| [ESP/ENG]

Review by @waralotito 🏆#25 🔥5 🎵1.8k 🎬26 · 1h · of Corpse Bride

ENGLISH VERSION

Corpse Bride (2005): Can love overcome death?

Hello Scrobble community, October is just starting and several horror movies are coming out, like the one I chose today. Surely many of you have seen it or at least heard about it.

It's a movie that has caught my attention a lot because of the story it tells, it makes you think about what things might be possible or not in the world of the dead and obviously if this place exists.

Well, let's start with the show.

🎬 A bit of context

A movie by the great Tim Burton where Johnny Depp obviously had to be, in this case voicing Victor Van Dort (the main character). Obviously, it should be a great movie when they are together, haha.

It all starts with Victor, a super introverted young man who had become engaged to Victoria Everglot, a young woman from a respectable and well-known family. In those times, it was still fashionable for parents to arrange their children's marriages for convenience, and this was the case in this story.

Unfortunately, the Everglot family no longer had money to sustain themselves, so Victoria's parents, against all reason, decided to marry their daughter to Victor who, although he came from a humble and unrenowned family, did have a good economic situation.

And I say this because they didn't want Victor or his family, but it was the only way to avoid being poor and to have something to talk about in high society.

The day came when both young people met, and despite the nerves, it seemed they had liked each other from the very first moment. Additionally, they discovered that they shared a love for music.

By that time, they were already in the preparations for the big wedding. While practicing their vows for the big day, Victor got very nervous because he couldn't remember his vows correctly and, during the rehearsal, he accidentally messed it up, so he decided to leave to practice on his own.

Victor, somewhat worried and embarrassed, left the place practicing the phrases on the streets until he reached the forest where he could finally recite his part correctly. And as he finished his intervention, he placed the ring on what seemed to be a branch to practice everything he would have to do on his wedding day.

Suddenly, a cold wind came, the sky seemed to darken even more, and from the ground, the corpse of a woman appeared. Upon hearing Victor's vows and seeing that he had placed the ring on her, Emily introduced herself as his new wife.

Victor, very scared, tried to escape, but this woman caught him and took him to what would be the world of the dead. Upon waking up in this place, still very confused by what had happened, he wanted to escape, but it wouldn't be so easy to return to the world of the living.

Do you want to know if he will be able to get out of there or if Victor will stay there forever? I invite you to watch the movie to find out what happened next.

TRAILER:

⚠ ALERT: From here on out, there are going to be a lot of spoilers, so be careful.

♥ What I liked the most

Whenever I watch this movie, I wonder if it could happen in real life. Based on the horror stories I hear and real experiences of people, I can say that such an event is possible.

I really like the story of Victor and Victoria, despite having met and seen each other only once, I believe they were able to exchange many things, more than words, to realize that they could form a beautiful family.

While I don't agree with these kinds of marriages for interest and that are arranged by your parents, I think this is one of the few times I see that both people actually have something in common and that they like each other.

A somewhat crazy but interesting scene was when they started telling the story of the dead bride. She seemed to have found her true love and despite everyone forbidding that relationship, she ran away to be with her fiancé. Sadly, that man only wanted her fortune and ended up killing her.

The crazy thing was that it turned out to be the same man, Lord Barkis, who was going to marry Victoria. This makes me think that perhaps Barkis was looking for another victim after getting Emily's fortune, although the movie doesn't explain exactly how long he had been looking for someone else.

But unfortunately for him, Victoria's family was going through a financial crisis.

Another very beautiful scene is when, after everything that happened, Victor begins to better understand Emily and her situation. Although he still wanted to get back with Victoria, he also began to feel affection for Emily.

That's when he also got to know Emily (The Corpse Bride) a little better, who, like him, could play the piano, sing, and was very cultured. They shared a beautiful moment when they played the piano together.

But also when Emily gave him his wedding gift, which turned out to be Victor's dead pet, I really liked that part because I imagined being able to see my pet like that too, but in real life I think it would be something disturbing haha or terrifying.

Anyway, Victor, after finding out that Victoria would marry Barkis, decides to fulfilll his promise to Emily and drink the poison to join her in death. This part was a bit complicated, in my opinion, I think he gave up too soon and was willing to give his life to help Emily.

Maybe it wasn't just because of a romantic feeling toward her, but also because of the affection he had developed and the desire to fulfilll the promise he had made to her. It was a beautiful act of love.

I was very glad that Emily decided to stop Victor because she realized that if he died to be with her, he would be taking away Victoria's chance to be happy, just as they did to her. Thanks to that, I believe she was finally able to transcend and her soul could finally rest in peace.

That scene is very significant, when she disappears transformed into hundreds of butterflies and they return to the sky.

💭 Some reflections

On one hand, what makes me think the most is whether this type of union between a living person and a dead person could exist. From the stories I have heard and the beliefs that exist about life after death, some people believe that a bond can be so strong that two people could meet again in another life.

But the story I heard was that this couple had already been together in another life, but in this life, they were not quite a couple that could succeed. However, due to the promise they had made in their past life, they remained "bound." So they decided to cut that off and also give themselves the opportunity to live another life.

This story is the closest thing I've seen to the movie's story, although it doesn't involve a dead person, it does show that there can be a connection beyond death.

And now, if we talk about the underworld or the space where the recently deceased went, it seemed to me like a kind of parallel world to that of the living. It's interesting because each character seems to continue their existence in a different way until they finally find peace.

This movie opens your mind and makes you think a lot about life and death, I really like it and the style the director gives it is great.

I hope you liked this movie and I hope you tell me in the comments what you think about the union or marriage between a living person and a dead one, is it possible?
