The Creator (2023) - Don’t Need Marvel Money to Make Epic Sci-Fi - REVIEW

At the beginning I feel confused, I never consider myself an expert on anything but I try my best to enjoy this one and let me tell you that I did enjoy it, as always sci fi involve robots, AI and a disrupted future but the premise of this movie is a little bit different let me give you context, we got humans fighting against AI robots after some nuclear incident in Los Angeles and John David Washington plays this soldier named Joshua who's supposed to hunt down this secret weapon that turns out to be a little kid, classic stuff right there but the execution is what makes this thing special, like the visuals are absolutely insane and the world building feels so real that you forget you are watching a movie sometimes. The movie shows a future Asian setting where humans and AI live peacefully but everything can´t be always good because there is a country that is already trying to erase all the AI from the planet and that country is United States, yeah!!, at that point you start questioning well who are the real bad guys here and that makes this movie more interesting because it's not just about robots versus humans, it's about what makes us human in the first place.

[Source](https://screenrant.com/) [Source](https://screenrant.com/) When I saw this movie I was glad for the work made by the director Gareth Edwards, you can see the heart he put in this movie and how he achieved to give us a good movie even though he didn't have those huge budged as other franchises. Some scenes look very real even though you know its not, makes it feel natural plus the CGI into it, the way Edwards present the robots is way closer to humans, contradictory but necessary and the relationship between humans and the AI, all working together without feel it was force, also you can notice the influence from some movies like Blade Runner, District 9 and even the anime Akira, all those vibes you can see them mixed and working in a way that the Edwards took the best parts of each one and didn´t made a copy, you notice that that influence made him create his own story and is unique, after watching the movie I ask myself from where he got all this inspiration and yes in fact he did from Akira and some others similar, good things are worth imitating. The center of the story is Joshua and the AI kid named Alfie, Joshua needed Alfie to find his wife and in that journey the create a bond that never will be broken. John David Washington plays Joshua in this movie and the son of the goat Denzel Washington is making his own path and here he did a great job. Madeleine Yuna Voyles plays Alfie, this kid is surprisingly good too, the supporting cast including Gemma Chan and Allison Janney give an extra impulse to the story, Gemma Chan plays Maya, Joshua´s wife who has an importance in all this war and Allison Janney plays Colonel Howell a cold military leader who sees AI as nothing more than machines to be turned off, she is basically the embodiment of American military thinking in this world and she is terrifying in the best way possible [Source](https://screenrant.com/) [Source](https://screenrant.com/)
Is true that when you have passion and give your 100% everything can result in something positive and this movie is the case. The Creator didn´t have a big budget, well talking about the amount of money that a movie can waste in the production because shit at the end millions are millions but this wasn´t so expensive in contrast with Marvel or DC Movies, that´s why this movie is impressive, starting with the cinematography that is gorgeous and Edwards shot most of this on locations that gives this authentic feel that you just can't get with green screen environments, the contrast between the robots and the Asia landscape was a touch to this movie that make you think, this could be our future?, just imagine see a robot stand in the middle of a rice plantation or in beautiful mountains. The design of the robots was something that I never see before and I do appreciate that they really though in the way the robots should look and don´t copy something from other movies. Something else that I like was the main ship of America called U.S.S. Nomad, the design really make me remember the scene of Independence Day not for the design because are totally different, is for it massive destruction.

Probably you could think that the topics in discussion in this movie is something to talk about only in the future but that future is right now because what is discuss is if in certain point the machines are getting more humans and if they have a soul, I know that we don´t have robots walking side by side with us in our daily life but is something that could happen and here is where the director make his statement about prejudice and fear about the unknown and present two different societies, one who accept and work with the AI, taking advantage of their capacity and strength with no fear and peace but on the other hand we have America with the idea that AI is useless, only want to destroy humanity and must be destroy and the military force is the muscle that is working and hunting all the robots despite not posing a threat. The movie doesn't always hit every thematic note perfectly, some ideas feel a bit underdeveloped and could have used more screen time but overall it succeeds in making you think about these issues without being preachy about it.

I have to admit the movie is not perfect, especially getting close to the end where things get pretty complicated, feels kind of abrupt and could have used a few more minutes to really stick the landing but despite these issues I found myself really enjoying this movie. All the action scenes have good choreography, the different scenarios work perfectly and the connection created between Joshua and Alfie is the core of this movie because that AI was created under the image of her mother who was Maya, Joshua Wife. This is the kind of sci fi movies that reminds you that is not a dead genre, a movie I would probably watch again no doubt eventually when I remember it, in a way a very similar movie to Elysium (2013) another sci fi movie that I like very much. The end in someway gets you because Alfie raise as the principal AI because of her power but you can see the pain she is carrying for the lost of a beloved one, yeah probably true that she is an Ai but what about other robots, I wonder if we get to that point humans would be the ones to turn robots sentimental or will they ever simulate feelings?. The Creator is definitely a good time watch, it's got heart, awesome visuals and something meaningful to say about the world we are living in right now, makes you to think if this future arrived will there be a war or we could really live in peace with the AI?, well that is something that is only in our imagination right know but what I do know is that you need to watch this movie because deserve your time.

Synopsis: Robert Dupea is a former pianist who renounced his privileged life to pursue his own path. But when confronted with an unexpected return to his roots, far from the city where he currently lives, he ends up being "seduced" by the past he left behind when revisiting his family.

The 1970s are undoubtedly one of the greatest decades in cinema. Basically, because it was a time of great narrative experimentation, and one of them is reflected in this movie, where the plot is "enveloped" by sensitive, organic dramas that unfold without haste or grandiose gimmicks. Literally, it's life unfolding over the consequences of the choices of an individual who, in pursuit of freedom, ended up becoming "hostage" to what he didn't want. A good "case study" that has the power to make the audience reflect on the weight of their own choices, especially when the repercussions are felt beyond our own borders, also affecting others.

The script, though deliberately slow (so that everything being constructed on screen gains more weight and shape over time), is effective. After rejecting a life full of potential privileges, a former pianist finds himself unhappy with the path he's chosen. Working in a place he doesn't want to be, with friends he doesn't value, and experiencing a failed romantic relationship (full of betrayal), everything changes in Robert Dupea's life when he must revisit his past and return to his hometown. This is where a journey begins that felt like a constant escape, where the path is a large, repetitive "circle".

Once there, he is faced with situations beyond his control (such as his father's failing health, with whom he has not spoken for years, a sister who lacks attention and has lost her purpose as a professional, as well as a confrontation with his abandoned choices from the past and the birth of a new, troubled love), and the whirlwind of emotions that this ends up awakening is what lays the foundations of this movie, which is an interesting and intimate drama about the consequences of our actions and how we deal with them when we are put under pressure in situations that challenge our own nature (no matter how messy it may be for us or for others).

Paying close attention to the script, it's clear that the protagonist (who, incidentally, is a man built under a stupid bubble in which, as a human being, he manages to reject even himself as a person, as well as his own sexual adventures, potential new loves, and especially his family roots) is a difficult person. Far from being someone who cultivates bonds (however fleeting), Dupea seeks a unique way of life on his journey away from his commitments, but what he finds is only the emptiness of routine and the strength of that absence. There's a somewhat antagonistic approach here, but it's justifiable given the drama presented.

On the other hand, it's interesting to see how this seemingly accidental "road movie" manages to reinforce, within its own monotony (yes, there are some very boring moments in this movie... but they still don't completely ruin it), the damage that successive wrong choices (even without major consequences) can cause in people's lives, to the point of making them reflect on everything that isn't working in the process of maturation as the years and people pass before their eyes. The feeling of having no place in the world is quite latent, heightening the sense of emptiness that dwells within someone who disbelieves in moral values, even the simplest ones.

Given this scenario, Dupea could be seen as a bitter man (and indeed he is), but it's important to note that this "raw" portrayal in the movie reflects the very nature of someone who, in truth, has no aspirations, much less someone seeking redemption by returning to his roots (despite the movie trying to sell this idea... more specifically in its second half and third act, especially in the dialogue he has with his father, who is in a wheelchair). The problem here is the somewhat "soap opera" approach that frustrated me, because even the characters' lines, at times, seem to have been designed with this narrative bias in mind.

The script's weight is almost nonexistent, the plot is weak, but it's the cold nature of things that ends up becoming the center of attention in each event that unfolds. Almost as if it were an "intimate study," where the camera follows the path taken by a seemingly aimless person, but hoping to get somewhere. Jack Nicholson is the most prominent name in the cast, and at the beginning of his career, he ended up becoming the movie's showcase for his strong performance (alongside Karen Black). However, we're faced with boring characters with no good synergy between them, and they're not even seen as an essential part of the plot (they just come and go).

Five Easy Pieces is like an "old printed photograph" that's nice to look at sometimes, but doesn't bring back many memories beyond its "blurred" image. Literally, this movie begins with nothing, continues that way throughout its run, and ends with a completely open-ended tone. Bob Rafelson did a decent job as director (and also as co-writer), even with a technically underwhelming production, and delivered a very sad ending, full of existential crises, as well as the essence of the protagonist himself (who, even surrounded by people, still saw himself as an even more empty person in his most personal moments). In a way, it's a somewhat distressing movie.

CRÍTICA DE PELÍCULA: “Mi vida es mi vida” (1970)

Sinopsis: Robert Dupea es un expianista que renunció a su vida privilegiada para seguir su propio camino. Pero al enfrentarse a un inesperado regreso a sus raíces, lejos de la ciudad donde reside actualmente, termina siendo "seducido" por el pasado que dejó atrás al reencontrarse con su familia.

La década de 1970 es, sin duda, una de las mejores del cine. Básicamente, porque fue una época de gran experimentación narrativa, y una de ellas se refleja en esta película, donde la trama se ve envuelta por dramas sensibles y orgánicos que se desarrollan sin prisas ni artificios grandilocuentes. Literalmente, es la vida que se desenvuelve sobre las consecuencias de las decisiones de un individuo que, en busca de la libertad, terminó convirtiéndose en "rehén" de lo que no quería. Un buen caso práctico que tiene el poder de hacer reflexionar al público sobre el peso de sus propias decisiones, especialmente cuando las repercusiones se sienten más allá de nuestras fronteras, afectando también a otros.

