ENGLISH

Clean is a municipal dump employee who does his nocturnal rounds in a suburb besieged by crime and drugs, in an effort to leave behind his turbulent life as a hired hitman and mourn his young daughter, whose reflection he perceives in Dianda, his teenage neighbor, whom he tries to guide in a fatherly way.

However, his past returns with monstrous force when Dianda suffers an attempted sexual abuse while she was in one of the abandoned houses where young people gather to get high and drink alcohol, unaware that the savage beating he inflicts on drug addicts would ignite the spark of a blood bath.

Directed by Paul Solet and starred by Adrien Brody (who is the script's co-writer), Glenn Flehsler and Chandler DuPont, Clean is a drmaatic film that delivers a story of redemption through violence. Something like a tribute to John Wick and Taken-styled movies, but with a plot that is lost at times in the midst of flashbacks and voiceovers.

Let's be frank: Stories with this type of characters were seen and read thousands of times, and from those thousands of times few have stood out for the ingenious approach that the writers give to their stories. In Clean's case, it is evident that its story tries to be original, but the only thing it achieves is fulfilling its purpose of entertaining the audience that likes this type of movies.

In few words: The script needed more polish, but they left it that way for various reasons that only they will know. Despite this, there are a couple of positive things in the film; on one hand, Brody, DuPont and Fleshler give us good performances, giving their characters a dark aura at full boiling point. On the other hand, I must say that I loved the father-daughter relationship that Clean and Dianda have due to the symbolism that represents for the protagonist; Dianda represents the innocence that Clean wants to protect, the affection that he wants to show to a person for which he would sacrifice even his own life in order to make her happy. This is notable in his treatment of her, as well as the anguish reflected when he sees that the local drug lord's thugs had entered the roadside restaurant with the aim of killing her and her grandmother. In a way, it could be said that protecting Dianda was a dignified and pure way of making amends for past mistakes that cost the life of her daughter.

Now, I'm not saying that it was bad, but it was not very good either. It's more of a regular movie, to entertain for a while.
