Recently they released the trailer that gives us a glimpse of what is coming in the second season of Kaiju No.8 and that made me realize that I had not talked about that anime, especially when I think it was one of the best of the year, but it is never too late to recommend and remember the good story that will soon continue on screen, so, I leave you my impressions of it, as the positive and negative points it has.
Kaiju No. 8 (怪獣８号)…
Released in 2024, directors Shigeyuki Miya & Tomomi Kamiya, along with animation studio Production I.G. bring us a story of action, horror, supernatural, science fiction and adventure genres.
As for the plot…
The story takes place in a Japan cornered by beasts of different shapes and sizes that wreak havoc wherever they go; these monsters are known as Kaijus, and one of them ravages the village of little Hibino Kafka, the protagonist of this story, who, upon witnessing such an event, promises to enter the Defense Corps and defeat these abominable creatures.
However, to his misfortune, over the years he fails the tests and works as a Monster Sweeper, who is basically in charge of cleaning up the mangled bodies of the kaiju. In that, they put him as a partner to Reno Ichikawa, a young man who also dreams of being in the Defense Corps; both being badly injured after encountering a Kaiju, are taken to the hospital where, by strange thing, a mini kaiju is introduced in Kafka, which makes him one of them, but with his consciousness intact, so will our protagonist get into the defense corps despite becoming a kaiju? And that, being already 32 years old is his last chance to achieve his dream.
Personal opinion
When I saw the synopsis, where they pointed out the existence of kaiju it attracted me, because I like the Godzilla and the titans of the pacific movies (more the first one than the second one) what made me give it a chance to watch it and I don't regret it, it's the kind of story that you want it to be the next week to see the continuity of the chapter, because it left you with that feeling of wanting more. It has a little bit of everything, non-stop action, drama, humor, easy to empathize with character design and I love the faces Kafta makes when he's in kaiju mode, I can't stop laughing.
What can I say about the opening and ending? The truth is I love the songs, One republic always with good music and I had never heard YUNGLUD, I still play that intro, which, if I saw that it was very criticized its animation, because of how computerized it felt, but, I liked it, it felt different from what has been seen, well, that's how I see it. As for the story and its characters, Kafta definitely ends up attracting you, the layers of complexity that he brings after becoming a humanoid kaiju, how he fights to achieve his dreams come true and how he doesn't lose his essence throughout the plot, I would consider it an original detail, added to the fact that he is not the typical young protagonist, so we could feel identified with him, in the way we feel that time passes and we still do not reach our goals, however, he makes you understand that it is never too late, things can happen in the way you least think it can happen, to him it was to become one of those beasts.
Positive points…
-A story that is not so complex, but brings action, loaded with emotions.
-A protagonist with whom you can identify.
-A plot that engages.
-Good animation and music.
Negative points…
-It does have that shonen cliché, about the archetype of the protagonist who is an ordinary character becomes someone with extraordinary abilities, but, to be honest, it doesn't bother me, I have seen many cliché stories and it is inevitable, we will always take inspiration from other things, the important thing is that you enjoy what you are watching or reading and, in particular, I had a lot of fun with this story, I had a good time without an anime that intrigued me like that, apart from Kusuriya.

The relationships between the characters are refreshing and how each one accepts the particularities of the other. In itself, Kaiju No. 8 brings a unique premise that pays tribute to all those productions that refer to these creatures, has action, is fun and grabs you from the first episode, an enjoyable work without a doubt so you will not regret giving it a look.