El guion, aunque deliberadamente lento (para que todo lo que se construye en pantalla cobre más fuerza y forma con el tiempo), es efectivo. Tras rechazar una vida llena de posibles privilegios, un ex pianista se siente insatisfecho con el camino que ha elegido. Trabajando en un lugar donde no quiere estar, con amigos que no valora y experimentando una relación romántica fallida (llena de traiciones), todo cambia en la vida de Robert Dupea cuando debe revivir su pasado y regresar a su ciudad natal. Aquí comienza un viaje que se siente como una huida constante, donde el camino es un gran "círculo" repetitivo.

Una vez allí, se enfrenta a situaciones que escapan a su control (como la frágil salud de su padre, con quien no habla desde hace años, una hermana que carece de atención y ha perdido su propósito como profesional, así como una confrontación con sus elecciones abandonadas del pasado y el nacimiento de un nuevo amor atribulado), y el torbellino de emociones que esto acaba despertando es lo que sienta las bases de esta película, que es un drama interesante e íntimo sobre las consecuencias de nuestros actos y cómo lidiamos con ellos cuando nos vemos sometidos a presión en situaciones que desafían nuestra propia naturaleza (por muy desordenadas que sean para nosotros o para los demás).

Al observar con atención el guion, queda claro que el protagonista (quien, por cierto, es un hombre construido bajo una burbuja de estupidez en la que, como ser humano, logra rechazarse incluso a sí mismo como persona, así como sus propias aventuras sexuales, posibles nuevos amores y, sobre todo, sus raíces familiares) es una persona difícil. Lejos de cultivar vínculos (por fugaces que sean), Dupea busca una forma de vida única en su viaje lejos de sus compromisos, pero lo que encuentra es solo el vacío de la rutina y la fuerza de esa ausencia. Hay un enfoque algo antagónico, pero justificable dado el drama que presenta.

Por otro lado, es interesante ver cómo esta "road movie" aparentemente accidental logra reforzar, dentro de su propia monotonía (sí, hay momentos muy aburridos en esta película... pero aun así no la arruinan por completo), el daño que las sucesivas decisiones erróneas (incluso sin consecuencias importantes) pueden causar en la vida de las personas, hasta el punto de hacerles reflexionar sobre todo lo que no funciona en el proceso de maduración a medida que los años y las personas pasan ante sus ojos. La sensación de no tener un lugar en el mundo es bastante latente, acentuando la sensación de vacío que habita en quien no cree en los valores morales, ni siquiera en los más simples.

Ante este escenario, Dupea podría ser visto como un hombre amargado (y de hecho lo es), pero es importante destacar que esta cruda representación en la película refleja la naturaleza misma de alguien que, en realidad, no tiene aspiraciones, y mucho menos busca la redención volviendo a sus raíces (a pesar de que la película intenta vender esta idea... más específicamente en la segunda mitad y el tercer acto, sobre todo en el diálogo que mantiene con su padre, quien está en silla de ruedas). El problema aquí es el enfoque, casi de telenovela, que me frustró, porque incluso los diálogos de los personajes, a veces, parecen haber sido diseñados con este sesgo narrativo en mente.

El guion es casi inexistente, la trama es floja, pero es la frialdad de las cosas la que acaba convirtiéndose en el centro de atención en cada suceso. Casi como un "estudio íntimo", donde la cámara sigue el camino de una persona aparentemente sin rumbo, pero con la esperanza de llegar a alguna parte. Jack Nicholson es el nombre más destacado del reparto y, al principio de su carrera, se convirtió en el escaparate de la película gracias a su sólida actuación (junto a Karen Black). Sin embargo, nos encontramos con personajes aburridos, sin buena sinergia entre ellos, y ni siquiera se consideran una parte esencial de la trama (simplemente aparecen y desaparecen).

Mi vida es mi vida es como una "vieja fotografía impresa" que a veces resulta agradable de ver, pero que no evoca muchos recuerdos más allá de su imagen "borrosa". Literalmente, esta película empieza sin nada, continúa así a lo largo de su recorrido y termina con un tono completamente abierto. Bob Rafelson hizo un buen trabajo como director (y también como coguionista), incluso con una producción técnicamente decepcionante, y ofreció un final muy triste, lleno de crisis existenciales, así como de la esencia del propio protagonista (quien, incluso rodeado de gente, se veía aún más vacío en sus momentos más íntimos). En cierto modo, es una película un tanto angustiosa.

CRÍTICA DE FILME: “Cada um Vive como Quer” (1970)

Sinopse: Robert Dupea é um ex-pianista que renunciou à sua vida privilegiada para seguir o seu próprio caminho, mas ao ser confrontado com um inesperado retorno às suas origens, longe da cidade onde vive atualmente, ele acaba sendo “seduzido” pelo passado que deixou para trás ao revisitar sua família.

A década de 70 é, sem dúvidas, uma das melhores décadas cinematográficas. Basicamente, porque foi uma época de grandes experimentações narrativas, e uma delas é traduzida por este filme, onde a trama é “envelopada” por dramas sensíveis, orgânicos e que são desenvolvidos sem pressa ou grandes truques. Literalmente, é à vida acontecendo sobre as consequências das escolhas de um indivíduo que, buscando pela liberdade, acabou se tornando “refém” do que não queria. Um bom “estudo de caso”, que tem o poder de fazer a audiência pensar sobre o peso das suas próprias escolhas, principalmente quando o reflexo disso é sentido para além das nossas próprias fronteiras, afetando também os outros.

O roteiro, ainda que seja propositalmente lento (para que tudo o que esteja sendo construído na tela ganhe mais peso e mais forma ao longo da sua projeção), é eficiente. Na trama, após rejeitar uma vida repleta possíveis privilégios, um ex-pianista se encontra infeliz com os rumos que ele mesmo escolheu. Trabalhando em um local onde ele não quer, ao lado de amigos aos quais ele não valoriza e vivendo um relacionamento amoroso fracassado (e cheio de traições), tudo acaba mudando na vida de Robert Dupea quando ele precisa revisitar todo seu passado voltando até sua cidade natal. Aqui se inicia uma jornada que me pareceu ser uma constante fuga, onde o caminho é um grande e repetitivo “círculo”.

Uma vez chegando lá, ele se depara com situações alheias às suas escolhas (como a saúde debilitada do seu pai; com quem já não falava há anos, uma irmã carente de atenção e perdida no seu propósito enquanto profissional, além de um confronto com suas escolhas abandonadas do passado e o nascimento um novo amor conturbado), e o turbilhão de emoções que isso acaba despertando é o que fundamenta os alicerces deste filme, que é um drama interessante e intimista sobre as consequências das nossas ações e como nós lidamos com isso quando somos colocados sob pressão diante de situações que desafiam nossa própria natureza (por mais bagunçada que ela seja para nós ou para os outros).

Prestando bem atenção no roteiro, é possível perceber que o protagonista (que por sinal, é um homem construído sob uma redoma estúpida na qual, enquanto ser humano ele consegue rejeitar até a si mesmo enquanto pessoa, além das suas próprias aventuras sexuais, possíveis novos amores e principalmente as suas raízes familiares) é uma pessoa difícil. Longe de ser alguém que cultiva laços (por mais fugazes que eles sejam), Dupea busca na sua jornada ausente dos seus compromissos um modo próprio de viver, mas o que consegue encontrar é só o vazio da rotina e a força dessa ausência. Existe aqui uma abordagem um tanto quanto antagônica, mas que é justificável mediante ao drama que é apresentado.

Por outro lado, é interessante ver como esse “road movie” aparentemente acidental consegue reforçar, dentro da sua própria monotonia (sim, há momentos muito chatos neste filme... mas que ainda sim não o prejudicam por completo), os danos que sucessivas escolhas erradas (ainda que sem maiores consequências) podem causar na vida das pessoas, a ponto de fazê-las refletir sobre tudo o que não está funcionando no processo de amadurecimento enquanto os anos e pessoas vão passando diante dos seus olhos. A sensação de não ter lugar no mundo é bastante latente, aumentando a sensação de vazio que habita dentro de alguém que é descrente de valores morais, até mesmo os mais simples dele.

Diante desse cenário, Dupea pode ser visto como um homem amargurado (e de fato ele seja), mas é preciso observar que esse retrato “cru” trazido no filme seja o reflexo da própria natureza de alguém que, na verdade, não tem nenhuma aspiração, e muito menos alguém que busca redenção ao retornar às suas origens (apesar do filme tentar vender essa ideia... mais precisamente na sua segunda parte e no seu terceiro ato, em especial, no diálogo que ele tem com o seu pai, que está em uma cadeira de rodas). O problema aqui é a abordagem um tanto quanto “novelesca” que me frustrou, porque até mesmo as falas dos personagens, em certos momentos, parecem ter sido pensadas com este viés narrativo.

O peso do roteiro é quase inexistente, a trama é fraca, mas é a natureza fria das coisas que acaba se tornando o centro das atenções em cada evento que acontece. Quase como se fosse um “estudo intimista”, onde a câmera vai seguindo o caminho trilhado por uma pessoa aparentemente sem rumo, mas que espera chegar em algum lugar. Jack Nicholson é o nome mais relevante do elenco, e estando em início de carreira, ele acabou se tornando a vitrine do filme pela grande atuação que entregou (ao lado de Karen Black). No entanto, estamos diante de personagens entediantes e sem uma boa sinergia entre eles, além deles nem serem vistos como uma parte essencial da trama (eles apenas vêm e vão).

Cada um Vive como Quer é como uma “fotografia velha impressa” que é legal de ver às vezes, mas que não traz muitas recordações além da sua imagem “fosca”. Literalmente, esse filme começa do nada, segue assim durante à sua projeção e termina de uma maneira totalmente aberta. Bob Rafelson fez um trabalho decente como diretor (e também como o co-roteirista), mesmo com uma produção técnica de potencial reduzido, e entregou ao público um desfecho bem triste e repleto de crises existenciais, como à essência do próprio protagonista (que mesmo cercado de pessoas, ainda se via como uma pessoa ainda mais vazia nos seus momentos mais pessoais). De certa maneira, é um filme meio angustiante.

