In an age where algorithms are turning us into consumers of recycled and indistinguishable products, it's appreciated that there are still filmmakers and platforms that show different things. I've only seen four films by Danish director Lars von Trier, but it's been enough to realize that he's a creator who doesn't make films to please or satisfy an audience through labels. Lars makes the films he wants, the ones we don't know we want until after we've seen them and suffered them.

Four years after dazzling the world with his bizarre, violent, and emotional Breaking the Waves, von Trier triumphed again at Cannes with the now-iconic Dancer in the Dark, a film that surprised in many ways, primarily because it starred a singer, not an actress: the exotic and unique Björk. The film tells the story of Selma, an immigrant from Czechoslovakia who works in a factory in a small town in the United States. Selma is a single mother and suffers from a degenerative eye disease. Sooner or later, the woman will go blind, and her greatest concern is to save her son from the same fate because his condition is hereditary. So, by working double shifts and saving as much as she can, Selma scrapes together the money to pay for her son's operation. She wants to save him; for her, it's already too late. Yes, it's an unusual mix, but as with other Lars von Trier stories, it's an oddity that works.

De todo ello se desprende que la película es un drama que habla de enfermedad, migración, las dificultades de la clase obrera, pero también es mucho más porque Dancer in the Dark es un musical. No un musical de Hollywood con escenarios vistosos y vestuarios coloridos como las películas que Selma ama ver, sino un musical de colores opacos, sonidos industriales y filmado con una cámara de mano para darle cierta sensación de film documental. Melancholia is a depressing, apocalyptic science fiction story. And Breaking the Waves is a love story that turns tragic and has a fantastical, religious ending. I mean, the rare is common in Lars von Trier's films, and I thank him for being unpredictable. How many times have we seen a movie on Netflix or in the theater and deduced the entire plot fifteen or twenty minutes in? In this director's case, I feel like you don't know what to expect. Dancer in the Dark is yet another example of this, because although at some point we may sense or anticipate what's going to happen, we certainly don't imagine it would happen the way the director's own script lays it out.

So: a musical drama filmed with handheld cameras, with primarily industrial settings, that deals with illness, migration, and abuse, starring an experimental Icelandic singer who, in addition to composing the soundtrack with the director, performs some songs from the classic The Sound of Music in the film... sounds like a risky mix—which it is—and different. However, at the time of its release, Dancer in the Dark was highly divisive among critics. Some said it was the worst thing they'd ever seen, that it was a resounding artistic failure and an act of self-centeredness on the part of the director, while others celebrated it with nominations at numerous festivals and two awards at Cannes, a Palme d'Or for the director and Best Actress for Björk. I say this in all honesty: I found it very strange to learn that the director had chosen a singer with no acting experience for this role, but Björk's performance is deeply moving, raw, and memorable. There are scenes in which she doesn't seem to be acting but rather experiencing the anguish of the tragic fate looming over her head. Except for some similarities with the character played by Emily Watson in Breaking the Waves (by von Trier himself), I can't recall another with that naiveté and nobility who only gets cruelty and tragedy in return. Whatever your opinion might be after seeing Dancer in the Dark, whether you love it or not, I think it's an experience worth having. Sin embargo, en el momento de su estreno, Dancer in the Dark dividió mucho a la crítica. Quien podría imaginar que con algunas pocas palabras podríamos causar tanto daño, al punto de provocar el suicidio de la víctima. Y si, es posible, los jóvenes sobre todo los adolescentes son vulnerables ante burlas o bullying, y sino se tiene una ayuda o apoyo psicológico de poe medio esto podris pasar a mayores como el ejemplo que mencioné antes.

El caso que presenta éste documental es sobre una chica que inesperadamente empieza a recibir mensajes desde un número desconocido en forma agresiva, en cuanto a su físico, su vida y su relación, ofensas muy subidas de tono que se intensifican con forme pasa el tiempo, porque si, esto duro más de un año, al punto en el que la policía tuvo que intervenir para poder descubrir al culpable, un desenlace que en mi opinión me impacto mucho, un giro de trama que nunca imaginé descubrir, una gran y triste sorpresa que no escapa de la realidad, así que no les cuento mucho más y lo invito a disfrutarla porque si nos dejara una gran lección y reflexión sobre este tema de la tecnología, las redes y el debido uso o prevención sobre todo en los jóvenes.

Hello my dear Hive readers and film lovers ❤️, today I want to share a documentary about one of the topics I believe to be of utmost importance: the use of social media among underage youth. It's a double-edged sword, as they say. While this tool allows us to communicate with people over long distances, it can also make us vulnerable and exposed to people with bad intentions, falling into the topic this documentary addresses: cyberbullying.

Who would have imagined that with just a few words we could cause so much damage, to the point of causing the victim to commit suicide? And yes, it's possible. Young people, especially teenagers, are vulnerable to teasing or bullying, and without psychological help or support, this could escalate, like the example I mentioned earlier.

