literary adaptation, but we all know they can make small adjustments that either enhance or detract from the source material, and honestly, I feel like what they did with Rhaenyra in the last season was a total disaster—they went from giving us a girl with an immense hunger for power to giving us a foolish woman who relies on too many opinions to act in a way that ultimately ends up being unsatisfying.

I feel like one of the dumbest scenes in the series is when Rhaenyra appears “giving food to the poor from a cart,” and one of the most interesting scenes is the battle between the dragon Meleys and Sunfyre, and then when she faces off against Vhagar.

Sure, there might be better scenes after that, but I decided to stop watching the series when they had Rhaenyra start doing stupid things...

Anyway, they were afraid of their own success.

There isn’t a single instalment in this franchise that isn’t worth watching. So far, they’ve ALL lived up to expectations. I understand your point it’s understandable and that’s why I enjoyed reading your thoughts so much, as you have your own take on the relationship between Rhaenyra and Alicent, because that’s precisely where the series hits hardest. I, too, found myself thinking about how self-interest gradually erodes everything that seemed so solid