House of The Dragon - Season 1 - RECAP
[Source](https://screenrant.com) House of the Dragon season 1 is a very familiar series to anyone who watch Game of Thrones since its actually from the same Universe, where every smile is a threat and every toast might involve poison, it is a return to Westeros that actually feels like a real return because Seaons 1 was so so good. I had a good time watching it all over again a few weekends ago, the show wants to rush past the juicy family drama to start building up a scenario of war but not your common tanks and soldiers war. The details and production is awesome, dragons look mean and heavy and sets and costumes look great too making it very immersive, even though when most viewers watch it for the CGI dragons they still didnt feel that way and this season made sure the beasts feel like ancient weapons more than pets, which I loved. What I like the most about Season One is how the show focus a lot on the royal family duties, the opening council where a woman is denied the throne, the hunting trip where smiles carry knives, a walk into a brothel that detonates a whole palace, it is the political knife fight that made the early GOT great and these series channel that energy hard when they want to. The time jumps, some work, some do not, I get what they were trying to do, show us decades of grudges turning into open wounds, at times I wanted to the series have at least two to four more episodes, I can understand how expensive running show can be but I think fans did support the series based on how much buzz was back then, although I can also understand that it can be all social media talk and none of the cash going in.

The show rides with Rhaenyra, Alicent, Viserys, and Daemon, and I think it mostly nails this characters perfectly building up the story even though as any other series it has its ups and downs, Rhaenyra is stubborn and messy and still trying to do right by a legacy she did not ask for, her choices land like real choices with real fallout, sometimes selfish, sometimes brave, sometimes both, it makes her human and is something viewers would like. Alicent gets pushed by duty until she becomes a sinner and this eats up her mind, I know book readers see her as straight up schemer, here she is more someone who keeps reaching for the moral high ground and stepping on a rake, it also turns her into a person trapped by a system that rewards loyalty then punishes it, that clash with Rhaenyra at the funeral and the dinner later are the show for me, two women held apart by old men, old rules and old lies. Viserys, that performance is unreal, a king who wants peace in a world that only respects force, he is kind where the crown needs force out and you watch him try to hold a storm together, I can not remember the last time a single walk to a throne said that much about a character, that whole scene is pure gold from every other single character in the room, wouldnt be the last either. Daemon is the one that its a bit shaky for my like, he swings from fierce to tender and back again sometimes in the same scene and I am not always sure the show knows which version it wants but there are moments where he feels like the only Targaryen who can see the board five moves ahead, then two scenes later he lights the board on fire, chaotic in a way that is fun as hell to watch even if uneven.

Politics wise the season is a slow turd taking probably more time stuck in politics than it should when everyone is expecting send the army they just decide to keep peace until everyone hates each other enough. There is also the small things matter, a green dress, a bastard rumor whispered too loud, a sword practice that turns into a public accusation, a dragon claimed at a funeral, the show is at its best when it lets gossip do more damage than steel. Those kids, the next generation, that is the smartest choice they made, letting the beef pass down like bad blood, so by the time a dragon bite ends the season, it feels like the kind of mistake people make after twenty years of being taught to hate, that last shot lands, not because of shock value but because all the little cuts finally bled out. I also liked how the show treated dragons like living nukes, you can point them but you can not always control them, the flying scenes are not just flights, the older ones feel like bone and rage, the younger ones twitchy, that small touch really helps sell why the coming war is a nightmare, not a playground. Court games are sharp too, Otto is the steady viper, Lyonel and Larys add new flavors, Corlys and Rhaenys bring that salty steel and I liked that you can see the sea snake play legacy chess while everyone else plays throne chess, it makes the world feel broader than the Red Keep.

There are stumbles, Mysaria is a whole misread for me, the accent choice distracts more than it adds even making it very hard to understand what she is actually saying and the character’s network never feels as dangerous as it should trying to replicate the master of whisper from GOT, lets remember that this are not only positions within the court but basically traditions and this time didnt have the same impact, she is important on paper but not in the room and that is a miss because the spy game could have added more pressure on already cracking royla family. The time gaps also hurt a few characters, the wedding blow up then we jump, the fallout from certain choices gets handled in a line or two, you can feel the show wanting to be in season 2 already, recast are always hard and going from the younger version to a more adult version of some of this characters kinda hurt the show. Some character swings are very noticeable, Daemon’s monster to husband oscillation is fast, Alicent’s line from resentment to open opposition happens off screen in pieces but still fast and a couple supporting folks get reduced to functional secondary characters when they had room to be more, Harwin for example gone right when he was adding a lot of context, but even with the bumps, the acting holds it together and the script, when it slows down, really takes it time to breathe, the dinner scene is the best thing they did, everyone playing nice because a dying man asked them to, then the masks slip as soon as he leaves the room, that is pure Westeros. On the craft and quality, as I mention above this thing looks expensive and heavy, the lighting likes candles not spotlights, armor looks used, Dragons dont look like cheap CGI tricks, the Red Keep finally feels truly lived in and Driftmark felt needed more development but its something they left for the second season but I do have to mention it would have expand more the locations, probably this are the two or four episodes I was asking for. The soundtrack leans on familiar tones but spins new ones that fit this family’s colder, more ritual world. The dragons are varied, you can tell them apart by silhouette and sound, the old queen is a whole mood, and that coronation interruption is silly but that was the intention because things could have ended right there but it would be stupid to do such thing, I know how people would rolled their eyes a bit because I did too but then cracked a smile, so fair play. The show also remembers that violence is not just gore, it is decisions, childbirth scenes are rough, the cost of power shows up in bodies and scars, not just battlefield glory and I will take that over random beheadings any day, GOT.

I think we could have sat longer with the marriage negotiations, the Stepstones aftermath, the fallout of brothel rumors, more time with Harwin and Rhaenyra’s domestic chaos, more realm politics beyond King’s Landing, thats probably with GOT work for me so well because it took its time at least on the first seasons and started to expand that huge world they created. I also think the writers wanted to hurry to the civil war and I am in the camp that says the fight is less interesting than the reasons we get there, the season still earns the jump because of the kids and the dragons being forces of chaos but the path could have been milked for even more hurt. Still, as a first season, it is confident and mean in the right way and the core relationships are strong enough that I care who burns and who bends, which is the whole point. So yeah, I recommend it, with a not up front, if you wanted an even longer slow burn before the sparks, you will feel a bit short changed like me but not enough to turn you off. I would not hand it a perfect score but I am very comfortable saying it is one of the best returns to a big franchise we have gotten in a while, also a Spin Off that does work and adds to the story. I just wish it had trusted its own best scenes more often to extend the drama and let the series spread its wings wither. Season 2 is just another monster on itself that I will review soon, but sadly it got very messy and turn out to be more of a downgrade than just continuation. I know that the series came out years ago but with Season 3 around the corner in 2026 I wanted to watch Season 1 and 2 again to keep a fresh mind and put up my opinion about it.

Yeah, you heard me right. I am currently watching Prison Break, probably for the third time or more, I am not sure at this point.
The 2005 show was a big hit because it was built on never-ending suspense, mastermind planning, drama, and above all, the out-of-the-box thinking from the lead character, Scofield. Right from the get-go, you are introduced to a man who constantly proves himself to be an extraordinary individual, through his mapped-out plan and his systematic means of breaking it down into actual plans that are being achieved one step at a time.

Scofield is a structural engineer with a pretty high IQ, far from the ordinary, which makes the smart minds look like small kids. That makes more sense why he is in Fox River to save his elder brother, Lincoln Burrows, from a crime he did not commit. Scofield plans to break his brother out of prison while they fight to clear the brother's name from a murder crime he did not commit. From each episode, one can see the amount of detail and effort that has been put into the making of the series, right from the good cinematography to the brilliant acting from the actors.
But here is the question from me: Is it possible for someone to pull off such a job as Scofield?

Breaking out of a federal prison through the use of a blueprint tattooed on his body and a mastermind's planning. Although I believe that there are people like Scofield who exhibit extreme smartness but at what point does it get to exaggerated or borderline impossible?

Is it when things do not go as planned, but yet there is a backup plan that shows up out of the blue, or when you think it is almost over, and then Scofield pulls a Hail Mary? Well, to be open about it, I know that these things acted out in the movie are in no way impossible to achieve in a real-world setting. Take your time and think about it. Can you break out of a federal prison in such style the Scofield did, where everything has to be mapped out? Nah, I doubt it. Yet I still love the series. That is the power of writing and storytelling. Remember, like I said in the past, our brain enjoys that escape from realism; we long for that make-believe. It keeps our adrenaline running and the dopamine wanting more, if that is how they put it. I know there are times I want to watch a documentary or a docu-series in order to learn something new, and there are times I want the make-believe. Take me out of the world and make me realize there is more to what my eyes can see if only I let my brain run wild, and that is exactly what series like Prison Break do for me.

I didn´t knew what to think, just another horror movie like many others but everything change when I realized that Sam Raimi was the director because you know he is good in this kind of movies after all he gave us the Evil Dead movies and his Spider Man trilogy even though it had mix reactions I still believe the guy never really made a bad movie. Drag Me To Hell is a movie of 2009 and as I mention before it supposed to be a horror movie but while watching it I discovered that also mixed dark comedy and as usual it can come really good or just a totally mess, not everyone will love that idea but for me it turned out to be really fun, when you are watching an horror scene it just jump out something funny and that comedy is added to a moment of tension doing a good combination, this is not a movie that all the family will enjoy probably will hate certain scenes thinking that hey that stupid and also the end of it could be predictable but Raimi made it work.