Hace poco lanzaron el tráiler que nos da vistazo a lo que se viene en la segunda temporada de Kaiju No.8 y eso me hizo darme cuenta de que no había hablado sobre dicho anime, más cuando pienso que fue uno de los mejores del año, pero nunca es tarde, para recomendar y recordar la buena historia que pronto continuara en pantalla, así que, les dejo mis impresiones del mismo, como los puntos positivos y negativos que tiene.
Kaiju No. 8 (怪獣８号)…
Estrenado para en el 2024, los directores Shigeyuki Miya & Tomomi Kamiya, junto al estudio de animación Production I.G nos traen una historia de genero acción, horror, sobrenatural, ciencia ficción y aventura.
En cuanto a la trama…
La historia se desarrolla en un japón acorralado por bestias de diferentes formas y tamaño, que ocasionan destrozos a donde quieran que vayan; estos monstruos son conocidos como Kaijus y, uno de ellos, arrasa el pueblo del pequeño Hibino Kafka, el protagonista de esta historia y quien, al presenciar tal hecho, promete entrar al Cuerpo de defensa y derrotar a estas abominables criaturas.
Sin embargo, para su mala suerte, a lo largo de los años no pasa las pruebas y trabaja como Monster Sweeper, quienes básicamente se encargan de la limpieza de los cuerpos destrozados de los kaiju. En eso, le ponen como compañero a Reno Ichikawa, un joven que también sueña en estar en el Cuerpo de Defensa; ambos al quedar mal heridos luego de encontrarse con un Kaiju, son llevados al hospital donde, por cosa extraña, un mini kaiju se introduce en Kafka, lo que lo convierte en uno de ellos, pero con su consciencia intacta, por lo que ¿logrará nuestro protagonista entrar al cuerpo de defensa a pesar de convertirse en un kaiju? Y que, al tener ya 32 años es su ultima oportunidad de lograr su sueño.
Opinión personal
Cuando vi la sinopsis, donde puntualizaban la existencia de kaiju me atrajo, pues me gusta las películas de Godzilla y de los titanes del pacifico (más la primera que la segunda) lo que me hizo que le diera una oportunidad de verla y no me arrepiento, es el tipo de historia que quieres que sea la otra semana para ver la continuidad del capítulo, porque te dejó con esa sensación de querer más. Tiene de todo un poco, acción continua, drama, humor, un diseño de personajes fáciles de empatizar y que, amo las caras que pone Kafta cuando está en modo kaiju, no puedo parar de reírme.
¿Qué puedo decir del opening y ending? La verdad amo las canciones, One republic siempre con buena música y nunca había escuchado a YUNGLUD, sigo poniendo todavía esa introducción, lo cual, si vi que fue muy criticada su animación, por lo computarizada que se sentía, pero, a mi me gusto, se sintió diferente a lo que se ha visto, bueno, así lo veo yo. En cuando a la historia y sus personajes, Kafta en definitiva te termina atrayendo, las capas de complejidad que se trae luego de convertirse un kaiju humanoide, el como lucha para conseguir sus sueños hechos realidad y como no pierde su esencia a lo largo de la trama, lo consideraría un detalle original, aunado que no es el típico protagonista joven, por lo que nos podríamos sentir identificado con él, en el como sentimos que el tiempo pasa y aun no alcanzamos nuestras metas, sin embargo, te da entender que nunca es tarde, las cosas pueden pasar de la manera que menos crees que pueda pasar, a él fue convertirse en una de esas bestias.
Puntos positivos…
-Una historia que no es tan compleja, pero trae acción, cargadas de emociones.
-Un protagonista con el que te puedes sentir identificado.
-Una trama que engancha.
-Buena animación y música.
Puntos negativos…
-Si tiene ese cliché shonen, sobre el arquetipo del protagonista que es de un personaje ordinario se convierte en alguien con habilidades extraordinarios, pero, siendo sincera, no me molesta, he visto muchas historias cliché y es inevitable, siempre tomaremos inspiración de otras cosas, lo importante es que uno disfrute lo que está viendo o leyendo y, en lo particular, me divertí mucho con esta historia, tenía un buen rato sin que un anime me intrigara así, a parte de Kusuriya.
Puntaje que le doy…

Las relaciones entre los personajes son refrescantes y como cada uno va aceptando las particularidades del otro. En sí, Kaiju No. 8 trae una premisa única que le da tributo a todas esas producciones que se refieren a estas criaturas, tiene acción, es divertida y te atrapa desde el primer episodio, una obra disfrutable sin duda alguna por lo que no te arrepentirás de darle un vistazo.
