Dora and the Lost City of Gold review

Review by @unbiasedwriter · 1961d · of Dora and the Lost City of Gold

I probably wouldn't have watched this movie if it was all about me, but since I have kids, I decided to let this be the movie of the week selection (last week). I had some doubts before the movie started. It had an age rating of 7, and I wasn't really sure if this would be scary or not. After all, the first three Harry Potter movies are all rated with a 7-year rating, but I guess many of us agree that it could easily have been a 10 or 11 rating instead.

But, the first thing I can tell is that the Dora movie was quite harmless, and I believe it can quite easily be watched by people aged 7, at least if their parents are near and can help them digest what they see. Nothing was really scary in the movie, but to kids, it will often help them to have a parent next to them.

And also, it is way more fun for the kids to watch the movie if they have seen Dora the Explorer, the cartoon series first. As you see the monkey and the fox, and the backpack, you will not really understand the point of it all, if you haven't seen the animated series first.

What is Dora the Lost City of Gold about?

Dora has two parents who are out there looking for treasures. But, they are not treasure-hunters, they are only discovering hidden artifacts, cities, and more. Now, they have a clue about a lost city of gold, but they do not bring Dora with them. Instead, Dora is sent to a normal school. This is almost like when Crocodile Dundee was sent to New York (a big culture crash). But, she is taken captive with some "friends" and together they are setting out to find Dora's parents and the lost city of gold!

The story is nothing special, but as a children's movie (or a teenager movie), this works quite well. It is funny at times, it has some mild action, and it is interesting to see how the story will progress and move on. It is also built strongly on the animated series, meaning that we even get to see the animated characters at a later stage in the movie.

Is Dora worth watching?

My kids enjoyed it, and to be honest, it was actually quite amusing. Not a movie I will remember for a long time, but as a movie for kids aged 7 or more, this is quite good!

My score: 6.5/10

Is Dora and the Lost City of Gold on Netflix?

Based on my knowledge, this movie can currently be streamed on Netflix in Lithuania and in Russia. That is nice, but even though I know a lot about how to change your Netflix region, I don't know any way to access those countries. But, if you are satisfied with the animated series, then you can find it on Netflix in Canada.

Have you seen this movie? How did you like it? I would love to hear your thoughts.