The main character is Christine Brown she works as a loan officer in Los Angeles and she is desperate to get promoted to assistant manager and she has time working for that position so she believe she must get it but she is not the only one working hard for that position there is a new guy name Stu who is a kiss ass, those two are in a silence fight and is worst when the boss keeps giving her advice that must be tougher if she wants to be promoted suddenly that day is going to get worst because she received an elderly gypsy woman named Mrs Gan she was requesting a third extension on her mortgage payment, the boss left the to Christine and she denied the request of the old woman, man that was her worst decision because that old lady just went crazy because she felt humiliated and as a gypsy decided to curse Christine, since that day the life of Christine was a completely hell. Since that premise you think well why she didnt help the lady, is an old woman give her a last time but can see that the selfishness of Christine put her on that position, other people might think that Christine did what was correct because after all the lady already had two payment extension and thats not eve the point, we are humans and should help each other because in the case of Chrstine you might even run the chance of getting curse, probably she didnt give it enough though, although this is just a movie so I dont want to exagerate.

I know that many people think well if it is an horror movie it only should have that tone but in this case Raimi take a risk with this movie because not only show us the horror, he also include some comedy in specific moments without taking the seriousness in the scene sounds like confusing but is just something different that belongs to this director and you can see in a scene where the protagonist called Christine is fighting with Mrs Gan in the parking, this scene is one that demonstrate the point of horror with comedy because when they are fighting the old lady looks creepy but theres a moment that something hit her on the head and her eyes come out like when Bugs Bunny used to see the beautiful Lola Bunny its surreal and funny at the the same time and that´s the moment where horror break just for a second and the drama return as soon you see the face of Christine showing that she is terrify for what is happening. Something else that is like a signature of this director is a car, the 1973 Delta 88 which has appeared in pretty much every movie he has made, its like his good luck charm and seeing it again in this movie was a nice touch for longtime followers of his work.

Now lets talk a bit about the cast before we warp this one up, in Drag Me to Hell the cast was perfect Alison Lohman plays Christine and she made a great job, first showing us a person with ambitions that doesn´t care in denied a loan to a poor old woman to succeed in her carrier also in every scene where she is attacked by the demon that is falling her it feels real the way that she was suffering with all those attacks changing her from a control, secure woman to a paranoid and scare woman who knows that her life will end soon, her boyfriend Clay was play by Justin Long, he does what suppose support her girlfriend in every possible way even though that he was starting to think that she was a little crazy just because he doesn´t believe in any paranormal thing, his role is not demanding, not special but work for what was created and is enough but the star of this horror comedy movie is the actress Laura Raver who plays Mrs Gan, the gypsy woman that curse Christine, she take seriously her role as fragile old lady first but later as this lunatic woman with who shouldn't have been messed with. I really felt sorry for Christine shit knowing that something was hunting here and attack her in every moment possible, was sad but good for the movie and thats why I appreciate the practical effects because she can feel Christine pain on those attack that she received of the demon also the CGI was well worked.

Towards the end of the movie Christine work really hard trying to end the curse that is on her you really believe or better say the director make you believe that she succeeded but here comes the twist and for other the disappointment, NO, she didn´t accomplish anything, but she didn´t know it yet, she was so happy thinking that everything was finally done when something was give back to her and finally the curse is completed. At this point many people will say dam she worked so hard for nothing, everything she did was useless so what was the point for all her effort if she will not make it but other will think that was brilliant that she didn´t make it, she has to pay for what she did, for be greedy and selfish that was her destiny. If you ask me if I like the end well Im happy with it, I really like that she didn´t break her curse because we always expect that the end is a happy one, that she will be the hero who defeat the evil and now is going to live a magic life with her perfect boyfriend and Raimi show us a little bit of that, that everything was solve but Thanks God that it didn´t happen, as I said I didn´t care which end Raimi decided to show us, if the pink one or the dark one that at the end was the one he chose I will be glad with either of them but I prefer the sad one, the dark one because life is though and many people feel that are living a real hell and unfortunately sometime theres no way out but this movie make you think that for one wrong action you make everything in your life can go dark thats why think before acting, make good, be a good person for not being drag to Hell, now I am philosophical hahaha. The truth is that Drag Me to Hell is a good movie, Raimi really take the risk with the end, he play well his cards and show one more time with this movie that he is still a master of horror and humor, not a ground breaking movie but a good one time watch for sure, 6.5 will do enough for this movie.

F1 The Movie (2025) - When Hollywood Thinks Racing is Just Cars Going Fast - REVIEW
[Source](https://screenrant.com) I wasn't expecting this trainwreck to be as bad as it turned out, but here we are talking about what might be one of the biggest disappointments of 2025, I know there is a lot of people that dont think this way specially if you dont know much about Formula 1 and you dont have to be an expert Im just talking an average viewer. After watching all the hype around Brad Pitt getting back into action movies and Joseph Kazinski directing after his success with Top Gun Maverick, I really thought we were going to get something special but instead what we got feels more like Need For Speed trying to cosplay as a real F1 movie and failing badly at every turn, why the backfire why??. The whole idea is that there is this old guy coming back to Formula 1 after being away for 30 years and somehow being competitive against drivers who have been training their whole lives is kinda ridiculous that it makes you wonder if anyone involved in making this movie has ever watched a real F1 race, because if they had they would know that this sport requires insane physical conditioning, lightning fast reflexes and years of experience that you can't just magically get back after three decades of driving taxis and gambling your life away, that been said the funny part is that YES there was a 7 time F1 World Champion, Sr Lewis Hamilton as an advisor to the project, I love the guy as a driver one of my favorite drivers and I cant believe he allow all this to happen. The movie tries so hard to be this inspirational comeback story but ends up being more like watching your dad try to keep up with teenagers at a video game tournament, it's painful and embarrassing for everyone involved.

The technical aspects of this movie are so contradictory to what real life is and its very frustrating because its like nobody did any real research about how Formula 1 actually works, starting with the cars themselves which are supposed to be these precision engineering marvels but in the movie they are shooting flames out of the exhaust like some kind of Fast and Furious fever dream. Real F1 cars don't do that unless something is seriously wrong with the engine, but I guess they wanted to make things look cool for the trailers so they just said screw accuracy and went with whatever looked most dramatic on screen, something that was heavily talk about after the first Fast and Furious movie, the famous "Manifold Damage". Then there is the Apex GP team that feels like a lazy copy paste of the Mercedes team, you got Javier Bardem playing this German Team Boss basically Toto Wolff with a similar accent and the whole relationship between him and the drivers is similar to what we see with Mercedes and their drivers, he is the one calling the orders. The racing scenes look pretty good thanks to the IMAX cameras and all the money they threw at the production but when you know anything about F1 you can spot all the things that make no sense, like how Brad Pitt's character can somehow warm up his tires by hanging back on the formation lap and then magically get this amazing start that puts him ahead of everyone else, cheeky move that most likely can be penalize so drivers just dont do it and its infraction after infraction.

The story itself is so predictable that you can see every twist coming from miles away, especially when it comes to the romance side story between Brad Pitt and the technical director played by that actress who was good in other things but gets completely wasted here. From the moment she comes up to the screen you know exactly how this is going to play out, she is going to be all professional and resistant to his charms at first and he did good by putting a stop to Hayes but then it was all over after a few drinks, slowly warm up to him as he proves himself on the track and eventually they will have some kind of romantic moment that feels completely forced and unnecessary to the larger story. The whole thing feels like someone took a template for sports movies from the 1990s and just changed a few details to make it about racing instead of boxing or baseball with some classic liche like the young hotshot who needs to learn humility, the evil corporate suits who want to shut everything down and the big climactic race where everything comes together in the most convenient way possible. What makes this even worse is that the movie had access to real F1 races and locations, so they had every opportunity to create something authentic and exciting but instead they chose to go with the most generic storyline.

The ending of this movie is what made me think they saw drive to survive sucess and decided to make a movie copy pasting from other F1 races, the ending is basically just a recreation of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix where Lewis Hamilton lost the championship to Max Verstappen in controversial circumstances, except here they flip it so that the underdog American team wins instead of the established champion. Its like they watched that race and thought hey this was dramatic, lets just copy it exactly but change who wins so people feel good about it, which shows such a lack of creativity and I could extend to lack of respect for the sport but I think I have rant enough and dont want to over extend things. The whole red flag situation that gives Brad Pitt's character a chance to get back in the race after crashing is a very Hollywood like event that I can appreciate as a twist before the ending, honeslty it did change things because it was almost certain he was out, it feels like divine intervention rather than realistic racing but Im fine with that, its a movie after all not a documentary. There are so many incredible real stories from F1 history that they could have used as inspiration, like Niki Lauda coming back from his horrific crash or Lewis Hamilton's rookie season where he nearly won the championship but instead they chose to just recycle recent events and present them as fiction. There are so many drivers who actually lived through those moments and fans remember how emotional and significant that 2021 season finale was, because now its just being used as cheap drama in a Hollywood movie, I feel sad for Lewis, insert here meme "Not Like This".

F1 The Movie feels like it was made by people who have never actually watched Formula 1 and just assumed they could wing it based on what they think racing movies should look like, which results in something that looks expensive and professional, I had to admin the movie looks good and feels good if all you are focus in the sense of speed and the race but the drama felt cheap even though if I knew nothing about F1. The performances are fine I guess, Brad Pitt does his usual charming older guy stuff and the supporting cast tries their best with the material they are given, they do shot the movie during actual races to make it feel real, they also shot it on McLaren HQ and use some of the rooms to make everything feel real but its more like a tourist trip to the McLaren building, but you can't polish a turd no matter how much money you spend on cinematography. They had all the resources and access it needed to create something special that could have introduced new fans to the sport while also satisfying existing enthusiasts, they had fkn Brad Pitt but instead they chose to play everything safe and generic, resulting in a movie that only might satisfied those who know nothing about F1, considering is a growing sport in America. The racing scenes look good enough if you don't think too hard about what you are seeing but the moment you start paying attention to the details you realize how little effort they actually put in understanding the sport they were trying to celebrate, which makes the whole experience feel hollow and disappointing. I give this movie a 7 out of 10, and that is being generous because at least it looks cool and there are adrenaline moments, but as an F1 fan I can't recommend this to anyone who actually cares about the sport because it will just make you mad about how wrong everything is.

