The Residence Season 1, Episode 5 — The Trouble with Harry

Review by @wildscribe 🏆#279 🔥4 🎵5 📺5 · 21h · of The Residence · 2 views

This episode all began with Detective Cordelia Cupp responding to a phone call she received mysterious from the hotel across the street. And when she got to the hotel, she met the call who goes by the name Vusi. A young boy who was in the hotel room with his parents who have been sleeping after their tour round the white house was cancelled. Vusi has been watching the white house using a binoculars all evening and she saw Cupp she saw a red flashlight beeping from Room 301. The beep happened twice. First at 9:46 p.m. and second at 9:51 p.m.

Some some people who are familiar with the white house, Edwin Park and Colin said it might have been the reflection or car brakes which they have gotten calls repeatedly on it. But Cupp took the boy by his words because he has been watching the building closely and he knew what he saw.

And this time, Cupp attention has shifted to the president's younger brother, Tripp Morgan, who has been living in the White House for a while, and because his watch also produces the exact beep flashlight Vusi has described. Earlier before that night when Tripp was on a call with his brother, he got really upset after he was excluded from the state dinner, and what happened between him and A.B became more important in the investigation.

Earlier before, Tripp has been confronted by A.B for stealing some things that belongs the tye white house like pillows, bathrobes, salt shakers and a small statue of Abraham Lincoln. And A.B said he will tell his brother In the morning. Tripp admitted going out of his room after the heated argument while engineer Bruce who was sent by A.B to take care of Tripp blocked toilet said another version of what happened.

The investigation also showed how two uninvited guest attended the state dinner and were detained. They wanted to leave but A.B insisted that the white house security protocol must stand and they must remain in the white house until the dinner was over, so Valentina and Lorenzo Motta were locked somewhere in the basement closet. What happened to the two made them less of a suspect. But it raises more concerns as to why A.B insisted they must be kept there.

And that question led Cupp towards the close friend and president's adviser, Harry. Jasmine has earlier explained that A B said someone might be trying to frame home and force him to quite his position. And before then, when Harry, CIA director and an Australian businessman were having a meeting, A.B had entered a meeting where they were having a private discussion and stayed there without them knowing, just following protocols and did not want to interfere. But they believed that A.B was wrongly listening to their private discussion which got Harry fused up, challenged A.B and spoke to him horribly.

And in this episode, it showed how horribly the state dinner was being handled before the real day. Lilly didn't secure any musical performer for that day and she seems not to like everything going on in the white house. A.B had to make a negotiation with Kylie to perform in exchange of sleeping in the Lincoln Bedroom after the dinner. Meanwhile Cupp did not allow anyone to leave the residence or move to another floor after the dinner even when the president himself wanted to excuse himself.

With this season, Cupp was beginning to turn small details into clues. From Vusi seeing the flash of the Red light from the room, to the confrontation between A.B and Harry and to those who entered the white house without permission and were detained. And with what I saw with Harry, I was beginning to see him as the suspect especially with the confrontation he had with A.B and his discussion with the head on panel set outside the investigation for questioning. Still, this episode five wisely keeps the mystery open, leaving detective Cupp with more questions rather than rushing toward a convenient solution and assumption like others wanted.
