_"Dear Mama"_ — 2Pac’s Honest Tribute to the Woman Who Raised Him

Review by @wildscribe 🏆#279 🔥1 🎵6 📺6 · 2d · of 2Pac

Some music feels ordinary when listening, while some feels like someone opening up a deep part of their life through their lyrics. 2Pac’s “Dear Mama" fell into that category for me. It is an old song dropped since the mid-90s, and it is one of the heartfelt musics 2pac wrote for his mum as a tribute to the difficult life they experienced since childhood. Listening through this good music, it was powerful because Pac did not portray his mother as someone who was perfect. He sang through when they had nothing, family struggles and mistakes, but he did not leave out all the sacrifices and love he received while growing up.

And one thing I liked about this song so much that gave it more weight is “You are appreciated" sounds natural but deep. After reading through and listening to all that Pac said in the lyrics, it felt like something he wrote from his heart and needed his mother to hear it. He didn't try to thank her mother for giving him an easy childhood, but what he was saying is that he recognised and appreciated what she did despite not having much herself. Those things he said are the distinction that gives the line its emotional strength.

In this particular song, he didn't hide anything because he was honest about how things were difficult for them; in a way, she described his mum as “a poor single mother on welfare".  I am sure some people could have used a simpler tone to describe what they faced; the Dear Mama goes deeper.

The song portrays a woman who was trying to give her children a better life while dealing with life problems herself. And taking a look back when he was an adult, Pac realised all the sacrifices that he probably could not fully understand and appreciate when he was still younger.

And like said earlier, this song is deeper and stronger because Pac did not hide the addiction her mother, Afeni, was going through. He was able to bring together the painful and good parts by allowing one to erase the other. And honestly, like that made the Dear Mama tribute feel real. Pac never said Afeni was perfect, but he was trying to say that her mother struggled and made her own mistakes, but that did not take the fact that she was still her mother because he was able to recognise what she did in his life.

The whole music was full of stories without mixing things up. And I like how PAC sounded throughout because he sounds like he was in a conversation rather than overly performing. And after saying those things about his mum, I like the fact that he also recognised his shortcomings too. And he did not make himself completely clean. He sat and looked at his past in a mature way, and he knew he needed to appreciate his mum.

Pac is one of those musicians I can listen to all day, but when I listen to “Dear Mama", I see mature music because he didn't pretend that his family was perfect. He said things exactly as they were while still showing gratitude. Pac looks at his mother as a real person who struggled, made mistakes and continued trying while still appreciating and showing recognition for what she has done. And left to me because only a few can do what he did before because being able to look back and finally tell someone, “I see what you went through for me,” is one of the most sincere, truthful forms of love.