Historia sobre detectives amateurs, que tienen como característica el ser vulnerables, pero a la vez cuentan con la inteligencia y perspicacia para resolver misterios, es uno de los géneros que me gustan de ver, cada una de esas características presenta "The Thursday Murder Club", nueva película de Netflix, basada en una serie de libros escritos por Richard Osman, que relatan la historia de cuatro personas que viven en un hogar de cuidados de ancianos y que se reúnen para resolver misterios que todavía no se han resuelto y que en un inesperado día, deberán poner en práctica todo lo aprendido cuando deban resolver un verdadero misterio.

Stories about amateur detectives, who are vulnerable but also have the intelligence and insight to solve mysteries, are one of my favorite genres to watch. Each of these characteristics is present in The Thursday Murder Club, a new Netflix movie based on a series of books written by Richard Osman, which tells the story of four people living in a nursing home who get together to solve unsolved mysteries. One unexpected day, they must put everything they have learned into practice when they have to solve a real mystery.

Este film fue dirigido por Chris Columbus, de quien he visto varios de sus trabajos entre los 80', 90' y 2000, todas dedicadas al disfrute familiar y justamente está película cuenta con ese aspecto lo cual me pareció genial porque me hizo sentir cierta nostalgia por series de TV que son parte de ese género como por (el siempre) ejemplo la serie "La Reportera del Crimen" "Murder, She Wrote"; ahora, ese aspecto del film el cual le hace ver como una producción televisa, es lo que más ha generado críticas negativas, pero creo que está no es ja producción que cuente con un alto presupuesto, así que el experimentado director hizo más que un trabajo simple en dónde si puedo señalar el nulo suspenso de algunas de las escenas en dónde era necesario que existiera ese factor, pero creo que para el tipo de historia y el mantener ese formato familiar, posiblemente se decidió hacerla simple, sin tomar ningún riesgo alguno.

El guion escrito por Katy Brand y Suzanne Heathcote, es regular, está es una película con una duración de dos horas y por momentos tuve la sensación en que el liderazgo o predominio del tiempo lo tengan dos de los cuatro protagonistas de esta historia; otro aspecto que me ha parecido correcto aunque mal desarrollado es la simpleza del misterio a resolver, a pesar de que existe o se demuestra las bases para el crimen y la serie de sospechosos, creo que lo referente a qué actor es más relevante que otro, afecta el cómo se van presentando en escena y eso hace afecta el relato de la historia, ya que a tener una presencia rápida, no hay un desarrollo adecuado; otro aspecto negativo puede ser la resolución de muchos misterios, todo es muy casual y posiblemente estoy profundizando mucho en buscar aspectos negativos, pero creo que son muchas resoluciones en tan poco tiempo que en mi opinión afectan la historia.

This film was directed by Chris Columbus, whose work I have seen several times in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, all dedicated to family entertainment. This film has that same aspect, which I thought was great because it made me feel a certain nostalgia for TV series that are part of that genre, such as (the ever-present) example of the series Murder, She Wrote. Now, that aspect of the film, which makes it look like a television production, is what has generated the most negative criticism, but I don't think this is a high-budget production, so the experienced director did more than just a simple job. I can point out the lack of suspense in some of the scenes where that factor was necessary, but I think that for this type of story and to maintain that familiar format, it was possibly decided to keep it simple, without taking any risks.

The script, written by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote, is average. It's a two-hour film, and at times I felt that two of the four protagonists of this story dominated the screen time. Another aspect that I found acceptable, although poorly developed, is the simplicity of the mystery to be solved. Despite the fact that the basis for the crime and the series of suspects exist or are demonstrated, I believe that the question of which actor is more relevant than another affects how they are presented on stage, and this affects the telling of the story, since they have a brief presence and are not adequately developed. Another negative aspect may be the resolution of many mysteries. Everything is very casual, and I may be digging too deep to find negative aspects, but I think there are too many resolutions in such a short time, which, in my opinion, affects the story.

A pesar de tener una queja sobre el tiempo en escena de sus protagonistas, estoy completamente seguro que la elección del grupo de actores que lideran está producción, es lo mejor del film; todos son grandes actores, reconocidos, con una carrera amplia en el mundo del entrenamiento y verlos conformar está película me pareció excelente; Helen Mirren lidera el cast, ya que está historia está relatada desde el punto de vista de "Elizabeth Best", personaje el cual ella interpreta; ella es una líder nata, una mujer fuerte, consciente del peligro, pero sin demostrar miedo a nadie y eso sí, con un sentido correcto hacia la justicia; a ella la sigue Pierce Brosnan quien interpreta a "Ron Ritchie", un hombre correcto, con un alto sentido de luchar y exigir por lo justo para él y sus compañeros, es un personaje bastante agradable porque se aleja de esa imagen de elegancia y caballerosidad que siempre representa Brosnan; en tercera posición tenemos a Celia Imrie quien interpreta a la dulce, pero también fuerte "Joyce Meadowcroft", nueva integrante del grupo que está decidida a encajar en un grupo de personas que tienen una gran actividad, ella es de mis personajes favoritos del film junto al de "Ibrahim Arif", interpretado por Ben Kingsley quien es el actor con menos tiempo en escena lo cual me pareció una gran perdida para la película, ya que en los pocos momentos que aparece demuestra profesionalidad, es divertido y muy inteligente; como ven este es un gran cast para liderar está película que considero lo mejor de la producción, pero a la vez por un no tan buen guion se pierde la oportunidad de disfrutarlos por completo.

Despite having a complaint about the screen time of its protagonists, I am completely sure that the choice of the group of actors who lead this production is the best thing about the film; they are all great, renowned actors with extensive careers in the world of entertainment, and seeing them come together in this film was excellent. Helen Mirren leads the cast, as the story is told from the point of view of Elizabeth Best, the character she plays. She is a natural leader, a strong woman, aware of danger but showing no fear to anyone, and with a strong sense of justice. She is followed by Pierce Brosnan, who plays "Ron Ritchie," an upright man with a strong sense of fighting for and demanding what is right for himself and his colleagues. He is a very likable character because he moves away from the image of elegance and chivalry that Brosnan always represents. In third place we have Celia Imrie, who plays the sweet but also strong "Joyce Meadowcroft," a new member of the group who is determined to fit in with a group of people who are very active. She is one of my favorite characters in the film, along with "Ibrahim Arif," played by Ben Kingsley, who has the least screen time, which I thought was a great loss for the film, as in the few moments he appears, he demonstrates professionalism, is funny, and very intelligent. As you can see, this is a great cast to lead this film, which I consider to be the best part of the production, but at the same time, due to a not-so-good script, the opportunity to enjoy them fully is lost.

The Thursday Murder Club, es un correcto film, perfecto para el formato del cual fue creado y estrenado, es una producción familiar, con un misterio no tan difícil de resolver o muy mal desarrollado en su tercer y final acto y eso me decepcionó un poco porque estuve entretenido por una gran parte del film, pero lamentablemente está película entra en esa ya larga lista de producciones originales de Netflix que a pesar de ser entretenidas, tienen un final que no es para nada placentero o satisfactorio, aunque eso sí, espero que pronto se confirme la realización de otra historia más basada en estos personajes que contando con el primer libro en el que se basa este film, faltarían cuatro más para realizar y solo espero que se pueda contar con un mejor desarrollo del guion dando equivalencia a sus protagonistas, que tengan libertad para hacer cambios necesarios en los misterios a resolver lo cual seguramente hará aún más entretenida estás historias.

The Thursday Murder Club is a decent film, perfect for the format in which it was created and released. It is a family production, with a mystery that is not too difficult to solve, although it is poorly developed in its third and final act, which disappointed me a little because I was entertained for most of the film. This is a kind of movie that I really think holly shit this is so colorful so shining so bright and show so much happiness, is not that I don´t like happy movies but this movie is more than that this is a horror movie so what we see will turned into a ¨nightmare¨, also the director Ari Aster is a good reason to watch this movie, he is so unexpected and the twist that come in his movies are always a good surprise and at the end that was happen in this movie, is not that I love the movie but I enjoyed that Aster gave here. The movie present it main character, Dani a woman that is living a grief because she just lost her mon, dad and sister and now is by her own in this shitty world, she has a boyfriend who has decided to end the relationship with her but when he knows about the tragic news he couldn´t left her instead Dani joint to a trip with her boyfriend and their friends to Sweden for a sunny festival but soon they will realized that nothing is what it seems all those flowers, smiling faces, white clothes just hide a cult with tragical rituals and creepy endings.

Dani is the center of all this story she is in pain because now she has no one, talking about family, that is with her, she feels that her only support is her boyfriend Christian a man that want to broke to her but decided that wasn´t the right moment instead of stay with her he plan to go to a festival with his friends Josh the thesis guy, Mark the clown, Pelle the friend who connect all of them to the festival in Sweden that they want to go, Dani is desperate for companion and decided to go with them. At the moment they arrived to the village you can feel that everything was so wrong, so many colors, flower, sun, white and happiness, obviously they look more like a cult instead of a pacific group of people and you realized that everything is toast her at the moment that appear in scene a ritual of the oldy people jumping from a cliff to end their life, that was the point of break, in that moment they should run but now people is stupid and Dani with her boyfriend and his friends decided to stay, that was the worst decision of their life's.

At the moment of the story I felt that I was wasting my time watching this movie but the performances play an important part on this movie starting with Florence Pugh playing Dani, you can feel her pain, her dependency with her boyfriend because she feels he is everything in her life, Jack Reynor is Dani´s boyfriend his performance really made you bad, the way how he shows that he doesn´t love Dani anymore and he complete that in a scene where he cheated on her with a woman of the village he couldn´t say no to her, he was selected to complete a ritual procreating a child with that woman and he succeed on it poor Dani. Will Poulter was Mark, Christian friend he didn´t last too much in screen but what he did was good, the clown of the team who dies for pee a special tree in the village, dumbest way to die. William Jackson was Josh the nerdy of the group, I like this guy because he went to the village only for his investigation and die for it, hahaha, better way to die.

