Where to start with this film? There is so much to say or as they say in my land "so much to cut".

So in order not to waste time on rambling, I have decided to tell you about where it takes place, what kind of family it is and what we don't see at first glance.
The Context It takes place somewhere in Colombia, although it could have happened anywhere in the world. A family had to be displaced due to a civil war, guerrilla coercion, territory disputes, or any kind of event, in which a family feels their right to life is violated and they must flee in order not to perish.

This sounds familiar to you. Have your grandparents, parents or you yourself experienced such a situation? I am sure that most of the readers feel identified. As human beings we have all lived in one way or another this type of situation.
By the way in the movie, the miracle (the gifts that have been given to all the members of the family) comes from the "lit candle that has the figure of a butterfly", needless to say that the butterfly represents the transformation perhaps of the family or perhaps of each of the members... I leave it up to you after watching the movie.
In Colombia "La noche de las Velitas" is a tradition celebrated on December 7 in commemoration of the sinless conception of the Virgin Mary and officially marks the beginning of Christmas.

A matriarchal family If you are Latin American, it is very, very likely that you are familiar with it. In Latin America, it has been almost normal for the family to be headed by a woman.
In many cases the father has been the absent father, which has left the woman as the leader of the family, with all the repercussions that this may have, and I do not mean that women do not have the power, leadership and strength to be the head of the family; what I mean is that every family needs the figure of both parents.
It is not easy for one person to be the head of the family. Personally, I am of the opinion that every family should have two people at the head of the family, who support each other, consult each other and make the best decision for the family. The weight that falls on only one person is a great responsibility and that person can unintentionally become a despot, all to protect the family.

The Madrigals, a family that has been blessed with a miracle, each member has an amazing gift with which they can help the community, has as a central figure Grandma Alma, who was the first to receive the miracle, after seeing her husband die.
Grandma Alma, in her grief at being left alone with the triplet babies (Pepa, Bruno and Julieta), asked for a Miracle that was granted: all the people who had fled were protected by a barrier of impenetrable mountains and the Madrigals lived in a "little house" alive.
Have you ever thought that grandmother's house was the house where we all lived together, grandmother, parents, uncles, aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings ... and the house developed a certain personality. The family and personal life of each member of the family revolves around the "little house" ... think about it for a moment and then tell me about it.

But the rooms are personal, they speak of who we are, there in that sacred space the "little house" has no power. The power belongs to the person who inhabits it, ... I would dare to say that the room reflects the inner state of the person who inhabits it, when you see the film you make your analysis about it.
But what is beyond what we see with the naked eye.
Within a family we can find fears, repressed desires, obligations, demands ... secrets!; however we also find sweetness, kindness, love, desire to help ...
Within a family nucleus there are so many demands. Each member must fulfill his role in the best way. We are exposed to the critical eye of the other family members.

It is not easy to be, for example, the perfect one, or the one who has all the responsibilities, does this situation sound familiar to you? If so, read on, this is for you.
Usually we want the acceptance and approval of the head of the family, mom, dad, grandparents ... we do everything possible to be accepted and feel included in the family ... it is a need to be "seen" ... please grandma, mom, dad look at me, here I am, I'm doing everything you want to make you proud of me ... sound familiar?
So in the face of this need for approval and acceptance, we do unimaginable things, for example take on responsibilities that exhaust us, fulfill the family's desires before our own, and even run away because we don't fit in with what the family considers good.

The Need for Harmony For families to stay together they need harmony, that subtle balance between the needs of the herd and individual needs. In the film a high point is the fact that the "little house" is cracking.
This is the focal point, to search in each character, in each inner need and channel the energies to achieve that Harmony that everyone needs and for this we have our heroine Mirabel Madrigal, a sweet girl, without a gift, with an unwavering desire to keep the family united and safe.
I'm not going to tell you about the gifts of each character, because that would be a spoiler and that's the least I want to do. I invite you, when you have some time, to watch the movie and if you have that little curiosity bug, hidden things about your own family will be revealed to you.