The case presented in this documentary is about a girl who unexpectedly begins to receive messages from an unknown number in an aggressive manner, regarding her physique, her life and her relationship, very high-pitched offenses that intensify as time goes by, because yes, this lasted more than a year, to the point where the police had to intervene in order to discover the culprit, an outcome that in my opinion shocked me a lot, a plot twist that I never imagined I would discover, a big and sad surprise that does not escape reality, so I will not tell you much more and I invite you to enjoy it because it will leave us with a great lesson and reflection on this subject of technology, networks and proper use or prevention especially in young people.

A work that caught people's attention at first, but was then forgotten due to its confusing plot and strange mix of romance, drama, and mystery. While she has a deep interest in modern things, her intrepid colleague prefers the nostalgia of the classic aspects of this curious city. But despite their clear differences, Reiko falls madly in love with Kudo as they spend time together after work. When it comes to anime that don't turn out to be what they initially appear to be, Kowloon Generic Romance is a perfect example. What we initially believe to be just a romance anime aimed at a somewhat adult audience (Seinen) ends up becoming a spiral of secrets and unsolved mysteries that completely envelop you. The most curious thing about all this is that, in the end, it does turn out to be a love story, only very different from the typical romance stories that one easily finds in abundance in this industry. Maybe that's why this series caught my attention, or maybe it's because of the way it mixes all this with the science fiction genre, giving us a dystopian and futuristic vision of this world.

Be that as it may, what I am sure of is that it is not one of the best science fiction, mystery, and romance anime I have ever seen in my life. But even so, it has the potential to be among my favorites. I say this mainly because of the way it tells an intertwined story where Reiko and Kudo are the protagonists. While on the one hand we see how, in her eyes, Kowloon represents what imprisons us from knowing the outside world and the future that lies ahead, on the other hand we learn how he sees this walled city as a nostalgic and fond memory of a past that will never return. As you have just read, this story has a much deeper and more meaningful background than one might think.

Even so, this anime surprises us even more with interesting details such as Gene-Terra, a technology we see in this futuristic and alternative world that we still don't even know exactly how it works. But even with this stigma that remains throughout the 13 episodes of the anime, we see how this technology is responsible for everything that happens in this ancient and forgotten walled city. Not only that, but this technology goes beyond showing a supposed illusion of a place that no longer really exists; it also manages to create something new, never before seen in this world where the old is longed for.

This is where I could talk a little about the characters that make up this interesting story, but before that, I would like to mention other interesting details about this anime. One of those is the unique way in which the story is told, which is composed of present moments intertwined with memories of the past. It also has that distinctive feature of a typical mystery story, which is that objects or places have their own history and incomparable value. You could even say that each character we meet has their own thing going on and can be interpreted as a feeling or a way of seeing the world.

Continuing with the characters, I would like to start by talking about Kujirai Reiko, who is the protagonist and the most interesting character in this whole story. Her origin and development throughout this anime not only leaves us with a clear message, but also makes us reflect on who we are and what truly identifies us as people. Reiko can also represent the desire to explore new things and the value of looking forward to the future and the changes that may come in our lives with excitement rather than fear. Beyond being an attractive character born from a failed attempt to revive the past, Kujirai(A) is the living proof that different is not always bad and that change can always be more beneficial than we think.

Now, with the case of Hajime Kudo, more than one of my readers may be able to identify with him. This character is the perfect representation of nostalgia and that familiar desire to long for the old and want to relive the past. This desire, which surely everyone has experienced more than once in their lives, is not only the cause of everything that happens in this anime, but also the reason why Kudo isolated himself from the world and reality to live "an eternal summer". Who hasn't wanted to get away from society, the world, and its people to be in a dimension where we can live a memory of a past that we will miss for the rest of our lives? Well, in short, this is what we see in Hajime's case.

Otherwise, each character that appears in this anime has a remarkable introduction and development. I could also talk about each one, or at least the most relevant ones, but honestly, I don't feel like going into detail. Besides, there are a few secondary characters that I don't like at all, but not because they are poorly done, but simply because it's a matter of taste. One strong point that you've probably already noticed about this anime is the way it tells a captivating story with well-developed characters that we can feel very familiar with. Its ending is quite symbolic and interesting at the same time because it wraps everything up nicely in a satisfying way.

As for the anime in general, it also has a few negative points that I didn't entirely like. One of these points may be its fanservice, which I understand is always used in works to attract attention, but in this case, rather than simply a way to attract a certain type of audience, it's more like a way to show us what some characters are like in their daily lives. As for romance, there is more than one romance that we will see develop in this series, which is not a bad thing. However, it is clear that what captivates me most personally is the main relationship between Reiko and Kudo.

Moving on to another negative aspect of this anime, let's continue with its audiovisual quality. While it's clear that this is a low-budget production, I admit that this animated adaptation is not one of the best I've seen this past season, far from it. Don't get me wrong, overall it doesn't look that bad, at least not in terms of character design, for example. But in terms of fluidity and transitions, it leaves a lot to be desired. The excessive use of static shots with basic motion effects is very common in this anime. And the quality seems to get a little worse towards the end.