The true is the the men of this story are not the center of it the only principal her is Dani that after she start feeling that want to leave that place, everything start changing, because the villager show her that they understand her pain, her sorrow, he grief, show her that they can be part of her feelings as an only individual. This movie shows that the villager are like one big cell and that knowledge made Dani change her mind to the point that she didn´t realized that some of her friends are no longer in the village, she didn´t care about that anymore, she became her May Queen in a contest and she accepted it. All the women of the village dress her with a lot of flowers and celebrated with her that she won, she forgets about her boyfriend too. At this point of the movie one again it let you that Dani is a dependent person and now that she is accepted in this place she can feel that she is back with her family again that need nothing more. Something that really called my attention is the effects when they are high instead of showing crazy scenes, you can see the best psychedelic on screen vibes not goofy rainbow stuff more like textures on bark pulsing, flowers opening like lungs, faces warping just a bit, it sells the idea that Dani and the others are never fully grounded.

This movie is not for everyone, is in the category of horror but more as a dramatic horror, the cinematography of this movie is good, beautiful scenes, those mountains in Sweden show that they are like in magical place but as a story the other side is so dark. I do believe that people that is living a grief, a lost in their life this movie will affect them more and why? Shows the reality how people can be manipulated by others when you are in the deepest dark moment of your life and it shows in the movie in the scene where Dani has to decided her boyfriends life in another creepy ritual of this cult, that is the the new people that arrived in the village for the festival is sacrificed been burn and Dani was upset because her boyfriend cheated on her and she didn´t save him she let him die and the only think you see at the end is she smiling, at this moment you don´t know if she is finally become an evil person or just accepted the villagers as her new family, is a way of doesn´t feel alone anymore and with that change and killing her boyfriend she is no longer in pain. Midsommar is a movie that I understand but not recommend for everyone, is deep, is stupid is some kind, slow in other and the ends you know how it happy, why it happen but you can´t accept that it happen, that is a good movie for me yes it is so I let you to decided if you want to see, is phycological horror that somethings are more difficult to watch.

Foundation (2021): A Song for the End of Everything – S3E01 – RECAP

I decided to watch this series because I read how huge the entire story is also a very complicated one that you do need to put your 110% attention into it to follow up, lucky me this first episode gives a lot of context but at the same time feels boring without much drama and mostly empire thinking they have the full control of everything, btw dont murder me on a comment if I get a name or a theory wrong this is just a recap post based on my opinion not a lore discussion. The empire is trying to strike back with subterfuge all the while brother Dawn and Dusk are trying to keep things together. Brother Day had transformed completely, for the better from the viewers perspective, he is off on a journey of discovery and reconnecting with nature and people while brother Dawn is in deep reflection mode and brother Dusk is kinetic, solidifying his power base, plotting and scheming. On the other side, the foundation itself is dealing with corruption and inept leadership but showing peaks of hope with new characters introduced, both powers are aware of the Mule, whose terrifying power display is convincing that he can achieve his goal of defeating both empire and foundation. I wonder if the two super powers be able to neutralize this emerging threat? Hard to see that turning out well based on the state of their leadership. The visuals, music, sets and individual performances are stunning and the story telling in this episode is very well paced with both the serious and larger themes being addressed in addition to some lighter moments, I will for sure continue watching and catch up.

This entire thing is a crazy universe thats 152 years into the future and honestly the world building is probably the best aspect of the show. The episode titled "A Song for the End of Everything" really sets up everything thats gonna go down this season with the Mule finally making his presence known in the most terrifying way possible, the guy basically walks onto a pleasure planet and just takes it over without breaking a sweat which is both impressive and scary as hell. Digging a bit into the previous season it seems they recast the Mule with this new actor who brings this creepy charisma that makes you understand why people would follow him, the opening scene where he forces that Archduke to bite off his own finger was absolutely brutal and sets the tone perfectly for what kind of villain we are dealing with. The way he can turn entire armies against each other just by using his mental powers shows us that psycho history might not be enough to predict what hes gonna do next, this dude is basically the joker in Harry Seldon mathematical deck and I love how unpredictable that makes everything. The visual effects when showing his powers are really well done too, you can see the budget increase from previous seasons and it shows in every scene from the space battles to the different planets we visit.

There is this interesting event almost like a thicking bomb where Brother Dawn is only ten days away from becoming Brother Day and you can tell hes ready for the responsibility, hes sharp and knows how to work the political game which is a nice change from some of the previous versions we have seen. The galactic council scenes were really well done showing how Dawn can manipulate a room full of politicians and even stage his own protest to get what he wants, this kid is gonna be dangerous when he takes over fully. Brother Dusk spending his time watching old execution videos of previous cleons was dark as hell but it makes sense that hes trying to prepare himself for whats coming, the way they show him being anxious about his upcoming death really adds some humanity to these characters. Then theres Brother Day who has completely checked out and is living his best life with this girl named Song smoking drugs and writing poetry about cloned animals, which sounds ridiculous. The contrast between the three brothers and where they are mentally right now creates this interesting tension that drives the whole empire storyline forward.

The foundation side of things introduces us to some really interesting new characters but also shows us how much the organization has changed over the past 152 years, they are no longer the scrappy underdogs fighting against impossible odds but have become this massive power with 800 planets under their control. What I really liked was meeting Professor Ebling Miss who seems to be the only person who actually understands what Harry Seldon was trying to accomplish, his scene inside the vault with vault Harry was probably my favorite part of the episode because it shows how disconnected the current foundation leadership is from the original mission. The mayor of new terminus is such an incompetent politician who cares more about staying in power than actually preparing for whats coming, which creates this nice parallel with the empire where both organizations are being led by people who dont really get the bigger picture. Han Pritchard seems like hes gonna be our main action hero for the foundation side and I really hope they give him more to do than just chase around these trader rebels, the whole sequence on Haven with the pod racing through those temperature extremes was visually impressive but felt a bit rushed. Demerzel has to be the most fascinating character on the entire show and her scenes with the zephyr priestess were incredible, finally getting some real backstory about the robot wars and how the laws of robotics actually work in this universe, besides she is son beautiful. The garden setting with those poisoned golden apples was beautiful and creepy at the same time, this entire story is so complex and the amount of imagination put into, you can tell the production designers really thought about every detail to make these locations feel lived in and meaningful. The bigger question comes in when Demerzel talks about not knowing what she is without empire, that kind of existential crisis from an artificial being raises so many interesting questions about identity and purpose that I hope they explore more as the season goes on. The way she stores the prime radiant inside her chest look very practical and symbolic showing how shes literally carrying the future of humanity inside her, the special effects for that scene were really well executed.

I though it would be way harder to catch the thread of the series but the episode does a great job setting up all the pieces for what feels like its gonna be a really intense season with the mule as this wild card that neither empire nor foundation can predict or control. Gail waking up from cryo sleep at the end gave that feeling that maybe someone will be able to stand against the mule since shes the only other person with similar mental abilities but even she admits that her powers are nowhere near as strong as his, the Mule remind me Sentry on Thunderbolts, way over powered and who is going to stand against him? and how?. The pacing of this episode felt a bit draggy at times with other scenes that felt rushed, but overall it succeeds in expanding and giving context to the world and introducing new plot threads that have me excited to see where things go next and to catch up with previous season when ever I can. Yes, there was a lot of talking and very little action and might not have the immediate excitement, it does the important work of setting up what feels like its gonna be the most ambitious season yet based on what the little I know about it, I am definitely gonna keep watching to see how they handle the mule storyline and whether empire and foundation can find a way to work together against this common threat.

Synopsis: When the underworld of credit card scams unexpectedly becomes an "easy way out" for Emily (a woman with a few blemishes on her criminal record and currently burdened with debt beyond her control), she has no idea what a dangerous game she's decided to play.

The American dream is literally shattered before the viewer's eyes. That would be a simple, self-contained sentence about everything I could say about this movie, but I really need to write a full text because this is the kind of project that needs to be recognized and valued as art within the cinematic universe (even though it has its occasional flaws, but they in no way diminish the brilliance of what has been constructed here). I decided to watch it after seeing the trailer, and I confess that I really didn't expect to encounter such a genuine (and thoughtful) plot. Here is an intriguing, provocative, and at times, quite sad (especially for poorer people).

In a reality that seems, and indeed is, very negative, the protagonist of this story must deal with several companies' repeated refusals to hire her as a registered employee (due to past crimes). Furthermore, she is financially indebted due to her student loan (which she had to take out to graduate from university) and shares a small apartment with strangers. Working as someone without any formal employment (as a simple service provider for a food service company), she decides to change careers. However, it is a radical change, and one that will bring her unimaginable problems.

Emily is "innocently" introduced by a friend from work to a group of people committing coordinated illicit acts based on scams using cloned credit cards. Once inside the scheme, everything that happens (from a first, minor crime to more complex scams) distorts her entire understanding (not initially, but gradually) about everything she needs to do to earn the money she so desperately desires to honor her commitments and have a better life. What she didn't expect to happen was her immersion into an underworld of countless scams operating in the city of Los Angeles.

Distractify

Alongside Youcef, an immigrant who built his life in the United States by running scams of this nature, Emily develops a physical (and emotional) attraction as they pull off new scams. However, it's Emily who spares no effort to advance further and further in this field, surprising her "tutor" in a world where crime seems to be just a "tool" to bravely fight against an oppressive system that crushes all those who try to go against its rules. Increasingly greedy, she ends up being easy prey for other scammers at times, but she quickly comes to understand how this game works.

Parallel to her life as a potential criminal, she also tries to find a path to redemption through more conventional means (experiencing another embarrassing moment during an interview, which a longtime friend of hers had arranged for her at the company where she works... and here the script makes a harsh critique of how some large companies exploit their interns). But once again, the oppressive system reminds her of her place in the food chain, where she will not rise through the traditional path (reinforcing her choice of the world of crime). A sad portrait of how this "arm" of capitalism operates within a society seduced by its promises.

CNY Central

The weight of the drama here is palpable, and I believe many viewers can easily relate to the reality Emily is experiencing. Beyond the drama, there's also an effective, suspense-driven approach to events that, while somewhat predictable, demonstrate that life within the criminal world can't bear fruit (and is ultimately a sneaky practice that ultimately backfires on those who choose it). There's only the corrosive (and persistent) process of massive self-destruction, "disguised" as momentary pleasures, which tend to satisfy all our most urgent needs (whether short-, medium-, or long-term).

