I know I just did a movie review the other day, but wow! I just finished the first 2 episodes of The Peripheral on Amazon Prime streaming and holy shit! I'm hooked!

The series is based on the writings of William Gibson who is like the godfather of cyberpunk authors! So far the series has everything. Mystery, action, science fiction, time travel, and a futuristic dystopian cyberpunk futures... Yes, futures is plural.
The season has just started and I decided to binge the first two episodes. The basic plot is about a brother and sister who seem to be beta testers and professional gamers in a world set about 50 years in the future. The setting of the first two episodes is about half in real life and the other half is set in a virtual reality world that the brother and sister are hired to beta test. They use a really unique headset that makes them feel like they're actually IRL in the game.
Everything starts out innocent enough but begins to reveal its dark side pretty quickly. Quickly things begin to spiral out of control.
I'm going to leave it there without many spoilers. It's hard talking about a series two episodes in without giving everything away. I will say this, the series has everything I look for in a cyberfunk/action/fantasy series. It's so hard to categorize content like this and William Gibson is pretty much the godfather of this style of entertainment.
I might be a little partial though. From the first time I started playing around on the internet, I always imagined it developing into an immersive experience. VR is the eventual natural evolution of internet technology. It's just a matter of time. This series kind of captures that future. A place where people really experience the games they're playing and actually step into an alternate reality.
Anyway, I'm two episodes in and just wanted to share a quick and simple review with the CineTV community. If you're into sci-fi and cyberpunk-style entertainment. You might want to give this a try..
