MobLand Season 2 just keeps getting better and better ngl and Episode 2 tittled Song 2 does a great job on a very short time because if this was season 1 we would still be having another development episode but season 2 is just fire with Harry, clearly the center of the season now. The episode does not need to change who he is to make that happen, even though he is now been affected by deeper problems that anyone watching the series knew will happen soon or latter. He is still trying to solve problems for the Harrigans, still trying to protect Gina, still trying to pull Kevin back toward Conrad and still hoping Jan gives him some kind of opening, although he just cant catch a break. The difference is that all of those problems hit him at once instead of one after another, and that gives the episode a stronger kick than the usual Harry cleans up one mess and moves to the next one. In his conversation with Jan, she no longer sees him as the answer to the Gina situation, she thinks Gina learned this whole life by watching him and Harry has no easy answer when she tells him to leave their daughter alone, she mostly is right about but sometimes you fight fire with fire, who better than Harry to teach Gina the dark path if thats really what she wants. I like that Harry is trying to do what he thinks a father should do, even though the damage is already done and I think we are past the return point. For now all he can do is watch Gina from a distance and making sure she is alive, thats all Harry can do right now, he has no control over whether she ever comes back to the life he wants for her. Tom Hardy is still the strongest part of this series and for many scenes its just hilarious how he play Harry and just stand there quiet and still look like he is working something out in his head. The series keeps throwing him problems that cannot get solved with a gun or a favor, that makes the character more interesting, and Episode, Song 2 is proof of this, how the series keeps putting him in spots where his usual playbook does not cut it.

Gina Is Learning From Harry, Even If He Hates It

Gina is also becoming more interesting because the episode does not treat her like some kid who just needs rescuing from Eddie, I think she will become as unchinge as Eddie over time, also I dont think this two are going to become the Bonnie and Clyde. Harry has been looking for her and finally finds her running this protection scheme, and later Eddie tells Maeve that Gina is actually useful because she handles the business side of what they are doing. She is not just tagging along behind Eddie either, she is making her own choices, earning her own money, and starting to act like someone who understands this world, she is just been lucky that nothing has gone wrong yet. When Harry tells Jan, she sees the connection to Harry right away, I think that is one of the better ideas in this episode, blaming Harry, he has spent years helping the Harrigans survive, and now his daughter is copying some of that same behavior while rejecting the exact life he wants for her. Although when Gina had this conversation with Jan over a coffee shop, makes the whole situation even harder because Gina does not sound like someone who wants to come home but at the same time sounds lost, childish and missing her family, its dark and sad. She talks about being afraid of finding one of her parent's dead, and the divorce does not send her running back to them either. I like that the episode lets Gina be angry without flattening her feelings into something simple, she is hurt by the divorce and she believes staying away from Harry and Jan is safer for her, but not in the aspect of keeping her life safe, she rather risk herself and life for something that been close to them when something bad happens, at the same time thats just stupid because she is not doing anything to protect them and is still with the Harrigans so none of that make sense, although thats what the series wants us to believe or feel. That puts Harry in a rough spot because protecting Gina might mean staying close enough to help her while knowing full well she does not want him anywhere near her life, he is playing the unwanted bodyguard from the distance. When the attack comes later, Harry is there to stop the men going after Eddie and Gina, but the two of them escape without even knowing what he did.