In a powerful performance, Aubrey Plaza invites us to delve into a relentless reality, playing a character who, in her pursuit of financial freedom, ironically ends up becoming a prisoner of that desire. There's no doubt that this is, thus far, one of the best performances of her career (in dramatic forays). Alongside her, Theo Rossi embodies the immigrant dreamer in America, who sees his destiny crushed by those who are supposed to help him. Plaza and Rossi portray characters not far removed from the reality of many people (immigrants and otherwise), reinforcing a brutal and staggered reality.

Looper

John Patton Ford made his feature film directorial (and screenwriting) debut with this movie, and Emily the Criminal is a very consistent work that, within its scope, doesn't glamorize the criminal underworld in any way, avoiding the narrative clichés that could easily have been used here. The production is simple, yet sufficient to give weight and form to a sensitive (and at the same time powerful) project, without any intention of offering any moral lessons to the audience. The approach to this drama isn't complex and doesn't feature major twists, but it's effective in its realistic tone about an ordinary person who is "seduced" by a "mirage" of high destructive power.

CRÍTICA DE PELÍCULA: “Emily la estafadora” (2022)

Sinopsis: Cuando el submundo de las estafas con tarjetas de crédito se convierte inesperadamente en una salida fácil para Emily (una mujer con algunos antecedentes penales y actualmente agobiada por deudas que escapan a su control), no tiene ni idea del peligroso juego al que ha decidido entrar.

El sueño americano se hace añicos ante los ojos del espectador. Esa sería una frase simple y completa sobre todo lo que podría decir de esta película, pero necesito escribir un texto completo porque este es el tipo de proyecto que debe ser reconocido y valorado como arte dentro del universo cinematográfico (aunque tiene sus defectos ocasionales, pero estos no disminuyen en absoluto la brillantez de lo que se ha construido aquí). Decidí verla después de ver el tráiler, y confieso que realmente no esperaba encontrarme con una trama tan genuina (y reflexiva). He aquí una historia intrigante, provocadora y, por momentos, bastante triste (sobre todo para la gente de bajos recursos).

En una realidad que parece, y de hecho es, muy negativa, la protagonista de esta historia debe lidiar con las reiteradas negativas de varias empresas a contratarla como empleada registrada (debido a delitos pasados). Además, está endeudada financieramente por su préstamo estudiantil (que tuvo que solicitar para graduarse de la universidad) y comparte un pequeño apartamento con desconocidos. Trabajando sin un empleo formal (como simple proveedora de servicios para una empresa de servicios de alimentación), decide cambiar de carrera. Sin embargo, es un cambio radical que le traerá problemas inimaginables.

Emily es presentada "inocentemente" por un amigo del trabajo a un grupo de personas que cometen actos ilícitos coordinados basados en estafas con tarjetas de crédito clonadas. Una vez dentro del esquema, todo lo que sucede (desde un primer delito menor hasta estafas más complejas) distorsiona por completo su comprensión (no inicialmente, sino gradualmente) de todo lo que necesita hacer para ganar el dinero que tanto desea para cumplir con sus compromisos y tener una vida mejor. Lo que ella no esperaba que sucediera era su inmersión en un submundo de innumerables estafas que operan en la ciudad de Los Ángeles.

Junto a Youcef, un inmigrante que se forjó la vida en Estados Unidos realizando estafas de este tipo, Emily desarrolla una atracción física (y emocional) a medida que cometen nuevas estafas. Sin embargo, es Emily quien no escatima esfuerzos para progresar cada vez más en este campo, sorprendiendo a su "tutor" en un mundo donde el crimen parece ser solo una "herramienta" para luchar con valentía contra un sistema opresivo que aplasta a quienes intentan contravenir sus reglas. Cada vez más avaricia, a veces termina siendo presa fácil de otros estafadores, pero pronto comprende cómo funciona este juego.

Paralelamente a su vida como delincuente en potencia, también intenta encontrar una vía de redención por medios más convencionales (viviendo otro momento embarazoso durante una entrevista que un viejo amigo suyo le había organizado en la empresa donde trabaja... y aquí el guion critica duramente cómo algunas grandes empresas explotan a sus becarios). Pero una vez más, el sistema opresivo le recuerda su lugar en la cadena alimenticia, donde no ascenderá por el camino tradicional (lo que refuerza su elección del mundo del crimen). Un triste retrato de cómo opera este "brazo" del capitalismo en una sociedad seducida por sus promesas.

La intensidad del drama es palpable, y creo que muchos espectadores se identifican fácilmente con la realidad que Emily vive. Más allá del drama, también hay un enfoque efectivo y lleno de suspense que, aunque algo predecible, demuestra que la vida en el mundo criminal no da frutos (y es, en última instancia, una práctica engañosa que termina siendo contraproducente para quienes la eligen). Solo existe el proceso corrosivo (y persistente) de autodestrucción masiva, "disfrazado" de placeres momentáneos, que tienden a satisfacer todas nuestras necesidades más urgentes (ya sean a corto, mediano o largo plazo).

En una actuación poderosa, Aubrey Plaza nos invita a adentrarnos en una realidad implacable, interpretando a un personaje que, en su búsqueda de la libertad financiera, irónicamente termina siendo prisionera de ese deseo. Sin duda, esta es, hasta el momento, una de las mejores actuaciones de su carrera (en el terreno dramático). Junto a ella, Theo Rossi encarna al soñador inmigrante en Estados Unidos, cuyo destino es destrozado por quienes se supone que deben ayudarlo. Plaza y Rossi retratan personajes no muy alejados de la realidad de muchas personas (inmigrantes y no inmigrantes), reforzando una realidad brutal y fragmentada.

John Patton Ford debutó como director (y guionista) de largometrajes con esta película, y Emily la estafadora es una obra muy consistente que, dentro de su alcance, no idealiza en absoluto el submundo criminal, evitando los clichés narrativos que fácilmente podrían haberse utilizado. La producción es sencilla, pero suficiente para dar peso y forma a un proyecto sensible (y a la vez contundente), sin intención de ofrecer lecciones morales al público. El enfoque de este drama no es complejo ni presenta grandes giros, pero resulta efectivo en su tono realista sobre una persona común que es "seducida" por un "espejismo" de gran poder destructivo.

CRÍTICA DE FILME: “Emily, A Criminosa” (2022)

Sinopse: Quando o submundo dos golpes de cartões de créditos inesperadamente se torna uma “saída fácil” para Emily (uma mulher que tem alguns deslizes na sua ficha criminal, e que atualmente está sobrecarregada com muitas dívidas, em um nível no qual ela não consegue mais controlar), ela não faz ideia do perigoso jogo que ela decidiu jogar.

O sonho americano sendo literalmente despedaçado na frente do telespectador. Essa seria uma frase simples e contida sobre tudo o que eu poderia dizer sobre esse filme, mas eu realmente preciso escrever um texto completo porque esse é o tipo de projeto que precisa ser reconhecido e valorizado como arte dentro do universo cinematográfico (ainda que tenha as suas falhas pontuais, mas que em nada apagam o brilho do que foi construído aqui). Eu decidi assisti-lo depois que eu assisti o trailer, e confesso que eu realmente não esperava me deparar com uma trama tão genuína (e reflexiva). Eis aqui uma trama intrigante, provocativa e em certos momentos, bem triste (em especial para pessoas mais pobres).

Dentro de uma realidade que lhe parece, e de fato é, muito negativa, a protagonista desta trama precisa lidar com uma sucessiva recusa de algumas empresas em contratá-la como funcionária registrada (devido a alguns delitos cometidos no seu passado). Além disso, ela está financeiramente endividada com o seu empréstimo estudantil (que precisou fazer para poder se graduar na universidade) e divide um pequeno apartamento estranhos. Trabalhando então como alguém que não possuí nenhum vínculo empregatício (sendo uma simples prestadora de serviços numa empresa que fornece comida), ela decide mudar de ramo. No entanto, é uma mudança radical, e que vai lhe trazer problemas inimagináveis.

Emily é, “inocentemente apresentada” por um amigo do seu trabalho, a um grupo de pessoas que praticam atos ilícitos coordenados, que baseados em golpes aplicados com cartões de créditos clonados. Uma vez dentro do esquema, tudo o que vai acontecendo (desde um primeiro e pequeno delito até golpes mais complexos) deturpa todo o discernimento dela (não inicialmente, mas gradualmente) sobre tudo o que precisa ser feito para ela ganhar o tão sonhado dinheiro que deseja para conseguir honrar com os seus compromissos e ter uma vida melhor. O que ela não esperava acontecer era sua imersão dentro de uma vertente do submundo de inúmeros golpes que são aplicados na cidade de Los Angeles.

Ao lado de Youcef, um imigrante que construiu à sua vida nos Estados Unidos praticando golpes dessa mesma natureza, Emily desenvolve uma atração física (e emocional) enquanto eles vão aplicando novos golpes. No entanto, é Emily que não mede esforços para chegar cada vez mais longe dentro desse ramo, surpreendendo o seu “tutor” no mundo onde o crime parece ser apenas uma “ferramenta” para lutar bravamente contra um sistema opressor, que esmaga todas as pessoas que tentam ir de encontro ao que ele estabelece como regra. Cada vez mais gananciosa, ela acaba sendo uma presa fácil para outros golpistas em alguns momentos, mas rapidamente consegue entender como esse jogo funciona.

Em paralelo à sua vida de eventual criminosa, ela também tenta encontrar um caminho de redenção através de meios mais convencionais (vivenciando mais um momento bastante constrangedor durante uma entrevista, que uma amiga dela de longa data havia conseguido na empresa onde ela trabalha... e aqui o roteiro faz uma crítica ácida sobre como algumas grandes empresas exploram os seus estagiários), mas uma vez mais, o sistema opressor lembra qual é o lugar dela na cadeia alimentar, onde ela não ascenderá pelo viés tradicional (reforçando à sua escolha pelo mundo do crime). Um retrato triste de como esse “braço” do capitalismo opera dentro de uma sociedade seduzida pelas suas promessas.

