Movie review: The Impossible

In 2004, a tsunami devastated the coasts of the countries that surround  the Indian Ocean, leaving behind it death and destruction. In the midst of chaos, a Spanish family struggles to survive. Their story, one of thousands, was the inspiration for the making of this film, to the point where the mother of that family was on the set of the film and it was her who chose Naomi Watts to interpret it.

Now, I have to say that this film is different from those like Saint Andreas or The day after tomorrow. While the last two show hypothetical situations, The impossible portrays a real story where instinct and cooperation are key for survival. The scenarios of contingency and desolation were in a certain way so impressive that one feels to live the story in its own flesh.

That's what I liked most about this film: It connects you with the story, you live the story, you feel the desperation of the characters to survive, the desire to know if your family survived or perished. That you feel hope for the impossible, that a miracle happens. I want to think that all that was what María Belón really lived... But that's something that only she knows.
