Aprovechando que este 2021 tuvimos el estreno de No Time To Die, película más reciente de la franquicia de 007 y la última en la que veremos al actor Daniel Craig como el icónico espía, vamos a repasar la película en la que se nos presentó esta versión menos estilizada del personaje allá por 2006, llamada Casino Royale.
Dirigida por Martin Campbell, Casino Royale nos muestra a un James Bond que acaba de ser ascendido al rango de Agente 00, siendo más joven, inexperto e impulsivo que sus versiones anteriores. Su objetivo gira alrededor de detener a un banquero que ha financiado a distintas organizaciones terroristas, al que deberá derrotar en una arriesgada partida de póker en el famoso Casino Royale.
La película reinventa y da un aire fresco a esta franquicia al presentarnos una historia de origen de James Bond, donde Daniel Craig interpreta una variante más ruda, imperfecta y humana del personaje, lo que lo hace más relacionable con el espectador moderno, además de que desarrolla una buena química con otros personajes como Vesper Lynd, la Chica Bond de turno interpretada por Eva Green, y Le Chiffre, el villano interpretado por Mads Mikkelsen, que es interpretado de tal forma que inspira respeto y miedo, sin dejar a un lado su humanidad.
Por el lado del guión, Casino Royale mantiene un ritmo constante y un aumento consciente de la tensión que capta tu atención en todo momento. Así mismo, presenta escenas de acción muy variadas y deslumbrantes, aunque pueden llegar a ser un tanto grandilocuentes y exageradas, haciendo que la película se vuelva una más del montón. Igualmente, el arco del personaje de Eva Green puede no cerrar del todo bien al dejar algunas dudas.
Casino Royale es una excelente carta de presentación al James Bond que marcó a una nueva generación, gracias a su evolución y desarrollo dramático, escenas escritas de forma inteligente y filmadas de forma impresionante. . . The film reinvents and breathes fresh air into this franchise by presenting us with a James Bond origin story, where Daniel Craig plays a rougher, more imperfect and human variant of the character, which makes him more relatable to the modern viewer, as well as developing good chemistry with other characters such as Vesper Lynd, the Bond Girl on duty played by Eva Green, and Le Chiffre, the villain played by Mads Mikkelsen, who is played in such a way that inspires respect and fear, without leaving aside his humanity.
On the screenplay side, Casino Royale maintains a steady pace and a conscious buildup of tension that holds your attention at all times. Likewise, it features varied and dazzling action scenes, although they can become a bit grandiloquent and over the top, making the movie just another one of the bunch. Likewise, Eva Green's character arc may not close well, leaving some doubts.
Casino Royale is an excellent introduction to the James Bond that marked a new generation, thanks to its evolution and dramatic development, intelligently written and impressively filmed scenes.