O peso do drama aqui é latente, e eu acredito que muitos telespectadores podem facilmente se reconhecer dentro da realidade que Emily está vivendo. Além do drama, há também uma efetiva abordagem pavimentada pelo suspense de acontecimentos que, embora sejam um pouco previsíveis, evidenciam que à vida dentro do mundo criminoso não tem como trazer bons frutos (e eventualmente, é um tipo de prática sorrateira, e que acaba se voltando contra aqueles que a escolhem), existe apenas o corrosivo (e insistente) processo de autodestruição massivo, que “disfarçado” de prazeres momentâneos, que tendem a suprir todas as nossas necessidades mais urgentes (seja no curto, médio ou longo prazo).

Em uma atuação poderosa, Aubrey Plaza nos convida a mergulhar dentro de uma realidade implacável, na pele de uma personagem que na busca pela sua liberdade financeira, ironicamente acaba se tornando prisioneira desse desejo. Não há menor sombra de dúvidas de que esse é, até então, uma das melhores performances da carreira dela (em incursões dramáticas). Ao lado dela, Theo Rossi, trazendo a personificação do imigrante sonhador em terras americanas, que vê o seu destino ser esmagado por aqueles que supostamente deveriam ajudá-lo. Plaza e Rossi representam personagens não muito distantes da realidade de muitas pessoas (imigrantes ou não), reforçando uma realidade brutal e escalonada.

John Patton Ford fez sua estreia como diretor (e roteirista) de longas-metragens com este filme, e Emily, A Criminosa é um trabalho muito consistente, que dentro da sua proposta não traz nenhum tipo de “glamourização” sobre o mundo do crime, fugindo dos clichês narrativos que poderiam ter sido facilmente utilizados aqui. A produção é simples, porém, é suficiente para dar peso e forma a um projeto sensível (e ao mesmo tempo forte), sem qualquer intenção de oferecer nenhuma lição de moral ao público. A abordagem desse drama não é complexa e não traz grandes reviravoltas, mas é eficiente no seu tom realista sobre uma pessoa comum, que é “seduzida” por uma “miragem” de alto poder destrutivo.

Silence. There is no dialogue, only music accompanying the fast-paced action we see on screen. Where the hell is this place? We don't know. It's a forest. Is it a post-apocalyptic world? It seems so, but we won't know for sure. There are many things that may not have an explanation for their origin, but what matters here is what happens. The protagonist's pursuit and survival.

Azrael is the name of that beautiful blonde who seems to be very important to those armed and dangerous people, who appear to belong to some kind of sect. They are led by a strange woman who apparently communicates with strange and fearsome creatures that live deep in the forest. Who are these people? Why don't they speak? Who is Azrael? Where do she and her boyfriend come from? Do we know anything about their past? No. None of that. We have no fucking idea who Azrael is. That's beside the point. Accept that there is no answer and enjoy.

E.L. Katz is the director of the film. I have fond memories of his debut film, Cheap Thrills. It was a wild and crazy movie, with insane situations and lots of dark humor. Although he has had a long career as a screenwriter for films and series, it was with this film that he first caught my attention as a director. I recommend you look for it when you can; you'll have an uncomfortably good time. He also directed Small Crimes, an acceptable film, a crime drama that is worth watching.

With Azrael, he focuses on a genre he masters best: horror. Throughout his career, he has experience in films and series of this genre. He makes the film work, even though it doesn't answer several questions. He focuses on making us suffer in silence alongside the protagonist, who tries not to be caught and sacrificed.

Azrael es el nombre de esa bella rubia que parece ser muy importante para esa gente armada y peligrosa, que parece pertenecer a algún tipo de secta. Están liderados por una extraña mujer que aparentemente se comunica con extrañas y temibles criaturas que viven en lo profundo del bosque. ¿Quiénes son estas personas? ¿Por qué no hablan? ¿Quién es Azrael? ¿De dónde vienen ella y su novio? ¿Sabemos algo de su pasado? No. Nada de eso. No tenemos ni puta idea de quién es Azrael. Eso no viene al caso. Acepta que no hay respuesta y disfruta.

E.L. Katz es el director de la película. Guardo un grato recuerdo de su ópera prima, Cheap Thrills. Era una película salvaje y alocada, con situaciones demenciales y mucho humor negro. Aunque tiene una larga carrera como guionista de películas y series, fue con esta película con la que me llamó la atención por primera vez como director. Te recomiendo que la busques cuando puedas, pasarás un rato incómodamente bueno. También dirigió Pequeños crímenes, una película aceptable, un drama criminal que merece la pena ver.

Con Azrael se centra en un género que domina mejor: el terror. A lo largo de su carrera, tiene experiencia en películas y series de este género. Consigue que la película funcione, a pesar de que no dé respuestas a varias preguntas. Se centra en hacernos sufrir en silencio junto al protagonista, que intenta no ser atrapado y sacrificado.

Samara Weaving is the face of Azrael. My goodness! She is beautiful. It is truly delightful to see her face covered in blood, contrasting with her pale skin and those striking blue eyes. How could one not be captivated by that shot? Weaving is one of the current queens of horror. She won over many with The Babysitter, but cemented her status as queen of horror with Ready or Not. By the way, the sequel to Ready or Not will be released next year. So Samara Weaving running, screaming, suffering, and covered in blood is here to stay for a long time.

She carries the film on her shoulders. It is her charisma that keeps the film alive. Good choice. She seems to have been born to play these types of characters; there is something magical about her and these stories. Although I also recently saw another of her films from this year, which is not a horror film, and she also comes out on top. I'll tell you about that other film another time.

The rest of the cast is made up of actors of different nationalities, mostly European. There are Irish and French actors, but there are also mainly Danish actors. They are not well known to the general public, but I have seen them in other films. Vic Carmen Sonne has an important role. I saw this actress a few months ago in The Girl with the Needle, another film I haven't written a post about yet.

I liked Azrael. I watched it without stopping, which means it really hooked me. The makeup on the forest creatures is good, and the best part is the blood and the deaths. I really enjoy the gory scenes. I don't know what the budget for the film was, but I know it's not a big production, so you can see the good work that was done to make the most of the available resources.

Samara Weaving es el rostro de Azrael. ¡Dios mio! . Una belleza. Es realmente agradable ver su cara cubierta de sangre, contrastando con su piel blanca y esos tremendos ojos azules. ¿Cómo no derretirse ante ese plano? Weaving es una de las reinas actuales del terror. Conquistó a muchos con The Babysitter, pero cimentó su estatus de reina del terror con Ready or Not. Por cierto, la secuela de Ready or Not se estrenará el año que viene. Así que Samara Weaving corriendo, gritando, sufriendo y cubierta de sangre está aquí para quedarse durante mucho tiempo.

Lleva la película sobre sus hombros. Es su carisma lo que mantiene viva la película. Buena elección. Parece haber nacido para interpretar este tipo de personajes; hay algo mágico en ella y estas historias. Aunque hace poco también vi otra de sus películas de este año, que no es de terror, y también sale airosa. De esa otra película les hablaré en otra ocasión.

El resto del reparto está formado por actores de diferentes nacionalidades, la mayoría europeos. Hay actores irlandeses y franceses, pero también hay sobre todo actores daneses. No son muy conocidos para el gran público, pero los he visto en otras películas. Vic Carmen Sonne tiene un papel importante. Vi a esta actriz hace unos meses en La Chica de la Aguja, otra película de la que aún no he escrito un post.

Me gustó Azrael. La vi sin pausa, lo que significa que me enganchó de verdad. El maquillaje de las criaturas del bosque está bueno, y lo mejor es la sangre y las muertes. Disfruto mucho con las escenas sangrientas. No sé cuál fue el presupuesto de la película, pero sé que no es una gran producción, así que se nota el buen trabajo que se hizo para aprovechar al máximo los recursos disponibles.

One Piece Live Action (2023) & A Symbol of Criticism

“What’s One Piece?” asked my mom after watching some youtube videos on the latest country’s craze on One Piece.

In Indonesia, some people raise the One Piece Flag, that black flag with skull and straw hat on it. This pirate emblem has become some type of symbol to protest the government. Although I failed to see how it could relate to the resistance, even my mom was curious enough about it.

Rather than watching the anime, I proposed to my mom that we watch the Netflix adaption One Piece (2023) . While I watched parts of it a long time ago, I was up to refresh the story of Monkey D Luffy and his ambition to become the King of The Pirates and trying to see why the symbolism came to be and why a lot of young people in the country display the One Piece flag.

The Netflix adaptation gives quite a bit of background on why Luffy became who he is. It serves well as an introduction especially for those who never follow this famous franchise. For my mom who eventually watched the series, she eventually learned about some of the main characters in the series.

Even for me, it was the first time watching the live action. To me, Luffy itself is a bit of a complex character. You know, at first I thought he was just a kid with a harsh life and without a notable background but later in the series, you can see his family lineage that he’s connected through notable admirals like Garp. However, it seems like despite such lineage, he even went against his grandfather who wanted him to work for the marine and has this ultimate goal to find that One Piece.

As of now, that One Piece hasn’t been found yet and from what I know, even the story is on-going and who knows if One Piece is not really a thing but merely symbolic.

The netflix adaption gives me the impression it was made with quite a bit of a high budget. The graphic and visual were aesthetically pleasing. For some reason, it was the colors that were striking. But to my mom and I, we cared more about the story and finding out why it became a symbol of critique in the country.

When we unveiled layers of it, there were a couple intriguing to us. There’s this idea of generalization by the marine that all pirates must be terminated but that’s not the whole truth. There are pirates that can be considered “good” even though the morality of the pirates can be something that is a little gray. From what I know, Luffy works within some code of conduct. He cares about his crew, he has this compass within him that actually guides his action. Even to me, the show was written in an interesting way. By that I mean, the character is not the typical hero that we tend to get in series/animation. There’s inherent flaws about it and the struggles to be in places where bad pirates are the norm.

But to connect it to the whole ruckus in the country, some people believed that the plot is similar to what’s been happening in the country.

Perhaps there's a connection between the two but perhaps not. The One Piece universe is too big and most importantly, I applaud the writer for writing such a masterpiece. If you haven't watched the live action, I definitely suggest that you should!
