Hello to all anime lovers! I recently talked about one of the works of Leiji Matsumoto: Galaxy Express 999, in this anime, we know the story of Tetsuro Hoshino, a human boy who manages to address the famous Galactic Express, But, Tetsuro does not travel alone, throughout his journey, the boy will be accompanied by Maetel, a mysterious woman who handed him a ticket to board the train with the only condition that he accompanied him. These ovas deal with the origins of this strange woman, one of the great unknowns that generated me as I saw the series.
Maetel, the protagonist of the story, is one of the princesses of the planet La-Metalle (the metallic sun), whose orbit around the sun, which is fulfilled every thousand years, is interrupted because of the black sun Ra, carrying this phenomenon that the planet La-Metalle is immersed in an era of darkness, cold and famine.. Fully alarmed, the inhabitants of the planet begin to seek the ways in which to survive while they are getting away more and more from the Sun and the living conditions, they go becoming more and more precarious. The Queen, The Andromeda Promethium, begins to listen to the ideas of scientists, who ensure that the only way to be saved, is that each living being on the planet, is converted into machine, from this form, can be adapted to the casualties More mahetel and his sister Emeraldas, Daughters of Promethium, do not support the idea of mechanization, because they consider that unlimited force and eternal life, will make the human heart finally corrupt, until completely losing its essence.
The Queen, has a difficult decision. Time advances and the artificial sun is about to be extinguished, it should be rushed before their subjects end up dying of hunger and cold. To give the example and completely sure that it is the best of the decisions, it is submitted to the mechanization process proposed by Hardgear, the best electrical engineer of La-Metalle, who has already submitted the process and expresses the exception of possessing a Promethium, allows him to implement a kind of capsule that, with the passage of time, will be machined by his cells (in an absurd process, in my opinion), without knowing that heardgear real intentions is to control it and be done at the end with the power of La-Metalle.
Maetel and Emeraldes not only have to endure the terrible conditions of the planet and the suffering of their people, but also how the mechanization process is making their mother into a cold and distant being, moving away from the love image of the mother who worshiped so much. This, it affects Maetel above all, who is demonstrated more attached to his mother than his sister and one of the reasons why Promethium, seeks to take advantage of those human feelings at the first opportunity.
After the process of mechanization of Promethium, the Queen begins to order that it is subject to the whole inhabitant of the planet, including his daughters, are attacked by heardgear henchmen. That is when the princesses decide to face the scientist and fight to save his mother, as well as prevent the total mechanization of the planet, be held.
I’m going to be sincere … the ovas disappointed me a lot. After having been fascinated chapter after chapter with “Galaxy Express 999” and after remembering what was seen in “The princess of a thousand years” (another work of Leiji linked with these ovas and that I will talk about at another time), my expectations about what But as I was watching I was getting bored and that history is not only full of inconsistencies in the plot, but that the unsuccessful abound, which very often took me to paralyze the video to give me a slight blow on the forehead with thought “is it seriously? Not to mention that the villain is extremely heavy and annoying, as a character has nothing attractive and becomes annoying to see. As a positive point, I can rescue the animation, because the design of the sisters and the queen, fascinates me, as well as the design of the mechanized bodies … but the excessive use of the repeated scenes, to the absurd point that you get to tell them … makes that Even so and although the plot is somewhat incongruous and instead of explaining completely, it will generate more doubts (for example, the fate of Maetel’s father, nor I understood it), there are some rescueful things that clear the doubts about the origin of this character But like everything, this is about my opinion, so, if you are a fan of the works of Leiji or if you want to encourage you to see this type of story, I invite you to do so and thus generate your own opinion about it. But personally … it’s to see once in life ha ha