Frankie Knows Harry Cannot Save Everyone

Now there is this new variant that finally pulls the trigger, Frankie. We finally get why Colin thinks he can actually be useful against the Harrigans, that meeting at the saloon between them is strange, but the important part is simple, Frankie knows what happened to Richie and does not want to walk into that same mistake, while Colin knows enough about Frankie to trigger him, although feels it was just too easy because he lure him in telling him how much the Harrigans control the drug business. Colin lays out that going straight at the Harrigans is not smart because Harry has too many people around him watching his back and the Harrigans too even though the series doesnt use that big volume of characters, this gives Frankie an actual job to do instead of just being dangerous because other characters keep telling us he is dangerous. By the end, the attacks all land almost at once, Fergus gets shot, Zosia gets taken, Bella gets hit at home, and armed men go after Eddie and Gina too but they where lucky because Harry was after them already, crazy how Harry can single handle pull this jobs. Harry cannot be everywhere and that is exactly why the plan works for Frankie so well, Harry does manage to stop the men at Gina's place, but there was no way for him to catch every attack at once. Giving Harry too many people to protect and too many places where something can go wrong at once is enough, Frankie does not need to beat him in a straight fight. The final phone call to Conrad also makes Frankie feel a lot more confident, he is not being introduced through other people anymore, he is out there acting on his own, feeling way more dangerous than any other of the gangsters the Harrigans fought on the first season, it was all meetings and trying to pull on strenght while Frankie just act. I am not sure yet how much of the bigger plan belongs to Frankie, Colin, or Kat, well specially from Kat, because its true that she basically gave Colin full control but at some point she will act by her own. Its going to be interesting for how long Frankie keeps listening to Colin, but what matters right now is that Frankie is directly involved in the attack on Bella while several other attacks are happening at the same time, and the episode still does not say who is actually running the whole operation.

The Harrigans Are Divided Before the Attacks

I also like that the episode keeps showing how divided the Harrigans are right before those attacks. Harry wants Bella to talk Kevin into fixing things with Conrad because he knows the family is weaker while everyone is split up, but Bella has her own reasons for refusing, Kevin has too much anger built up toward Conrad, and she does not think she can push him back without making everything worse considering the triangle situation that already exist between them. Seraphina is also moving on her own, working through Donnie while Maeve and Conrad think they are just setting up a dinner with her but the truth is that she is just over pretending to do as her father says. Maeve keeps saying she wants peace, she is also asking a vet how someone could be poisoned and pushing Eddie to get rid of Gina, its clear she wants to be the Queen and Eddie the King, getting rid of Conrad and Gina. Conrad has his own problem too, a doctor tells him the parts of his brain tied to judgment, aggression and risk are getting worse, things trigger for him and I bet at that moment he probably even though if it was a good idea to go that crazy at the race track, thats whey he even pulls back a bit when a traffic officer try to gave him a ticket, just showing his gun was him not doing anything stupid over a ticket. I still think that is the real risk for this season, Conrad just loosing it and doing something so stupid even Harry cant fix it, over time Harry might get tired of that attitude. For now though the pressure connects because almost every problem eventually lands back on Harry, Gina is drifting further away from him, Jan wants distance, Bella will not ask Kevin to go back to Conrad, and Frankie is learning exactly where Harry can be hurt, he is not going after Conrad, Frankie is going after Harry.

Those Final Attacks Finally Pay Off

The episode spends a lot of time on conversations, warnings, family problems, and people deciding who they can trust, so I needed that end to prove all of it was actually going somewhere, and it does, making everything so special when people start getting shot and that very moment when Frankie gets Bella. Fergus getting shot throws me off a bit because why going after them when they not even close to Conrad, unless they just didnt know, but it also means that even people close to Conrad can be reached, Zosia getting kidnapped gives Harry another personal problem out of nowhere and I though he would not trust her after Frankie release her. Bella getting cornered at home brings the attack even closer to Kevin and Conrad, that was THE move. Frankie also leaves a much stronger impression than before because he takes a direct part in the attack on Bella, this makes him more dangerous than any other enemy the Harrigans have fought before, while at the same time landing all those other attacks, they must been tracking the family for days to pull this job, and the episode still does not make the full chain of responsibility clear. My main concern is that Harry is just too important this time, everything is connected to him, I know they wont get his character killed but without him the rest of the character have almost no saying, very different than season 1. The series avoids that for now because Gina, Jan, Conrad, Maeve, Bella, and Seraphina all get choices that matter even when Harry is not around, but Harry is clearly the one holding most of this together, and putting him under pressure from every direction at once is the right choice for Frankie to attack. I gave this episode another 7.5/10, this season is fire when it comes to the action and plotting, although its backwards to the first one, not much story or talking, now Im asking for one or two slower episodes.