Likewise, both the story and the different scenes in this anime don't seem to offer many moments where we can enjoy an audiovisual spectacle, to be honest. That's why the animation focuses on providing more detail in the settings with their environments, landscapes, and surrounding objects. The use of light and shadow is also striking, as is the color palette, which is mostly gray or light colors. The sound effects are fine, but nothing compared to the anime's soundtrack, which is captivating and generates a lot of emotion. In short, this series is for those looking for something different from a simple love story.

Personally, I give it a rating of 8.5/10 in terms of the science fiction, mystery, and romance genres.

At the time, I spoke very highly of The Terminal List, the action series from three years ago. Wow! How time flies. I liked the series so much that I recommended it at the time, and since it's an adaptation of the first novel, which has so far spawned seven published books, they have enough material for several seasons. It has taken them a while to return to this action-packed universe, but the surprise is that, once again, we find ourselves with the characters created by writer Jack Carr, but in the form of a prequel. Being new material, Dark Wolf is not an adaptation of any of the novels, and the writer is also part of the production team.

If you wanted to see James Reece, that handsome, intelligent, super-strong soldier and killing machine, don't worry, you'll see him again, of course, although he doesn't cover the whole story, as this is a prequel focused on another important character from the first series: Ben Edwards. The former SEAL who ends up working for the CIA.

At the time of writing this post, I've seen the first four episodes, and that's enough to recommend it. Here we delve into Ben's life, getting to know him more deeply, which will lead us to understand him and know why he does what he does in the main series. He is a man of principles and ideals who truly wants to impart justice, protect, and, above all, values loyalty. How ironic. Loyalty. Anyone who has seen The Terminal List knows that all of that goes down the drain. Why? What made Ben change? We will be shown that whole process, all his struggles, disappointments, failures, and pain, and we will see this man's transformation.

No matter how many ideals you have, when life hits you, you end up giving up, because nothing matters anymore, because nothing you do is going to really change things. We are just pawns on a chessboard, and even though a pawn can kill a king, the game can start all over again. There is no hope. There will always be something more powerful pulling the strings than what they do. There are always other interests. It's a lost battle from the start.

Action and lots of testosterone. This is a series for supermachos, the kind that makes you want to grab a gun, go out screaming, and empty all your bullets into the bad guys when you finish the episode. There's no room for cowards here. It's a series for tough guys. American propaganda? Well, yes, but what's the problem? All I care about is that it's a good story.

Like the original The Terminal List, this series will receive negative reviews from all those who seem to hate heterosexual white men. All those progressives will say it's a sexist series about violent men, etc. Let them cry. The first one was well received by the public. These kinds of stories with a good dose of action are entertaining and have a large audience. This sequel builds on the success of the first one, and now I'm sure they're going to continue with the adaptation of the other novels.

Taylor Kitsch is the lead actor in this production. I remember that after the disaster that was the movie John Carter, I thought his acting career was over. Although he continues to work in film, I think it is in television series and miniseries where the actor has found his niche. True Detective, Waco, Once Upon a Time in the West, and his work in this saga of The Terminal List confirm this. Series are what he does best, and here he plays the antihero necessary for this story.

There is also a good cast that complements Kitsch's work. So far, Chris Pratt has only appeared in the first episode and the first half of the second, but I'm sure he'll be back in the final episodes, because everything that happens here, seven years before the original story, is connected. Acción y mucha testosterona. Esta es una serie para supermachos, de esas que cuando terminas el episodio te dan ganas de agarrar un arma, salir gritando y vaciar todas tus balas en los malos. Aquí no hay lugar para cobardes. Es una serie para tipos duros. ¿Propaganda estadounidense? Bueno, sí, pero ¿cuál es el problema? Lo único que me importa es que sea una buena historia.

Al igual que la original The Terminal List, esta serie recibirá críticas negativas de todos aquellos que parecen odiar a los hombres blancos heterosexuales. Todos esos progresistas dirán que es una serie sexista, sobre hombres violentos, etc. Que lloren. La primera fue bien recibida por el público. Este tipo de historias con una buena dosis de acción son entretenidas y tienen un gran número de espectadores. Esta secuela se basa en el éxito de la primera, y ahora estoy seguro de que van a continuar con la adaptación de las otras novelas.

Taylor Kitsch es el actor principal de esta producción. Recuerdo que después del desastre que fue la película John Carter, pensé que su carrera como actor había terminado. Aunque sigue trabajando en el cine, creo que es en las series de televisión y miniseries donde el actor ha encontrado su nicho. True Detective, Waco, Once Upon a Time in the West y su trabajo en esta saga de The Terminal List lo confirman. Las series son lo que mejor se le da, y aquí interpreta al antihéroe necesario para esta historia.

También hay un buen reparto que complementa el trabajo de Kitsch. Hasta ahora, Chris Pratt solo ha aparecido en el primer episodio y en la primera mitad del segundo, pero estoy seguro de que volverá en los últimos episodios, porque todo lo que ocurre aquí, siete años antes de la historia original, está conectado. De esta manera, quieren que empatizamos con Ben, y aunque no aceptemos lo que hace, entenderemos sus decisiones.
